Back when three months or so ago when the U.S. started taking measures regarding the virus outbreak

    NOTHING that was done

    U.S. economic shutdown
    social distancing
    contact tracing
    testing

NONE of that was supposed to reduce the raw numbers of cases of the virus over the long term

The whole point of all that was to "flatten the curve" (we had a bunch of nice graphics depicting this) that is to spread out the number of total cases over a period of time so that the number of cases at one time did not overwhelm available hospital beds.

Apparently this succeeded. But none of that was ever intended to reduce the total number of virus cases. That is all but impossible without a vaccine.

So why the hysterical whining now about the total number of cases rising? They were always going to rise.

That is a completely inaccurate understanding of the flattening the curve goal. It wasn't just to flatten it for a bit and watch it spike upwards again. That's the **** which happened during the 1918 Flu and it is NOT something that we wanted to happen.

No, it really is. It's to keep the virus as contained as possible until we have a vaccine ready. This way we save a lot of lives in the near and long term.

People who whine about having to wear a mask or about the economy have their priorities messed up, and those who deny the risks we are facing from this bug are deluding themselves. But that's human nature, of course. Some people prefer to stick their heads in the sand rather than accept a troubling reality, especially if that reality conflicts in some way with their ideologies and biases.

actually it's not. Flattening was to provide time for folks like your boy in NY to get millions of respirators for the folks who were dying in the streets due to Covid. It was to give China more tie to make masks to sell to leftist states. It was to give Ford, GM and My Pillow guy time to make masks and shields.

It was to give time to long term care facilities to do nothing and then blame the fed govt.

It was also to give us time to better understand the virus and then not print or broadcast that understanding, but instead selectively edit the data that gets published.

Why do we not get projections of how many might have the antibodies? Those same folks sure were quick to give projections of deaths and that was printed everywhere and repeated ad nauseum; but it never came to fruition.

the beauty of being out and about is that the body builds up immunities.

The Covid-19 hysterics said NOTHING about this issue while the protesting and rioting was occuring. Now all of a sudden that the Dem Party has wrung every possible political advantage from the protesting AND rioting that they encouraged AND Trump is returning to the campaign stage they 'rediscover' the horrors of the Kung-flu. Sorry . . . this time the nation is not likely to buy into the political Left's panic hysteria.

99% of folks recover. There is no promise of a vaccine. Many many more people will die from economic destruction than a weak virus.

The CDC released a report, literally yesterday, that said the estimated case count is roughly 10x higher than the reported. Those are your folks with anti-bodies (hopefully) and it is still no where near the amount needed to reach herd immunity.

What a stunning rebuttal of his claims. Is that how you win cases?

You expect me to rebut the claims of a conspiracy theory that would require the secret cooperation of billions of people?

    Oh, I just did.

So you think, it's a FACT they have been caught inflating the numbers. Every time they retest a positive case who still shows positive, they report it as a new case.

Actually 7 something i think. For covid, flu and pneumonia combined. Covid might be up to 2. With 90% of those over 75. For the vast majority of people - 99% - corona poses little threat unless you are already immunocompromised and then you'd likely die of the flu anyway.

I think that's more of a systematic flaw than a conspiracy though. Also, people don't test until they feel the need to test and that in of itself is dangerous. I wish that we tested much more aggressively so we could head off the virus, instead of fighting it from behind.

I wish it were 50x, and my hunch is that it's far greater than 10x. I bet there is a lot of us who have been exposed, yet never showed a symptom, or mild symptoms and just moved on with our lives. Are they willing to use that 10x and reduce their mortality rate to sub 1% which is what it really is?
