Try to use a gun in a crime in the UK and you could get 15 years jail max.
One reason most crooks don't use guns in crimes is that the gun gets you a bigger sentence than the crime itself.
And it works. Same with Japan - gun laws work. Sure, in both countries you have the 'right' to a gun, but like Australia, you want that 'right' then you need to exercise responsibility.
That's why hand gun deaths are uncommon and semi-auto mass killings don't happen. We are glad we have govts that care for this issue.

You need to be licensed, you need the background checks, and having hand guns needs more onerous requirements.
But hand gun crime is rare here - we feel no need to arm ourselves against other people.
