It's three days before the vote on extending the sanctions, so Poroshenko decided to start a full scale attack and break the Minsk agreements. Although the shelling on Donetsk never stopped, nor did Poroshenko pull back heavy armaments as specified in Minsk II, the Novorussiya troops withstood it patiently so as to not break the agreement.. With the onset of daylight the Ukrainian artillery carried out a large-scale shelling of settlements in the Donetsk Peoples Republic almost on the entire extension of the contact line. The most violent unsighted bombardment by the Ukrainian artillery targeted Donetsk, Shirokino, Gorlovka and Spartak, Eduard Basurin, spokesman for the Donetsk Peoples Republics (DNR) Defense Ministry, told the press. The shelling saw 5 civilians killed and 24 others wounded, nine of them seriously injuries, he said. As for the losses incurred by the DNR militia, the number of the deceased is 14 people; 86 are injured, including 18 seriously, Basurin is cited as saying by Tass. Chief Doctor at the Petrovsky District Hospital, Igor Rutchenko, said that the Ukrainian forces persisted in shelling the hospital even as the injured were being brought there, forcing a patient evacuation. The hospital has been without energy for over two hours. The shelling of the area goes on. It was decided to evacuate the victims, the chief doctor told Donetsk News Agency at around 3:00 pm GMT. http://rt.com/news/264613-donbass-shelling-mine-trapped/
http://news.yahoo.com/ukrainian-arm...5bzY5BGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMzBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg-- Looks like the Russian Imperialist forces have restarted their war for "Lebensraum" (living space). They won't be satisfied until they goose step into Odessa, murdering everything in their path.
I'm not so sure about this. The situation was comparable (maybe it was a bit less intense) to one month ago when the area around Mariupol was contested. The situation stabilized again after this.
Is this a last gasp before the sanctions are lifted, or is this an attempt to derail the lifting of the sanctions, or both? Because Russia has been in a defensive crouch since this entire conflict began, so it was obviously the NATO puppet Poroshenko who broke the ceasefire.
"The DNR blames Kiev for 'provoking' its troops at around 3:45 this morning. "Kiev denies any provocations and blames the rebels. Kiev’s ‘Anti-Terror Operation’ spokesman, Andrey Lysenko, believes a rebel offensive is underway in Donbass. “'At three in the morning, the enemy started firing on our positions near Maryinka and Krasnogorovka, using heavy artillery. They are trying to make advances, but our forces have repelled every attack and are keeping the situation under control,' he said as cited by RIA Novosti. "READ MORE: At least 1 civilian killed, 4 injured in Ukrainian army shelling of Donbass – reports "Donetsk authorities also say that 37 electric substations in the city have been incapacitated “due to various circumstances.” "Three mines in Donbass lost power following artillery shelling, trapping almost 1,000 miners underground, according to Basurin." Will Ukraine turn into Syria over the summer? http://rt.com/news/264613-donbass-shelling-mine-trapped/
Very sad news. Why can't they show respect for the opposition? War is supposed to be a very last resort, and among civilized people it is.
My gosh your brilliance overwhelms me. And here I thought six thousand miles was living space. I guess I was wrong.
This time Kiev bombed, so the war did restart. Washington will probably still be pressuring the Norwegian Nobel committee to give Poroshenko the peace prize, even though he continues the killing of the people in Donbas. I guess it's just another 'f' you by Nuland. Don't you know, they own the world.
I am curious what they want though, part of Ukraine? All of Ukraine? Have the Russians stated exactly what they want?
What a load of horsecrap. Take 5 minutes to do some unbiased research and you can find what was going on. OSEC has released a report that literally goes step by step in detail to what occurred today. Rebel terrorist were moving a large force against the Kiev controlled city of Marinka. Kiev forces had no choice but to move up its artillery pieces and drive the invaders back. Afterwords the pummeled rebel positions to ensure they terrorists would STAY put, and not try and do something stupid again. http://www.osce.org/ukraine-smm/162116 (Now we wait for you or sharik or DoI to start spouting off about how osec is part if the "CIA propaganda machine.")
The situation in Eastern Ukraine has evolved from LICW to LIC [from Low Intensity Civil War to Low Intensity Conflict]. In a LIC situation both the parts take advantage from keeping on fighting, but just a bit and not in a continuous way. They pay attention to avoid the final escalation to stay in a standstill [active standstill] which doesn't allow to reach a lasting agreement [and this is favorable to both the sides: until they don't reach an agreement they can get as more land they can ...], keeps the international tense high and avoids that international organisms could decide to adopt "measures". For example: imagine if UN send peace keeping troops in Crimea and East Ukraine ... Kiev and Moscow would bomb them!
