Correct. Governments and their paperwork sidekicks, Bureaucracies, are not very efficient but that happens in corporations too. The reason a corporation has a shot at being more efficient that government is because the CEO has a couple tools available to them that Free societies do not.

I hope you agree that our military should not go to private industry.

What the public should do is demand they receive a copy of the fee schedule of who they are insured with because this determines what the real game is all about. Of course, the health insurance companies will never allow that to happen.

Some states are better than others. But they sure gave me access to go across the country. Thank you federal government for having roads good enough so I could do that.

I'm proving Steven Horwitz’s First Law of Political Economy: "No one hates capitalism more than capitalists
Businesses want the Government to intervene to make them "safe" and insulate them from their competitors. Juan Trippe insisted for decades that the U.S. should make his company, Pan Am, the "Chosen Instrument", a flag carrier, seeing as how most countries had flag carriers where we did not.

The CEO of G.E. and President Obama's former Jobs Czar said this to all of us.

Understand, even if they weren't the one who originally proposed a regulation, so long as the talks are going on, they'll try to influence its writing in such a way so as to help them.

Regulatory Capture. I get the distinct feeling most leftists aren't aware this occurs.

My main point is that the Federal government will not efficiently run centralized healthcare. Sure in the 1950s we developed a great freeway system. My oldest brother was born in the 1940s and my parents did not have health insurance at all. My mom stayed in the hospital for two weeks for the birth. That was standard then. The total bill for the doctor staff and hospital stay was $600.

Lets not talk about how we built roads in the 1940s and 1950s as examples of how efficient the US government is today. We have bridges and overpasse built then that are absolutely falling apart today going un repaired even though Obama and the Dems forced through the "Stimulus" that was supposed to be for shovel ready jobs but ended up being a slush fund for pork projects.

Right. It's about 'function', not profit. (I think healthcare should be considered in the same light. Efficiency matters indeed, but the 'function' of keeping our citizens healthy, isn't merely some luxury.)

The only reason I feel the government needs to be solely responsible for the military is not that a private one could not do the job better, it is that a private military scares the crap out of me even more than a government military. Its fear of government over throw that I am talking about. I understand your point but I do not think a government centrally run healthcare system would be either more efficient or better run.

I see most things this way:

    1. Human nature, is what it is. It's something that seems to affect everything we say/do or decide.

    2. Without checks and balances (laws, agencies to enforce such laws and the actual 'power' to do so) things (order) deteriorate absolutely and quickly.

    3. Having business BUTT HEADS with Government... serves as a check/balance. It can become unpleasant and messy (as it often has), but it helps to keep ALL sides honest. Healthcare should certainly NOT be solely for-profit; and the system which has ripped-off so many over the years is clear evidence of that.

Healthcare (in my view) can surely garner a profit for those who seek it... but having it be primarily about "profit" is (to me) the worst of all ideas.

The reality is that the insurance companies have been made the boogy man for the high cost of healthcare. The reality is that insurance companies make a modest normal profit. It is not insurance companies that are responsible for the outrageous cost of insurance. There are many factors including. High cost of doctors malpractice insurance resulting from excessive malpractice cases, Ever growing over use of very expensive equipment, and most importantly, the costs that hospitals and Doctors must eat from patients that use the emergency room as there general practitioner doctor and then do not pay the bills.

Sorry... not as pessimistic, cynical and paranoid as your mindset suggests.

Things aren't as good as they could be right now; but there comes a point where we as 'individuals' pick up our roles and do what we can as American citizens to improve what we have before us.

Abject negativism, fear, faithlessness and anger won't fix a damned thing.

I think the problem is well-defined; so I don't disagree with what you share above per se. Even so, I'm not about having people point out the things you did above and not also seriously advocating for SOMETHING to be changed.

What we had was FAR from perfect and what we have is imperfect. Now... let's get on with the task of fixing this damned healthcare system, which is as IMPORTANT as anything else we are willing to deal with.

    Come on!! Let's get moving!!

Americans will once again realize that Conservative principles are the only true way to govern a FREE country. Future fiscal economic realities will finally turn the tide. See link: http://usadebtclock.com/

As long as the FED is able to keep the discount rate to banks artificially low and China keeps buying the bulk of U.S. Treasury Bonds, this government can continue to print money without inflation drowning out the economy. Any interest rate increase will make interest on our national debt too much to deal with. The current Federal Government Santa Claus economy will be over. Americans will welcome the sensible conservatives back in with open arms. We are a FREE ENTERPRIZE system not an AUTHORITARIAN socialist republic.

We already know that 'some' Conservative principles are good; and reasonable human beings realize that certain Liberal principles are good as well.

    How do you change that?

How do we change society to solve the problems so many complain about?

That they are still the same Grand Ol' Party of Reagan's day, not an increasingly erratic but much smaller political party which is so partisan it's driven out anyone who doesn't toe their increasingly harder line.

