The liberals and gun control fools demand assault rifles be banned but we see where a simple hand gun was used to shoot 11 people in a gaming venue. It's not the weapon we should fear, it's the nut using the weapon, any weapon. And we already have a law against murder. Jacksonville, Florida Sheriff Michael Williams said 911 calls on the Jacksonville shooting came in at 1:34 p.m. ET. Police were on scene within two minutes. Williams said the shooter was dead when officers arrived. He identified the alleged shooting suspect as 24-year-old David Katz, of Baltimore, Maryland. Williams said the shooting was carried out with a handgun and that Katz allegedly killed himself after killing two others and wounding nine more.
Any type of tool that routinely gets used to commit mass murders needs to be banned. Plain and simple. It sucks for decent law abiding people that indecent non law abiding people exist, but they do. In the end the pleasure these guns bring some is greatly outweighed by the misery they cause others. I think that gun massacres are here to stay. That angry people have cottoned on to this as a way of getting the level of attention they seek. It will continue and indeed accelerate. Mass murder has become a social norm. I think gun control is coming. I don't think it can be avoided any longer. A year ago I thought different, but I have changed my mind. It's coming.
What will fix many of this country's issue with gun violence is discipline. Disciple should include how to cope with frustration. The answer is not gun or game bans, not mental institutions, not metal detectors, not participation trophies, or whatever else people might suggest. Just simple discipline.
Would that be the same weapon which is also used to defend ourselves against murders or other people who wish to do us bodily harm?
Wow. One shooting, not a mass shooting, that involved a 'handgun'. 'Mass' shootings typically involve assault weapons.
Gun control is discipline. Simple discipline. In order to stop drinking, the discipline is... you take the booze out of your house. You remove access to the things that draw the attention of the mind towards stuff you don't want it to think about. There is no point putting heroin in front of a junkie and asking him to be disciplined. You want the shootings to stop, you ban guns, you want them to continue, you don't. Just simple discipline.
Who cares? It means the same thing. Why make semantic arguments. Gun control is going to upset the same people whatever you call it. Oh it's "control" not a ban, therefore I'm OK with it. Nah. They aren't OK with it. Use whatever words you like. Most gun users are innocent of the crimes they are going to get penalised for. Using a different choice of wording doesn't lessen that.
No it doesn't mean the same thing at all. Banning something means it's gone. Controlling something means it's there it's just regulated. Discipline in this context means to cope with that frustrative emotion that would otherwise turn into full blown rage. When one has the discipline of coping, they won't reach for their weapon(s). What you suggest is that we stop symptoms and not get to the root of the issue and that is the individual themselves.
Not only is that idea Unconstitutional, it's also nonsensical. I own multiple guns. None have ever been even so much as pointed, much less fired, at another human. And they never will be, unless said human gives me good cause to do so. It's the person, not the tool.
Mass murder is unconstitutional too. Unconstitutional things can occur. Guess what, the people murdered aren't going to be the only victims of the crime. You are too. Just as they didn't deserve to be shot, you don't deserve to be criminalised for gun ownership. But you will be. Because bad people exist.
Should we ban tobacco, as the pleasure of smoking brings some is greatly outweighed by the misery it cause others, when someone loses a loved one to illness caused by smoking? Should we ban cars, as the pleasure driving cars brings some is greatly outweighed by the misery they cause others, when someone loses a loved one to a car accident? Should we ban alcohol, as the pleasure....well, you see where I'm going with this.
Commies know they will never be able to install their centrally planned, communally owned utopia as long as individual rights, freedom and private property loving Americans are armed with effective weaponry.... they don't harp on handguns too much because handguns are not effective weaponry. Ten men armed with high-capacity magazine equipped semiautomatic rifles can overtake/defend a position against a thousand men armed with handguns. that's the long and short of it. (get it? long and short....long gun, short gun? hehe)
The anti-gun left believes it can generate enough emotional response to gain pubic support for banning these guns -- low hanging fruit, as they say. For them, this is just another step towards the state having a monopoly on force.
If discipline were that easy to come by we wouldn't be the most obese nation in the world. Clearly discipline isn't 'simple'. If we're pinning our hopes on discipline then we are royally ****ed.
Banning assault weapons is only going to get more dem politicians removed from office. In 1994, dems controlled BOTH the House and Senate. then they started pushing their leftist agenda and passed the Assault Weapons Ban. Later that same year, voters tossed dems out of office for it and they lost control of BOTH the house and senate. Dems were smart enough NOT to reinstate the Assault Weapons Ban in 2004, the end of the "sunset" provision. It never worked to curb murders anyway. Steve
Mass shootings typically do NOT involve 'assault weapons' and most people are killed in mass shootings by handguns. See the link in my sig.
11 people shot isn't a mass shooting? Really? Majority of mass shootings over the years have been done by handgun, rifles or shotguns. Only a small percentage have been done with AR-15 type weapons.
They are going to get banned mate and your paranoia about the state coming round your home and waterboarding you isn't going to come true. The idea that the state can't pass laws you don't like or you will shoot everyone, is the exact idea in the head of every person massacring. It's cranky talk, if you think like that, you are too crazy to own a gun.
