The legal claim that he was "preventing an undocumented future crime" seems to entirely undercut his defense of his actions, as there literally is no legal foundation for it. Since he neither knew of, or had been given any order directing something illegal, his actions are those of a self important boob. A traitor, and his actions should be prosecuted as such.
