I drove home from work a couple hours ago. It was 35 degrees (~5 Celcius), there was a biting 20MPH (30KPH) wind gusting to 35MPH (55KPH), and I drove through two squalls (one snow, one sleet) on the way home. No, a moped is not a practical option for me.

I understand that cars can run on ethanol I am just reminding everyone that 'big oil' will soon become 'big ethanol' like the Who's tune goes "meet the old boss......same as the new boss" with regard to energy economics.

I have a good idea, why not place high tariffs on imported oil, allow drilling here in the U.S. build new refineries and, at the same time, mandate the selling of ethanol at each gas station....Let them compete in a close-to-free market (my mandate means it would not be totally free)

When you go to the gas station it will be YOUR choice which to pump. If we start to run out of oil, the price will jump depending on demand. Let's see just how viable renewable fuel is in the REAL world.

Yep, heard the same thing in 08. Gas will never be under $3.00/gal again. Course just a few months later is crashed through that.

You won't have to worry about those conditions in a couple months. And it doesn't do that on a daily basis.

You're right...in a couple months, I will only have to worry about fog, wind, and heavy rain! No, a moped is still not a practical option for me.

My wife has one (50+MPG). I hate it, it's cramped, noisy, bouncy, underpowered.

you can't have it all.....yes small cars have less power and a little cramped but they are cheap and good on gas. Its either that or pay up when you fill up driving an SUV.

Big Car does that so that you're forced to buy gas guzzlers. Big Car wants you to buy gas guzzlers because they get kickbacks from Big Oil for selling you gas guzzlers.

All things considered, this should be obvious.

also the markups on an SUV and other gas guzzlers is much higher....I have a friend that works at a car dealership and he says the markup on larger vehicles is triple that of a smaller car!

Of course. Big Oil is one of the main owners of the entire WORLD, along with the U.S. government and other Big Corporation owners.

Seems to me the main thing that has libs upset over the cost of gas is the prices increase in NOT due to higher gas taxes

They hate to think of all that additional money going somewhere else other then the US Treasury so Obama can spend it on another "stimulus" in the near stillborn Obama economy

See the thread about the keystone pipeline.
The story linked talks about how gas demand is at a 10yr low. Domestic oil production at 8 yr highs.
Yet gas prices are rising. Howcome?

if you had been following my posts you would know why gasoline prices are rising. They are rising for the same reason corn, wheat, coffee, rice, cotton, copper and silver have been rising. Its all because of Bernacke and his QE 1 and 2. You print alot of money and the end result is higher prices for food and energy.......and in case you did not know,,,,this is classic stagflation.....rising prices while the economy is still stagnant.......the 70's are back....disco music anybody? :)

If you only listened to Jimmy Carter 35 years ago. Since the right didn't want to listen, we're all paying the price.

Once the weather warms up a bit, I'll commute to work on my motorcycle.
Not great MPG, but much better than my gas hog Jeep.

not energy conservation but lower gas prices. The price of gasoline is not rising because of any shortage...its rising because of all the money Bernacke is creating! Notice that the US is consuming way less now than lets say 10 years ago? This is classic stagflation...similar to the 70's
