Women want right to go topless in public, take case to state's Supreme Court

In a case that pits freedom of expression and equality against public decency, three women are challenging a New Hampshire city ordinance prohibiting public nudity and taking it to the state’s highest court.

The three women in the case argue there’s no state law forbidding female toplessness and that the ordinance is discriminatory since men are allowed to go shirtless.

The women are part of the Free the Nipple movement, a global campaign that argues it should be acceptable for women to bare their nipples in public, since men can. Supporters of the campaign also are taking their causes to courts with mixed success.

In February, a U.S. District Court judge blocked the city of Fort Collins, Colorado, from enforcing a law against women going topless, arguing it was based on gender discrimination. The city is appealing.

In New Hampshire, Heidi Lilley and another woman first challenged the ban when they were cited for going topless at a Gilford beach in 2015. A judge later dismissed that case but the Legislature took up the debate several months later, with a bill that would have made it a crime for women to expose their breasts or nipples in public.

Supporters of the bill warned that allowing women to go bare breasted at beaches could lead to scenes of topless women at libraries and Little League games. They said they were trying to protect families and children.

Quite frankly it is a sexist matter to hold a double standard as to who can go topless.

It's also a blatant violation of the 14th Amendment to create sexist laws. In a legitimate constitutionally constrained Supreme Court, it would be a slam dunk that such laws would be struck down as unconstitutional.

Pretty sure New York allows it but I don't recall hearing about droves of topless women meandering around New York.

For the mean time though I would just suggest avoiding Wal Mart for the time being till this blows over.

Before they approve this the NY Supreme Court needs to look at what Muslim gangs are doing to women in Europe.

Children who were nursing on boobs not so long ago.

Protect them from what? Religion and the false morality spin offs are sooooooo screwed up.

On the down side, boobs will be far less appealing once freed. Half the fun is waiting to see them! :D

Why? It’s entirely irrelevant to the constitutionality of the law.

Girls? We’re talking about women. You seem to have a lot in common with Judge Moore
ps Do men really think that women find hairy balls a thing of beauty? :)

What does that have to do with anything? Maybe we should look at what men are doing to seals in the Pacific? LOL

I think its going to be ultraconservative, sexually self-repressed women opposing this (probably through their husbands). No man has ever seen tits and thought 'that offends me.' Women who use sex to make up for not having anything else pleasant to offer in a relationship find other women who are more open to be a threat, and are quite happy to urge authoritarianism to further the opression that gives there monofacetism an edge.

No one hates women nearly as much as certain other women.

I bring this point up in my prejudice workshops
In my workshops when people say that women hate women. First i ask the the women how many women have best women friends who they confide in and share their thoughts with. Just about every hand goes up. I ask men how many of them have the same kind of relationship with a man and maybe one or two hands go up. Maybe men don’t trust each other
Women who don’t like women usually have bought into the patriarchy. I always say women will talk about each other, with each other for each other , at each other on each other, etc. we are best friends and And now we are realizing how many women have had the same bad experiences and we are acknowledging them and not blaming them

The freed boobs of the majority will be more than unappealing. Same as the hopes of women seeing muscular smooth chested man boobs was. They will be as unsanitary as men's bare chests. As always, women and men have this dream in their heads of what they think will be exposed. Almost all the time, it ain't the picture in your head. Mist of the time, it's progs trying to make things equal in areas where there should really be laws banning both genders instead of allowing the twisted bigoted gender conditioning of rational folks.

I wouldnt say they bought into the payriarchy, I would say they're perpetuating it (though maybe theres not much distinction b/n the two...). The women Im talking about seem to prefer a world where they're the only woman that exists. They're intelligent enough to realize that this is impossible, but they're not capable of emotionally coming to terms with other women existing in their world, so they manipulate the political environment ( by manipulating the men who work it) to oppress their perceived competition: women who are more pleasant than themselves.

Public Indecency is a crime in my state. But it is defined as exposing oneself for the expressed purpose of arousing themselves or others. So complete male or female nudity is legal, as long as it is done in a casual non-sexual way. The law has been defined this way for a long, long time. And yet, it is uncommon to see anyone walking around naked or to see topless women in public.

My sense is that the people of New Hampshire ought to just calm down and leave the topless women alone.

Do you know what an atomizer is? It takes liquid and turns it into a fine mist containing all the elements of the original. Guess what your butt hole does when you fart?

There are no differences by gender.

Laws are not meant to protect you from your own emotional response to things you see.

The only argument for protecting emotions would be in protecting children who are still developing and can actually be irreperably harmed emotionally. Exposed female breasts are not going to damage children emotionally.

Any complaints about my other two arguments against exposure? I'm equally against on both genders. I don't want to see anyone's boobs in public. It's unsanitary, particularly when a woman is lactating. Men can lactate as well.

Can you see any potential issues concerning the meetoo movement?

Describe the picture you have in your head? What do you think you are going to see?

How will exposing mlale or female breasts contribute to the overall good of the nation? What will expressing this "freedom" or "right" do for all of us, not just the young and good looking. I feel creepy typing "good looking". Don't you feel creepy thinking about it within a women's rights sub-forum where it stinks of objectification?

When I was a nipper, I was visting a small village, and as it was hot out, I sat in a small home, and a young lady started to feed her baby, I was not harmed in the slightest.

Women can wear burkas or hijabs if they want to avoid objectification. Those that dont care should be able to dress how they want, like men can.

As you say, few are going to actually excerzise their right to go topless. Whether its the ones we want to see or not is immaterial to the discussion.

Objectification happens in fundamental Islamic nations, too. Men should not be able to walk around bare chested in public. Neither should women. I'm not hypocritical on this.

I don't want to see any of them. Isn't that clear? "WE" is not a part of this discussion. It's you and others who don't mind it.

I think it's dumb and pointless but heh people should have the right to do dumb tgings. I don't see it as an equal rights issue though. Men and women are not the same so the rules in relation to our bodies where they are different cannot be expected to be the same.
