I think most people wanted to take Dr. King's suggestion and call for appeal: To judge people by their character, not the tone of their skin color and to truly live by that standard. Unfortunately, when is 'character' individualistic, and when is that character not shared by a group of individuals? In other words, I wouldn't want to judge a black person because he's black, but there's an unfortunate element within the black community that is characteristic of them.

We shouldn't judge by race, but if we can't judge by character then what can we judge by? Blacks have a serious problem with themselves, that they have to address.

Yes, there is always going to be a certain amount of initial friction but once that is over the benefits outweigh the problems.

This nation is integrating and simply because there are some bad outcomes that doesn't mean that it happens to all of them.

From the Census data there is definitely a move towards integration and given that is is now 6 years old those percentages could even be higher by now.

In the instance of the OP there was a bad outcome but how many interracial roommates are happily living together on a daily basis without any problems.

How many same race roommates have violent outcomes?

The reality here is that making the statement that people should "self segregate" to "reduce problems" is based upon nothing but racial prejudice since you have no data to prove that this was caused by the roommates being of different races.

It could just as easily have been because they were of different sexes or even because of drugs.

The millions of people living in interracial households demonstrate that race is highly unlikely to be a factor in this instance of domestic violence, no matter how appalling.

Just because there are more couples of two races proves nothing. That study says nothing about the quality of the relationships. The fact that the marriage rates are lower is suggestive of problems.

The second study indicates that additional stressors were added to college roommates at an educational time when full attention should have been available for academic achievement. I challenge its appropriateness to do that to students unless it was relevent to their academic goals.

Your basic assumption is that no sacrifice is too great to achieve the goal of full racial integration. I challenge that assumption.

I have no problem with people earning their place in society, but I will fight politically against paying for inappropriate people to be moved into my immediate neighborhood with my tax dollar. There is already low income housing and less expensive housing where I live that anyone qualified can move into.

I have no problem relating to non-racist blacks, but we live in a time when one of them chopped off a co-worker's head because he thought he was a Muslim. People have a right to be self protective no matter what your "ideals" are.

Other people also have a right to their opinions, especially in matters that concern their own safety.
