Again...you keep assuming I am some U.S. Military Cheerleader...I am not.

I am just talking about REALITIES.

It is possible for ANYONE at ANYTIME to perpetrate a terrorist act such as what happened in Boston.

It is simply not possible to stop all who might wish to do something like that.

The issue we were discussing was how right at this moment in history Reagan's STAR WARS or SDI is becoming a REALITY!

To add to this the Navy's install of the Free Electron Laser will be a counter to any Chinese Ship Killer Missile which the Chinese Communist Party has gone way out of the way to sing the praises for.

Now I know a few Officers in the PLA and PLN....Peoples Liberation Army and Navy and talked with them when they visited Norfolk and some other California bases I will not discuss.

THEY ABSOLUTELY GET FREAKED OUT....when the Chinese Communist Party get's their CCP Military Spokesman to say something STUPID and this is usually directed at some new ability or weapon that would be used to destroy American Carriers or Aircraft or Tanks.

These Officers understand that it would be THEY who would have to be doing the DYING and one told me that he was absolutely P!$$&# OFF that the Communist Party thought it would be a good idea to tell the U.S. Navy that they had something that could sink a Carrier!

They said..."Why would we want the U.S. Navy to know about a weapon that we have so that they can develop a counter measure for it?"

The FEL or Free Electron Laser will be able to destroy any number of such Chinese Carrier Killers at the speed of light. Even right now the U.S. Navy has the new design SM-3 ABM/ASAT that destroyed a Hydrazine Tank...and JUST THE TANK WAS TARGETED AND DESTROYED...that was part of a U.S. Satellite that was in a decaying orbit so they used this target traveling at a velocity between 16,500 and 18,000 Miles Per hour AT ORBITAL DISTANCE to demonstrate the capabilities of the New Designed U.S. Antimissile Anti Satellite weapon.

So between these two the Chinese don't have a chance of sinking a Carrier this way.

Look it up...the facts are correct.

The Pershing II was deployed in West Germany and could strike with pinpoint accuracy any target within 1,100 miles.

The proximity of this Solid Fuel High Velocity Missile as well as it being designed for Deep Earth or Hardened Silo Penetration it could not only destroy mobile SS-20's in less than 6 minutes once the U.S. Satellite gave them real time data but could strike Hardened Bunkers in Moscow where would be Command and Control.

The Soviets fear these missiles more than any other and all have been removed by treaty as well as a much greater number of SS-20 Mobile Missiles as even though the Soviets and then Russian had a 4 to 1 advantage in such missiles the Pershing II's ability to so quickly and accurately destroy targets was a chance that Russia could not take.

Yes as long as the entire Soviet nuclear force was within range, and the Soviet leadership did not think Western forces would not target their command bunker :eyepopping:

That is obvious but remember the Soviets had a very real and active plan to move 10 divisions plus through Afghanistan on through Iraq and Iran and capture the oil fields.

As well the Soviets wanted a Warm Weather Naval base in Kuwait and Iran.
Then they would have invaded Western Europe.
If it was not for a U.S. European Theater Nuclear Deterrent they would have.

 They sat and watched the debacle of Vietnam and decided that it was only a matter of time before the capitalist empire destroyed itself without them.

If carrier battle groups are forced to spend time on force protection they are not involved in force projection.

USN. Ticonderoga Class Cruisers will all have FEL's installed on them. U.S. Carrier groups usually have 2 Cruisers per group.

The Navy is going to shrink. The pressure to deal with a declining budget will be too great. The money is needed for redistribution to the dependent class.

When the entire FEL...Free Electron Laser system is in place with the entire Targeting Satellite Network...the United States will posses not only a Direct Energy Weapon System capable of vaporizing any incoming Ballistic Missiles be they Nuclear or Not...as well will be able to destroy all incoming anti-ship missiles and destroy any and all attacking enemy aircraft...but they will be able to use the FEL along with the Satellite Network to target and vaporize any Land Based Targets whether they are Buildings, Tanks, Artillery, Troops or anything else.

Discover Magazine reported that using a Nuclear Reactor to power the FEL the Laser is capable of VAPORIZING A 5 CENTIMETER IN DIAMETER HOLE THROUGH 1000 FEET OF SOLID STEEL.

Given this level of power and speed to target...186,282 miles per second...along with networked Supercomputers for Targeting and Acquisition and a Network of Satellites for over the Horizon Targeting...the FEL will be able to take the place of a large number of now obsolete U.S. Weapon Systems.

The FEL very well could make it impossible for another country to fire Nuclear Missiles at the United States and it's Allies and have those missiles make it to target.

As long as naturalized Chinese American citizens work in the defense industry in R&D it is only a matter of time before the People's Liberation Army acquires this technology. China has America's number. Sad, but true.

China is a pain in the ass as far as sneaking in to secret defense contractors r&d programs.

Still China is way behind either technologically or militarily.

Vice Admiral Scott Swift, commander of the Japan-based US 7th Fleet stated yesterday that the U.S. Navy's 7th Fleet was larger and more powerful that the entire Chinese Navy.

    That is a fact.

Isn't the US military entirely dependent upon satellites whose vulnerability China has publicly demonstrated ?

    You are correct...to a point.

The U.S. can simply use Laser Guided Munitions if necessary.

    She was great in Barbarella.

No seriously, I do too. When I was growing up she was somebody I admired even though my politics wasn't fully formed at that time. It was her intellectual gravitas that won me over.
