SO this makes any person with COMMON SENSE be all for Obama's tax plan, the wealthy CAN AFFORD to pay more, their lifestyle WON'T BE HURT by paying more, they aren't creating jobs anyways, trickle down is a FAIRY TALE.

Social Security is a good example of government doing a good job. For decades it's been in the red and just yesterday I heard this on the news

New retirees receiving less in Social Security than they paid in, marking historic shift

People retiring today are part of the first generation of workers who have paid more in Social Security taxes during their careers than they will receive in benefits after they retire. It's a historic shift that will only get worse for future retirees, ... leaving relatively fewer workers behind to pay into the system.

Seems to me it's working just fine. What "will" or "won't" happen is speculation and nothing more. It's good till something like 2030. I think we have time to prepare for any speculative predictions before then.

When you tax the rich your putting a lot of dollars that wouldn't be spent back into the economy, thus the equivalent of printing dollars.

How is it working fine if your getting out less than you put in? That's what they say the new retirees will get. You could put your money in the bank drawing 1% interest and get more than the new retirees will get. If you die before retiring or a few years after, your family can draw it out of the bank. If it's all in Social Security, your family doesn't get a dime. It stops when you die.

Bottom line is I don't see people rioting in the streets because their SSI is in jeopardy. Right wingers are generally the only ones whining about it. I'd say you might want to question the motives of the people complaining about it.

Name me one government program that works sufficiently. The Post Office is broke and they are talking of all kinds of cuts in it. Am-track is always in the hole. As another poster said, go to any government agency and see how well it's run. You can wait for hours to get a new title, sign up for Social Security, wait for months for a passport.

They pass stupid laws that has only got this country in economic trouble. Pass legislation that never fixes the problem, only adds to it. That's not to say government doesn't have a place, it's only that it needs to be limited to serve and protect the people and they have done a poor job of that.

The post office works GREAT, Social Security is off the charts GREAT! And the best thing about those places, the workers get paid good and the CEOs make about $200,000 per year, that's how it should be!

You'll feel bad when the PO is gone and you'll be paying FedEx $3 to mail an envelope across town.

In all fairness to the PO, the Post Office is only broke because of Congressional requirements. They are run fairly well, actually. Fedex and UPS subcontracts to them because of how well run they are.

Bingo, with those tax cuts, the rich DON'T INVEST to create jobs, they sit on that money and it benefits nobody else.

The post office is broke BECAUSE REPUBLICANS instituted requirements that it bank 27 years of retirement cash ahead of time. What business is required to do that? Right wingers would have a fit if liberals proposed that same criteria be imposed on "their" businesses. Get real dude.

The workers get paid to good, that's why the Post office is so much trouble.

The trouble with Liberals, is your not using your head. I know you love government for all the free stuff it gives you. You love it because it pays better than business and has much better benefits. But what you don't understand is it's all paid for by taxes and government doesn't take in enough taxes to pay for everything you want. Even if we taxed the rich more, there wouldn't be nearly enough to pay their bills, wages and benefits. Government has screwed up and got rid of many of our businesses. There isn't enough left to help pay government's bills. Adding more government only makes matters worse. Why is that soooo hard to understand?

Bingo, they didd that just to say..."look how the govt is failing"...Republicans TRY PURPOSELY to hurt govt. to prove their point against it. Right now they are turning sentiment against the Post Office in order to benefit their buddies who own FedEx, in the end the consumer will be hurt.

    Tax Credits for Illegal Immigrants

    Posted on May 11, 2012

Q: Does the IRS pay billions in tax refunds to workers who are in the U.S. illegally?

A: Yes. The Treasury Department’s Inspector General determined that $4.2 billion was paid in 2010, up from less than $1 billion in 2005. Leading Democrats are resisting a bill that would stop future payments.

I don't get anything FREE from the govt. I do work for the govt, so why shouldn't I FIGHT to keep my BETTER PAY and BETTER BENEFITS coming, just like CEOs and Wall Street fight to over turn it? We're both fighting for OUR OWN best interests....I AM using my head, what don't you get? So in your worl, I'd GIVE IN, vote Republican, have my job privatized and my salary cut 30% without putting up a fight? F that!

By your logic the government should tax 100% of income. If taxing is good for the economy then they should tax it all, including yours and mine.

You should fight to keep them. But don't get pissed if they say we aren't taking in enough money to pay your wages and benefits so we either have to cut them or lay off.

The government should stay out of things that do not effect the general public. Nothing should be illegal as long as it only effects consenting adults.

I didn't work for the city, but my company was contracted by the city to do a service for them. I got much of the pay and benefits city workers got. But as the city got less taxes, the next time the contract came around, they cut the amount the city would pay my company. My company in turn cut white collar worker's pay $5,000.00 a year. Upper management got a $15,000.00 a year cut. They couldn't cut our wages as we were union and still had a contract in force. But what they did was freeze our defined pension plan and go to a 401-K plan. When our contract was up, they cut our sick pay we could accumulate and get paid for on retiring, from 150 days, to 40. Now it seems like the company may have to turn our defined pension plan over to the PBGC, A government agency that takes over broke pensions when the company can no longer pay for it. This because the city is not taking in more taxes. Do you think the city wants to add more government programs that they want to pay for?

Well if you work for the Federal government, they can just print more money. City, counties and states can't do that.

The government has to grow as the economy grows, as the population grows, and as the territory expands. That's unavoidable.

Everybody seems to understand this in regards to the military. It works basically the same way for all the other functions of government (believe it or not, they exist).
