Why does this subforum still exist? The COVID hysteria and panic has been over for months now. It's barely even relevant, let alone deserving of its own dedicated subforum. It's time to retire this subforum and to move on from the insane fear-mongering and obsession over a virus with a 99.8% survival rate. Those still clinging to their COVID religion need to get on with their lives already.
~ Covid-19 doom will likely go away the same time as Co2 climate catastrophe floats away with the rising tide. The revelation will be epic ...
It will exist so long as the mask remains a virtue signal of loyal, eager and blind subservience to authority.
as long as the anti-vaxxers still exist, it will exist I am sure i think keeping all covid related content over here is a good idea
When you stop posting about it. The various sub-forums don't exist based of any perceived importance or relevance of an issue, they exist for topics lots of people want to discuss so that those posts don't swamp the generic topic forums.
I still wear a mask when in close contact with strangers for any significant period of time because it is flu/RSV season, but whatever. That it offends conservatives is just icing on the cake.
I don’t even know what ‘COVID religion’ refers to. SARS-CoV-2 is still very relevant. The survival rate is different for different age groups. There are distinct groups that are more vulnerable to serious illness and death. It’s easy to ignore those who are still dying from covid — they are overwhelmingly poor, immunocompromised, marginalized, and over the age of 65. In the US, people over 65 make up 16% of the population. There are still many obvious things related to Covid that are worthy of discussion. Biden might have told the country the Pandemic is over but unfortunately nobody told the virus. The virus is still reproducing and mutating and nobody can predict how it’s going to mutate. It’s not time to start to ignore it, better to refocus to risk management. Covid-19 still must be a concern to the US government or they wouldn’t be demanding proof of negative tests from people flying from China, Hong Kong or Macau. As well, non-U.S. citizen, non-U.S. immigrants must show proof of being fully vaccinated with the primary series of an accepted COVID-19 vaccine before they board their flights to the United States. The last few years have brought forth many problems related to covid-19 — severe economic problems, increase in obesity, increase in alcohol and substance abuse, suicide, delayed medical care, postponed checkups and screening for cancer, diabetes control, blood pressure and so forth. There is also the development of long-covid and presently 7.5 percent of the US population has symptoms of long covid which is not well understood and can be debilitating and long lasting. This will continue as long as SARS-CoV-2 is infecting people. SARS-CoV-2 and the many variants are unlikely to disappear. It is predicted that there will be a transition from pandemic to an endemic situation at some point. Endemic means a constant presence of a disease within a given population. Influenza, HIV, malaria, and syphilis are all examples of endemic diseases. Even with an endemic, there has to be awareness of a disease and what to do to avoid getting ill. There will still need to be a focus on damaged being caused by the virus and preventing spread. Precautions will still need to occur. Scientists have no way to predict future virulence of new strains. Scientists are able to predict flu strains and prepare vaccines in advance. The world will always need a strategy ready related to future variants. SARS-CoV-2 is not going disappear soon and nor are the viruses economic and health effects. Covid is not a religion. Not appreciating the impact covid will still have for years on health and economy is ridiculously shortsighted.
A million people died from covid. Your comment about "loyal, eager and blind subservience to authority" is an affront to them to the pain they experienced. You might try a thoughtful and accurate assessment of the impact of masks.
~ I may begin wearing a Halloween mask — the plastic protects and offends at the same time ! Jab Junkies United
The only people still talking about covid are the ones complaining about people being worried about covid, or claiming they know 40 people to died because they got vaccinated.
Why are folks offended by the Covid sub-forum? Do issues of science and health offend them? Trigger them? Unbelievable. I am currently recovering from Covid, which I unfortunately gave to my wife. My first time catching it, I thought I was immune. Took maybe 50 tests and never went positive, until 3 weeks ago. Needing Paxlovid to keep me out of the hospital. I am grateful such antivirals exist. I know LOTS of people who got covid and several who died from it. NOBODY got sick from the vaccine. So take your ignorant, Flat-Earth, Holocaust Denial, 9-11 Truther conspiracy theory bullshit and shove it.
When would driving or walking alone involve me being "in close contact with strangers for any significant period of time"? No I don't work on the subway or drive a bus.
Why are you obsessed with other people's obsessions. Are you paying the server bills or something? Covid isn't over until my student loans get adjusted as far as I am concerned.
There is already a dedicated healthcare subforum. There is simply no need for an entire subforum dedicated to one virus. The world doesn't revolve around you and your health issues. What's next? Should we have a thread dedicated entirely to cancer? Or heart disease?
Don't like my thread? Ignore it. But as long as you're here, you might as well try to justify the continued existence of this subforum. But I know you can't, which is why you're openly begging the mods to censor me.
Significant health issues that affect the entire planet in such a short amount of time, are an appropriate topic for a sub-forum. Dont like it? Ignore it. This sub-forum aint going anywhere!!!
It's a simple question that nobody can answer. Why does COVID deserve its own subforum when we already have a healthcare subforum? Are we going to make subforums for every disease and health problem in existence or just COVID? Perhaps there was a reason to have such a forum when the entire world was obsessing over it nonstop, but that time has clearly passed. The vast majority of people have moved on completely from COVID hysteria. How am I wrong?
Why would anyone be offended by someone wearing a cloth or surgical mask or an N95 or N100 respirator?
It's is NEVER going away.. if not covid then some other dire medically malady will rise to continue the tyranny. Of those that died, how many died of covid and how many died of medical malpractice? There are big monetary incentives to see deaths by covid. Compare Indonesian death from covid vs. the UK
Some folks are offended by seeing two men holding hands, others are offended by seeing people wear a mask.
