like with getting a wound when you are out hiking, you could die from an infection. Life is full of unknowns and the body is a miracle in itself in how it adapts, and builds immunities. If you are that scared, stay inside and wear a mask to bed

The rate is less important than the actual number. We are over 127,000 deaths and rising.

Contrast that with Australia with 104 total deaths to date. We have about 13× the population of Australia so multiply their 104 × 13 = 1352. We're doing almost 100 times worse in deaths. We didn't get there by doing it right.

Add in any other variables besides population that you wish and still there's no way to account for such a disparity.

Yeah, life is full of uknowns, but that doesn't mean we don't take sensible precautions against injury or death. That includes dealing with pathogens. We maintain basic hygiene and avoid the most dangerous pathogens for a very good reason. There are much better ways to deal with a pandemic than to run and catch it and pray that it doesn't kill you.

Not sure but it's true. This plays right into a move towards a cashless society "OMG dont touch $ it's full of virus".

Why wont they do widespread antibody testing? Our city has a pop. of 8K. I'd love to see 400 antibody test, bet fully a 3rd or even half would show positive. I think we had it in December, many people had a lingering cough and just felt somewhat "off" but not quite "sick" if that makes sense.

The "hysterical whining" as it is being referred to, is the default response gone to in the aftermath of the disaster that is the city of Seattle. It is a distraction so others do not have to admit that defunding law enforcement is a bad idea without any merit.

If you all would have stayed the F home for three months like I did the virus would be whipped barring imported travel cases. See how that works? You made the choice to spread it around, probably without a mask until your authority figures quit lying to you about them, while I stayed home. Don’t criticize others for their choices when your choices were made based on your selfishness. Yes, my choices were made with my best interest in mind as well. :)

Woops - you switched objectives mid argumnet.

The objective was to flatten the curve.

As we've seen in a good number of places the curve is no longer flattened.

The arguments for wanting it to be flat have not changed, so we have some work to do.

Masks are worn to protect others. Most masks don't offer much protection to the wearer.

The issue is really one of whether you care about other people.

Your posts never sound like you care about anyone but yourself, so you may need to try to remember why it is that masks are considered important.

If you cant see the push to a cashless society, I cant help you see it. This virus fear butts up very nicely to it.

All the Trump supporters and COVID conspiracists should go to the next Trump rally, pack in shoulder to shoulder, without masks, and scream out their support for as long as they can.

That will solve the rise in cases.

What part of “flattening the curve” was and is difficult?

I don't think you understand the concept. It in no way is meant to indicate fewer total virus cases.

The Mainstream Mediocres are scaring people up big time. Suddenly the pliable and naive are in line with a full tank of gas at 4:30 a.m. waiting for a test. The people at the back of the line are burning a full tank of gas at idle waiting all day for a "free" test. People are spaced out on carbon monoxide.

And all the while the daily new deaths are in a downtrend.

You don't have to, if you do it properly the first time.

Nope! It was to delay it so we could manage it and hopefully give time to develop more effective treatments and interventions

But that flattened curve was blown out by reopening too early without a strategy

LOL, it's nowhere near impossible. It's actually remarkably easy to stop the virus, by denying it warm bodies.

But you do have to actually DO IT.
