Modern Parlimentary style representative democracies have become a grotesque monster, out of control, arrogant, secretive, and deceptive.

Only a naive fool would take the word of a Western politician today, certainly those in the mainstream. They are all deceivers. They are little more than criminal mafia, both mafia families appear to be opponents, but that is a trick, they are cut from the same cloth, and unite on the core issues, esp foreign policy.

The last people they represent are us, the ordinary masses.

They represent their corporate masters, together with a knot of special interest groups, like AIPAC and so on.

This is something that should alarm you, no matter what you believe your politics to be. Think about it - you have a representative democracy, in which those who are chosen (by the elite) to represent you, do not really do so, at all. Any benefit you may get under their rule will be incidental to them.

This is not true democracy, indeed it is not even democracy at all, unless you think a choice between two corrupt mafias is a 'choice'?

Assuming that you don't, then it should alarm you.

Of course, these same elites will tell us that we must fight to RETAIN this version of 'democracy'. Well, that figures, since it is in their interests.

What is not in their interests are people realising that we really do not need these charlatans and hucksters to run a society, at all.

Aside from their deceptions, and devotions to ABU (Anyone but us), do you realise how much it costs to keep their nests feathered?

In short, we pay staggering sums of money to get to vote in a system in which the two parties that are meant to represent what we want and think, but they don't, they represent their paymasters.

    Ask yourself these questions.

Do you regard yourself as being a reasonably intelligent person?

Are you able to make balanced and lucid decision, based on information in front of you?

Are you willing to change your original view, as new information comes to light?

Have you any history of doing well in your given profession, running a small business, or even doing well to keep a family together?

Do you find that those from the representative democractic system often lie, cheat, and even steal?

Do you think you could be trusted with more of a say in the affairs of your city or country?

If the answer to most of those happens to be 'yes', then no matter your previously held politics, welcome to the world of direct democracy.

In a direct democracy, there would be no career politicians, to cheat you, in expenses scandals.

There would be no PM or President, or even leader per se, to invade soverign nations, and murder people, under the guise of a pack of lies.

You would no longer be patronised, by being told that the people you voted to represent, know better than you, so just shut up, and do as you are asked.

And because there would be no career politicians, because there would be no parties, with all the HUGE expense it brings, you would no longer be wasting huge sums on something that doesn't represent you.

    But what to replace it?

Well, if you answered 'yes' to those questions before, then you are what replaces it.

That is right - a true democracy, in which you, your community, are given direct democracy, by way of them meeting at intervals, all across the community, to decide on our own affairs.

Naturally, I would anticipate this being done in a rational and reasonable manner, please do not fall for the propaganda by those that do not represent you, that you are somehow too uncivilised to possibly have more of a say, an absolute one, in your own affairs.

But there would be no political parties, and no paid politicians.

It is they who are too brutal and uncivilised to represent us!

Have faith in yourself, as a person, and as a community.

We need the current system, only in a negative way, as a prostitute needs her pimp.

My girlfriend and I are lucid, reasonably intelligent, own our own businesses, and are trustworthy. The two of us just had a vote, and agreed your paycheck would better serve our current, populists needs than anything you can come up with.

I'll PM you my address....please remit by April 15th, 2012, or face the full force and wrath of our majority position.

    Respectfully,

Are you trying to make some point that the people should not have absolute influence in matters which effect them?

Are you suggesting that you prefer it if some man, who likely has nothing in common with you, let alone care what matters to you, represent you, instead of the people in your own community?

LOL, Jack Napier, you sure are running the gauntlet of options, aren't you? Didn't you just have a thread about only allowing politically savvy people to vote? And now you want direct democracy?

I'm informing you that "true"....or pure democracy readily succumbs to trendy, populists sentiments.

With a population essentially informed by a cabal of media "gatekeepers", trends and populist sentiments can be manufactured with little effort.

We have a hard enough time with media manipulation now....

