Simple: Covid 19 will make physically in person voting difficult so more people want to mail in their votes. The Republicans know that the more people who vote the more likely they are to lose.....so they want to stop voting as much as they can in any way they can..

No it's a dodge you said

    I ask again

How much does it take to change the outcome of a close election?

Could I summarize your best argument for limiting voter access as, "one fraudulent vote could change the outcome of a tied election?"

But thousands of people that wouldn't get to vote prob will...

It genuinely boggles the mind that they dream up fantasies, on the spot, and actually expect them to be taken seriously.

For the fourth time now why don't you answer my question?

How much does it take to change the outcome of a close election?

Can I summarize your argument that you don't care about voter fraud and the integrity of our elections?

    What fantasy?

"In 2016 Florida’s Division of Elections offered this guidance: “Any person can collect and return other voters’ voted absentee ballots to the Supervisor of Elections. No limit exists.” A small stipulation: There’s a “criminal offense for pecuniary or other beneficial exchange,” meaning apparently that harvesters must volunteer.

In 2017 the Palm Beach Post reported that two local candidates “took advantage of gaping holes in Florida’s vote-by-mail laws to pressure and cajole voters in their living rooms.” In canvassed neighborhoods, “where nearly every resident voted absentee,” reporters found a woman who said she felt “forced” to vote, as well as a blind Creole-speaking man who said the candidate filled out his ballot.

A day before Pennsylvania’s June 2 primary, Governor Tom Wolf signed an order extending the ballot deadline in six counties. As long as mail votes were postmarked by Election Day, they could arrive on June 9 and be counted. What followed did not inspire confidence. Nine days after the election, Philadelphia said it had 42,255 ballots untallied. Mr. Trump won the state in 2016 by 44,292 votes.

On Thursday Mr. Wolf signed a bill to perform an autopsy of the primary, which his office said “will help identify any necessary changes to the Pennsylvania Election Code before the general election.” Are they paying attention next door in Ohio? Ballots there can be counted if they arrive 10 days late, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

Even if the voter gets to the mailbox in time, there’s a risk of tardiness. In 2018 the U.S. Postal Service delivered 95.6% of election and political mail on schedule, according to an audit by the inspector general. The score was 86.6% for a processing facility in Wisconsin, 79.4% for one in Ohio, and 75.7% for one in Florida. Last month in Butler County, Ohio, some 300 mail ballots were delivered 13 days after the election, thanks to an “unintentional missort.”

Ballot access is important, but so is ballot integrity. In exchange for the convenience, mail votes should have to be postmarked several days in advance of the election. Democrats ought to act in their own self-interest: If they really fear that Donald Trump will try to delegitimize November’s result, why not deny him material by buttoning things up now?

    Trump votes by mail...

Republicans loved voting by mail until the day they realised seniors weren't going to vote for Trump this time.

In the real world, on the laughable assumption this has to do with reality, you are going to have to substantiate your claim in open court.

Your guys keep trying dumb sh*t and getting laughed out of court.

He votes absentee not in a mass vote by mail scheme, learn the difference and we have enough problems with the limited absentee voting. I note you cannot refute anything I posted and because of that choose to ignore it. My points stand as posted.

Someone has to stand before a judge and convince him.

Good luck, you're gonna need it.

someone like the ACLU will take you to court saying you're full of crap..

then you get to tell the judge why this is needed, or the judge will be somewhat unkind in his remarks or his decision.

Your best argument is "a tie election only takes one vote to switch the outcome of the election."

    It is a **** argument.

Trump is far behind Biden and the Republicans will probably get destroyed in the upcoming election. Without a vaccine things are going to be rough and Trump is in very big trouble. The only way they have is that Republicans don't social distance as much as Democrats. So more Republicans will go out to vote than Democrats. Republicans will block mail voting as much as they can because this will be mostly used by Democats to vote.

This is a very good question you ask...

Voting by mail is a common election tool in many countries that works very well at them. Of course this needs a proper organization and control system too ... and the question is seriously given, if this exists in the USA as it exists in these other countries.

As the oldest democracy ... ancient Greeks aside ... the United States has completely failed to verify identity of their people really since the beginning of its history. Reasons are many, but in core a dispute between federal rights and law and those of the 50 single states...
In essence, it is about e.g. in Europe every citizen must have a national identity card. There is no such thing in the USA, just a State ID card, driver's license and social security ID.

