Why do gun control advocates constantly prattle about "high capacity magazines"

Please allow me to clarify what is meant by:
Over 50 years ago when I was a paratrooper in the US Army we were issued 20 round magazines rather than the higher capacity 30 round or 40 round magazines.
The reason was because the longer 30 rd. and 40 rd. magazines were too long to effectively fire from the prone position (lying on your stomach)

That, like many things, has changed in 50 years but 30 rd. and 40 rd. magazines are still too long for overall combat situations.

After you knock out that 70, clean up the last 30 and then we can talk.

Wait, with them gone this is pointless.

I was wondering when you were going to realize that.

Wait do you think that I'm going to go all Judge Dredd on their asses? Like *You have been littering, time to pay the ultimate price*?

    YOU discussed rate of fire.
All semi-automatics have the same rate of fire.
So, your argument, whatever it is, applies to all of them or none of them.
    Opinion, not fact.
    Good of you to admit.

You can’t even answer a simple question if the rate of fire is the same as rounds per minute. And you want to discuss guns with me? Have you ever fired a gun before?

So the studies the experts did don’t count as fact?

We can then conclude that any attempts to change the legality of weapons or their parts has no bearing on their use by criminals. Once we solve the criminal problem we don’t have any gun issues.

The obvious answer? Just arrest that 70%. That's the only way to make sure criminals don't have access to firearms.

How about arrest all the criminals and the rest of us can own whatever legal toys we want? Everyone else who passes the checks at the gun store can have theirs.

Why? Since when did it matter if you get caught? A criminal is a criminal. Passing a check at the gun store isn't enough! We need to deal with what, a little over 200 million people first? We need to make sure those criminals are in jail first. Unless you want to explain to a judge why letting criminals own guns is a good thing. How many innocent victims do you want to suffer because they owned a gun?

Its irrelevant - all semi-autos have the same rate of fire.
It does not matter how many times you repeat an opinion, it remains an opinion.

Only convicted felons, fugitives from justice, and those under indictment lose their right to keep and bear arms.

passing a background check is enough for purchasing from a retailer.
How many innocent victims do you want to suffer because they could not protect themselves from the people who don’t care about laws?

    And....?

The answer is I agree. We need to make sure only 30% of Americans have access to firearms. I completely agree.

Yeah but so what? A criminal who doesn’t get caught won’t care about following the law either. Why not make sure the criminal who doesn’t get caught doesn’t have access to a firearm as well?

Good point. Gun laws only affect law abiding citizens that are not a threat. Gang bangers always manage to get any banned item they want.

Sadly, the Constitution doesn't say anything about percentages. And 70% of all Americans are not criminals, so JUST handle the criminals.

Even if your supposition that 70% of the people have committed crimes that would cause them to lose their right to keep and bear arms -- a claim you can only support with opinion, not fact - is true, its irrelevant, as only those --convicted-- actually lose their rights.

    K. Whatever you need to tell yourself to fall asleep at night. Let me know when you trust the opinion of a meteorologist to tell you the forecast. Then we can talk.

Look at you, avoiding the point.

    You said:
How do you know they are a criminal?

The constitution doesn’t have to, we just need to keep guns out of law hating criminals, like 70% of Americans.I already cited it in this thread. It’s an actual statistic.

And next think you’re going to say is it’s raining donuts. Let me know once you trust a meteorologists opinion.

Why does that matter? I can simply fall back on if we know so many of them are likely to be criminals then we should limit the sale of guns as much as possible to limit the law breaking capabilities of criminals.

    You said:
To do that, you have to know if they are a criminal or not.
    So.... how do you know?

Nothing here changes the fat your "70%" claim is opinion, not fact.