This problem is reflected in the opinion polls which show both parties to be increasingly out of touch with the American public, but where the Republicans are inflicting the most damage to themselves.

    http://www.people-press.org/2013/02/26/gop-seen-as-principled-but-out-of-touch-and-too-extreme/
At a time when the Republican Party’s image is at a historic low, 62% of the public says the GOP is out of touch with the American people, 56% think it is not open to change and 52% say the party is too extreme.

Opinions about the Democratic Party are mixed, but the party is viewed more positively than the GOP in every dimension tested except one. Somewhat more say the Republican Party than the Democratic Party has strong principles (63% vs. 57%).

What I LOVE about the Pew Research data, is that it hints at how healthy our nation can be. That opposing views aren't brushed aside and that the American people can/will speak up about what they believe is best for this society.

I cannot honestly say that ALL of what the GOP promotes is 'bad'... but I DO strongly criticize that Party for stepping so FAR into the margins and relegating themselves to the 'fringe', rather than being closer to the "Center" and doing the work of and promoting the overall well-being of the American people at-large.

It's not just Obama. It's anything, Lol. Republicans think business is the savior of the world. They just pretend that Jesus is. They get more votes that way but it's not working anymore. Younger generations have figured them out. How can these clowns believe in Jesus and be proper Christians? They don't love anyone who doesn't have money.

You're right; and I saw this day coming.

And you sound relatively young yourself (complement). :)

The way you 'worded' that above is true and straightforward as many smart/honorable young people speak. (I'm encouraged.)

If I had a magic wand and could implement policies at the governmental level to turn our country around it would be these four things:

    1. Tax Reform - Lower the corporate tax rate to zero and institute a national transaction tax with no exemptions with the possible exception being food. It is fact that a 1% transaction tax (not a flat tax paid once a year but paid every time any person or business spends money on every product or service they buy) would generate much more revenue than the Federal Government takes in now. Any increase to this rate would require a national referendum. This kind of tax would be painless for U.S. citizens and businesses and would have the effect of eliminating all class warfare and much of the divisiveness in our political discourse. The most beautiful thing about it is that there would be no need for the IRS.
    2. Repeal Old Laws - Create a new constitutional amendment that would require that any new law created by Congress would require that a law of equal expenditures would need to be repealed. This would stop the expansion of the Federal Government. Congress would still be able to create new bills based on the needs that exist, but will not be able to keep adding on to what we already have on the books. This would be a great thing for this country.
    3. Reduce Executive Branch Power - Go back to the intended "separation of powers" our founding fathers created and greatly reduce the ability of the President to create laws by "Executive Order" and committing troops on foreign soil without an "Act of War" being passed by Congress.
    4. National I.D. - Create an full proof national I.D. card with our Social Security System. It is a privilege to be an American citizen. If you want government benefits or want to vote, you will need this I.D. card. To get this card every citizen would require a one-time verification of citizenship. Once and for all, our country would have it's sovereignty like any other civilized nation.

The right's social policies are what is not sticking.

While there are those who do not agree with their fiscal policies, their social ones just make them look crazy.

    Freeeeedom - anti gays
    Freeeeedom - anti abortion
Freeeeedom - anti atheists (couldn't think of an "anti" that really fit)

At least in my generation (31) this is what the groups I associate with debate. They barely even touch the fiscal stuff, they don't even try.

Then when you try to debate fiscal conservancy they try to switch it right back to their social topics. They get frustrated when they debate me because this doesn't work.

Anyways, if the righties gave their social policies more of a look I think they would DOMINATE elections.

Heck, Romney lost by only two percentage points. If he truly showed the county a more center social policy he would have won. End of story.

They're not willing enough to lie to further their ends, like the followers of liberalism are.

That's a good thing of course, but it doesn't help the GOP. The GOP is hugely flawed. So are liberalism and the Democrat Party.

But real Conservatism is near-perfect, even by the dictionary definition.

    World English Dictionary

    conservatism (kənˈsɜːvəˌtɪzəm)
    — n
    1. opposition to change and innovation
    2. a political philosophy advocating the preservation of the best of the established order in society and opposing radical change

Which goes a long ways to explaining why most of the American public think the RNC is more out of touch than a bunch of CEOs starting a drum circle at an Occupy rally.

    http://www.politico.com/story/2013/04/poll-republicans-democrats-out-of-touch-90132.html
A Washington Post-ABC News poll released on Tuesday found that 70 percent of those surveyed say the GOP is out of touch with “the concerns of most people in the United States today,” while 23 percent say that the party is in touch.

They also say the Democratic Party is out of touch, but by a closer margin of 51 to 43 percent. President Barack Obama is in touch with those concerns, said 51 percent of those surveyed, while 46 percent said that he is not.

You're right. But to sell out on morals is worse than to live with a liberal viewpoint. People will come around to the morals thing.
