And secondly, what would you call my relation to Sweden if I moved to the USA? what would you call my usa-born childrens' relation to sweden? What would you call that, if not "roots"?

Actually skin color more and more DOES exist on a spectrum. Multi-racial individuals are greatly increasing.

If you moved to the US the relation is apparent. Where did your ancestors 400 years ago come from? Does every Swedish-identified person have ancestors going back 400+ years that all were originally from Sweden? I think not.

Besides, why does it matter, and who cares, what plot of dirt someone came from. You are who you chose to be, and that's all that matters.

Plus, you're no more qualified to speak of how things are in America than we are to speak of things in Sweden. In fact, life is even quite different depending where you're from in the US. Living in San Diego is quite different than living in Chicago, for example. This is probably true even for Sweden, even though it is tiny in comparison.

I'm denying that it's as objective as you imply. I have roots in both Europe and Africa. The difference is scale.

It's arbitrary...what I would call it is probably different from what you would call it. I know third generation Americans who do not identify at all with their European ancestors. I definitely don't identify with mine at all. Immigrants tend to assimilate here very quickly.

I don't personally consider Europe to be my "roots". I have almost nothing in common with those people. The last person in my family to be born there was centuries ago.

Sweden was homogenous until 50 years ago. The USA has had a racially diverse population for all its history, and just ended legal racism about 50 years ago. Currently, there are the following minority persons in our government cabinet: Ardalan Shekarabi - public administration, Aida Hadzialic -secondary school, Ibrahim Baylan - Energy, Mehmet Kaplan - Housing, Alice Bah Kunke - Culture.
