Careful dude. You are talking about scary terms like personal responsibility and agency. Something progressives find to be racist.

You forgot the "while leaving all of the other non-academic-based categories that provide advantages during the admissions process unchallenged" part..........

Or are you simply trying to avoid it?

What you just described is called Jewel In The Crown. A guy gets a jewel for every kid born to a different mother. It’s a ‘hood thing.

I'm from "the hood", and have never heard of this expression "Jewel in the Crown". I also Googled "Jewel in the Crown" and nothing about the hood came up. I am quite skeptical that this practice of getting a jewel for each kid born out of wedlock is a widespread thing that I would call part of the culture.

Here’s a link to show you the term is real

Looking for some way to illustrate the point that you can't legislate morality when dealing with the issue of unwed mothers, Gov. Christine Todd Whitman told a London publication that young black males have a game called "jewels in the crown" that refers to the number of children they can father out of wedlock.

I hope to never again see a culture that is intentionally self destructive only to then blame their woes on other people and they fall for it.

Do you deny the term baby mama? Or the reality that this practice of knocking up women and leaving them to raise a child on their own is rampant in the hood?

American Public Education (as a result of decades of leftist control)
Nurtures man's innate resistance to alternative thinking.
Embraces censorship to suppress alternative viewpoints.
Promotes emotional over rational appeal as means for automatic self-justification.
Replaces metric based evaluation with compliance based rewarding.
Propagandizes ideological causes and demonizes dissidents.
Reinforces an unsubstantiable belief in pro-aligned superiority.

You're talking about the model minority myth. Which is a racist myth that says that certain immigrants are better off than other people because of "cultural values". When a better excuse is the US encouraged highly educated people to immigrate to the US. Who in turn encouraged their kids to get an education.

That sounds like something a charter school would unironically do to save $5.

    I'm not a teacher. Just a TA.

Chicken or the egg? Which came first?

You know darn well that the absolute most important part of a child's education is the child's family. If their family loves education then generally the kid will too. And of course culture is gonna play into it, whether you like/admit it or not.

We had a black day custodian that would often come with us on home visitations for my school. He once remarked that there were always two things he never saw in a black household - books and fathers. Well, he could get away with saying that out loud. But I did notice that the kids we had to visit that were doing well in school academically of ANY race had books in their house that were read. Someone was modeling a love of reading and education. If you're gonna admit that different ethnicities have different cultures and different values, then you also must admit that some of them value education more than others and you're gonna have different results AS a result. And I got multiple ethnicities in me; I easily see it in both sides of MY family.

The kids ask me this sometimes. I tell them the answer is chicken because C comes before E in the dictionary.

What about the schools costs? Teachers and admin pay. Utilities.
I don't think they are the same in Baltimore as Utah.s

Don't those costs get included in the cost of education?

Ummm….in a thread about literacy levels, I am urged to point out that it’s “principal”, not “principle”…..

What is the reason for this??

incompetent teachers?? If students are that illiterate at that age........something is seriously wrong with the system.

Or is this part of the overall dumbing down of America??......which HAS been taking place ....and this is a symptom of it.

Why are they waiting until that age to assess their students literacy ...... this should be picked up a lot sooner and fixed.

That is an astonishingly negative statistic. and does not bode all that well for their future. opportunities