Whatever the case ... proper identification is essential for an electoral register of all eligible citizens per constituency!
Every citizen entitled to vote will receive a letter from the countries in the EU, where he / she will also apply for absentee voting to the responsible municipality for the electoral register. Means, everone gets told where he has to give its vote ... and any other voting center is forbidden too.
On the day of the election, you have to legitimize yourself with your ID card before you cast your vote at the ballot box (or electronic way), and a list is shown of who came. It is therefore not possible to vote twice. The office also noted who requested postal voting and the envelopes sent are also ticked here AND UNOPENED on the basis of a list and then kept securely under lock and key. On the day of the election, the collected envelopes are opened and then another group is given the ballot paper for evaluation without reference to the person.

Election fraud? Possible, but very difficult and must already have criminal intent and planning, because whoever evaluates the ballot papers, etc. will only be known on election day.

If the Americans do it as thoroughly as the Europeans in the election, the electoral fraud itself is very unlikely (technical problems or human error in counting etc. aside, which will always be everywhere). All you need is the State ID Card as duty to have as citizen to be able to vote in your state and constituency + letter send before where in which election center someone has to give his vote ... and the existing register will then be used to check who voted and who did not ... and this prevents double or multiple votes. The same then for the postal vote as described above.

The only disadvantage is that it records whether someone has voted or not. But since in most countries it is a voluntary thing to vote or not ... so what? Who cares?

The Social Security number gets used a lot as a national ID.

We could improve our voting systems, in theory, at any time. It's easy.

We don't do it because cheating is what keeps the Republican party alive.

So they keep coming up with BS ideas, dozens of them every year, to cheat.

One of the best judges in the country is Judge Posner, he's also Republican, and here's what he had to say:

“There is only one motivation for imposing burdens on voting that are ostensibly designed to discourage voter-impersonation fraud,” he writes, “and that is to discourage voting by persons likely to vote against the party responsible for imposing the burdens.” More specifically, he observes, photo ID laws are “highly correlated with a state’s having a Republican governor and Republican control of the legislature and appear to be aimed at limiting voting by minorities, particularly blacks.”

They were trying to disenfranchise 300,000 by pretending it would prevent a 1,000 cases of voter fraud.

I'm definitely not a friend of the Republicans and certainly not of Trump ... see my signature ;-)

Only on the other hand, as is well known, Democrats and Republicans constantly blame each other for election fraud and voter fraud etc. ... but if you really want to eliminate this mess and have enough of the mutual accusations, you should start looking for sensible solutions. And the simplest solution ... including postal voting ... are these measures:

    1.
In each electoral district, there must also be a register of all persons entitled to vote with their name, address and date of birth based on the data from the registration office. Of course, this must always be kept up to date ... means that if someone dies or moves away, the person is deleted from the register, another person is of legal age and is allowed to vote, this person is included in the register.

    2.
On the basis of this register, the electoral office or whatever it says on your behalf, determines who has to cast his vote based on his address in which election center. Every voter receives a letter about it ... and an application if the person wants to make a postal vote, which this person must then send back. At a time "X" before the election, these postal ballot papers will then be sent and must be returned to the electoral office by the deadline "Y" before the election day, with details of the sender, etc. on the envelope. These returns will be stored and locked until election day.

    3.
On election day, each electoral center receives a list of all voters who have been asked to vote only there. Every voter has to register with whatever falsifiable ID document / card, his / her name is ticked off the list and then he / she can vote.
In the case of postal voting similar ... all persons who had requested postal voting in the electoral district are also on a list and on the day of the election is checked off on the basis of the envelopes on the list before the given votes are then opened and by another group (because of Data protection) can be evaluated.

Advantage: Double or multiple votes are not possible! Everyone must and can only vote where he / she was allocated and nowhere else. And based on the lists, if checked = has voted, no one else can vote under false identity.

Disadvantage: The whole thing is a bit more complex to organize and may also be more expensive because of the mailing etc.
And from the lists, it could be determined which people who were eligible to vote and who did not vote ... but if that is really a problem, it is only ridiculous ... because you always have the democratic right to abstain , eh?

It's a minority party. In 2012 the party released a report saying they had to open up, be more inclusive.

    Instead, they doubled down.

Look at the reference section of the re-authorisation of the CRA, it's several hundred pages of attempts to mess with elections.

We used to force countries to have independent election authorities, like the Brit Boundaries Commission.

That would be a good place to start.

Every election is a state election, so to force the states to accept this, you'll need them to approve a constitutional amendment.

Do you have anything I could respond to?

    I seriously doubt it.

Was my statement about the 2012 report wrong? How about the documentation in the re-authorisation?