Yes, what ever happened to this war? Once something better to report came along the mainstream media dropped this war like a hot potato Don't you people see how the media is control us and our thoughts. Jumping from one story to another. IMO distracting us from the most important news. I hope they are not taking direction from the White House, but I often wonder. It just seems that when something is going wrong for the White House the press distracts us with another story line.
It looks like a part of a show again. When US needs to make some political moves in Europe and needs to blame Russia - there are some ukrainians and russians killed in the territory of former Ukraine. This time it was the question of continuation of sanctions. The sanction period was extended and the war will also fade out quite soon. Next time US needs to blame Russia they will command to slaughter some kids again.
To survive. There is no more aims curently. It is not american or european kids who are killed in the schools, not your old people suffering from hunger and impossibility to get medical support. It is our people. Our former soviet people of ukrainian and russian nationality. It would be just fine if Ukraine in any borders is accepted peacefully by EU. It would be very generous if EU pays their debts and supports these people to have economic welfare and even prosperity. But of course there should be peace between EU and Russia. So far we are too different to unite and we need some generations to live and work together. So far EU being weak and pursuing the interests of other state hasn't made any moves to this direction.
They want what they are able to get ... in history Russians have renounced only to a land ... Alaska, but at the end they have sold it ...
UN doesn't have such troops. The weakness of UN is that it is defenseless and weak. UN for sure will not be able to get and suport enough troops to keep the territory of Albania in peace. The conflict in East Ukraine is much more compicated and needs a stronger base. Crimea is safe just because of russian troops. Amasingly there is no war in Crimea! Though this 'war' is reported in media as a conflict between Russia and Ukraine! Isn't it strange that there is no war in the territory of former Ukraine where russian troops are present and noone denies that they are there. But there is stil a question of whether there is or no russian troops in Donbass! - - - Updated - - - And Finland. And eastern Europe. And former soviet republics... In fact Russia has no interests in the territory. The question for now is just the survival of people.
Those weren't exactly renounces ... About Finland, history was different from what you remember ... it declared independence in occasion of the Russian Revolution [and it had conquered by the Tzar ...]. The Soviets tried and reconquered it as well, but Finland resisted. In Crimea there isn't war because nor Kiev neither NATO cares a nut about that peninsula, actually [public communication is a different matter ...]. And overall Natalja is too pretty to be involved in a war!
It was different. Countries don't just declare independence during revolutions. Finland was granted independence from Lenin, the head of revolutionaries. The counterrevoultionaries (supported by the west) did recognise this independence much later. Besides, Finland had its own civil war at the same time with Russia. But in their civil war red revolutionaries appeared to be weaker and lost the war. Later USSR found itself surrounded by (supported from the west) belt of fascist political regimes whose primary aim was to fight with the communists. fascists cut the throats of red political movements in their countries (with the blessing from the west, which used this blood as threatening and kind of qarantine zone). USSR proposed for years different options for mutual coexistence with Finland (starting with declaration of friendship and mutual military policy which was proudly rejected). Then there were several rounds of useless negotiations where USSR tried to trade its territory for the territory of Finland (which doesn't look that much at the policy of Italy towards its african colonies e.g.) And only then there was an aggressive war from the soviet side which helped to secure the land for the coming inevitable war where Finland was used but had no success. If USSR didn't do it the catastrophe in the north would not only erase Baltic fleet and about 15 mln people who live around present Saint-Petersburg, but also would prevent any land lease program, which is largely believed by westerners as decisive factor in fighting Hitler. As for Crimea and Donbass - these territories according to Kiev propaganda are depressive and not needed. But nevertheless they haven't even tried to perform negotiations for federalisation (to make Ukraine a federal republic like Russia or Germany or to make it confederation like the USA). The official story tells that ukrainians are 'protecting their terrtory from the aggressor (Russia), but Russia denies that it is involved. Although Russia doesn't deny that Crimea rejoined Russia and that the territory has Russian military but for some reason noone attacks it from the ukrainian side.
Really? But why the hell do they blockade russian peacekeepers in Pridnestrovye modavian republic? There is only one sense - it is a suicidal provocation in order to kick Russia into the war with Ukraine. For the moment the Ukraine is open, fragile and defenseless. It is not able even to make a decent war operation against the armed militia of Donbass, which has no airforces and has very limited firepower of artillery and armors.
I like that definition ... "red revolutionaries", unfortunately only the ones aligned with Moscow were acceptable by the Soviet power. I'm curious to know how you consider who tried and change the Soviet domain in Praga ir in Hungary ... Were they "counterrevolutionaries"?
Try to look at it not like a ordinary conventional conflict. Russia cannot afford to occupy much more territories in central or western Ukraine. The cost of holding those territories would be high, since resistance would be higher than in Donbass. Therefore the risk of Ukraine is somehow limited.
