Semites do exist, but its based on a lie.

Shem, son of Noah, is a fake story book character.

so-called Semites do exist, they do have language commonality, but they are not descended from the comic book character known as "Shem".

The definition of race is a tough one. If it simply meant color of the skin then it would be incomplete. There are many other features that make up the classes of race. It's all just a joke anyway, we are mostly alike. As for the spread of humanity through the region, pick up a great book on genetic anthropology called "The Seven Daughters of Eve".

    Fascinating stuff.

Semites are a language group not an ethnicity.. They speak Semitic languages like Arabic, Syriac, Hebrew, Aramaic or Amharic.

As for Shem.. that's a fiction borrowed from the mythos of Sumer.

for reasons of convenience and expediency, we still use the innacurate term "Semite".

someday they'll come up with a better term, as Shem never existed.

A recent Bayesian analysis of alternative Semitic histories supports the former possibility and identifies an origin of Semitic languages in the Levant around 3,750 BC with a single introduction from southern Arabia into Africa around 800 BC

A recent Bayesian analysis of alternative Semitic histories supports the former possibility and identifies an origin of Semitic languages in the Levant around 3,750 BC with a single introduction from southern Arabia into Africa around 800 BC.[12]

In one interpretation, Proto-Semitic itself is assumed to have reached the Arabian Peninsula by approximately the 4th millennium BC, from which Semitic daughter languages continued to spread outwards. When written records began in the late 4th millennium BC, the Semitic-speaking Akkadians (Assyrians/Babylonians) were entering Mesopotamia from the deserts to the west, and were probably already present in places such as Ebla in Syria. Akkadian personal names began appearing in written record in Mesopotamia from the late 29th Century BC

By the late 3rd millennium BC, East Semitic languages, such as Akkadian and Eblaite, were dominant in Mesopotamia and north east Syria, while West Semitic languages, such as Amorite, Canaanite and Ugaritic, were probably spoken from Syria to the Arabian Peninsula, although Old South Arabian is considered by most people to be South Semitic despite the sparsity of data. The Akkadian language of Akkad, Assyria and Babylonia had become the dominant literary language of the Fertile Crescent, using the cuneiform script that was adapted from the Sumerians.

The Middle Assyrian Empire, which originated in the 14th century BC, facilitated the use of Akkadian as a 'lingua franca' in many regions outside its homeland. The related, but more sparsely attested, Eblaite disappeared with the city, and Amorite is attested only from proper names in Mesopotamian records

There are serious, academic and very boring books on the development of the Semitic languages if you are interested, The script also changed over time and they borrowed many words from one another.

In Arabia they are pretty white except along the coast where they have intermarried with people from East Africa and the Indus Valley.

Not really.. They tend to be very light skinned with dark hair and eyes unless they have spent a lot of time in the sun..

There was a time in the US that Italians, Greeks and Jews were not considered "white people"... Race is just a very "iffy" thing.

You can read wiki for yourself.. I read some very tedious studies several years ago ... and I am not going back there..

What might interest you it that Israel pretty much claims every scrap they find as being Hebrew when its very hard to tell because its more likely that its proto-semitic..

Samuel Noah Kramer studied and translated for 50 years.. You know, he wrote History Begins at Sumer.

Do you live in the Arab world?

Then why bother to play? It depends if its northern, southern ... east or west and the time period.