What we have had since the invention of the printing press....

Media facilitates populist trends...fads, if you will....if direct democracy were the order of the day, national network media... a handful of agenda laden talking heads/pundits/news anchors/"analysts", etc.... could, like they do now, attempt to manipulate opinions on national policy....but, successful acceptance of their influence could be implemented with blazing speed, by simple majority vote, during the very next election cycle.

Direct Democracy is too schizophrenic to foster confidence in an economic system that relies on relative stability....

consider trying to own a business in such an environment....where your 'obligations' to employees...health care coverage levels, wages, retirement compensation, mandated paid vacation days, etc, could be altered by simple majority every election.

The American people are pretty stupid.....true democracy would never work because all taxes would be abolished and then the "People" would sit around complainging that the cops and fire departments shut down from lack of funding.

The American people are pretty stupid, everyone would vote themselves more and more handouts and sit around doing nothing, and all of the brain power in the nation would leave them in their own bucket of filth.

    ????

Let's say. Countries like Norway, Finland, Denmark, Sweeden don't have many problems with the creation of business, and their workers have thousand times better conditions than in USA. Also these countries have less unemployment than USA.

So don't waste your fallacies. Don't work.

If you want to enslave your workers, ok. But tell the truth. Don't try to lie saying that the rights of the workers are bad. The workers are persons and must live well.

Also the standard of live in that countries is thousand times better than USA.

And about the propaganda. Lies. Today the media is controlling everything, and the elite is who is governing according to their interests. Not of the people. With real democracy people would be more educated, because it is one the main points behind this idea. And also how the people would have more power and influence they would have to be more informed. And they will be because they will participate in the decissions, so in discussions, so it will force them to be informed. And media won't have power.

The 'media' would not exist, as it does today.

It too must be killed, for it cannot be cured

It is too far gone, too diseased, too far removed from what reporters were meant to do, and that is report the truth.

No longer would our press be beholden to corps, or be actual corps.

Limited federal and state governments were supposed to accomplish this. As they grow like the blob our freedom and prosperity deminish.

If they haven't, then reject them.

    Run your own affairs.

Share the nations wealth, with the people.

400 people in the US have most of your wealth.

I ask you - can you think of a more unpalatable system that permits this to happen?

Parlimentary style democracies are inherently corrupted.

Here is one symptom of that..

True Democracy never works. The Founding Fathers knew this fact and created the United States as a Republic for very specific and rational reasons.

In a "True Democracy" the mob rule always in the end destroys the nation. They vote for "other peoples' money" and the selfishness of the human animal always takes over.

    READ THE FEDERALIST PAPERS.

It's not really mob rule though, is it, if by mob you mean a mass?

    It is minority rule.

    By a criminal class.

Supported by their friends in the media, and other tiers of the toxic cartel.

All one needs to do to see that this is what we have become, is to look see.

Well the thing is that we, a democratic society, had a vote and 50.5% of us decided that you don't have the right to speak your mind anymore. Sorry.

    ^^ This.

Democracy, especially "direct democracy" is a magnet to demagoguery.

Personally I think our species is emotionally, morally, ethically and educationally unable to operate democracy successfully (by about, um, 200 ish years I think).

I don't disagree with your assessment, but a true Democracy ALWAYS fails. We have the remedy available to us in the current system. The TEA Party is showing us the way.

And I deserved to be called out on that one.

I suppose, historically, benevolent despotism has been our longest serving/most successful method of government (most of the great empires of the past 2000-ish years had their golden ages under benevolent despots).

The problem is when King Bernard The Unbelievably Awesome dies and is succeeded by his inbred son Roger the Sadistic Pedophile (and all of the aforementioned Empires declined due to this problem).

    Benevolent despotism becomes ruthless dictatorship.

So, short answer, there is no answer. Longer answer, benevolent Dictatorship and just hope like hell the the "benevolent" bit lasts a long time.
