Lazy Parents breed lazy children. These children are the product of a dysfunctional culture where men gain street cred for the amount of children they have with as many different Baby Mama's as possible and these one parent households become addicted to Freebies and Gimmie's. It will take generations of personal responsibility to change this behavior and we'll NEVER! see it in our lifetime.

America spends more per pupil than any other major developed nation—10% more than the United Kingdom and 28% more than France
    yet we have these results
so don't even think it is about the education budget

take a look at the link you provided pay attention to the list of states with the highest literacy rates, what does those states all have in common? they are probably the least diverse states when it comes to race
now take a look at the states with the lowest, what do they all have in common? all are states with a high minority population

LOL LOL. Dude, check out the highest achieving kids across any Western nation's schools. Guaranteed that more than half will be non-white migrants or children of migrants.

This is the high achievers at just one high school in a WHITE nation. I'll wager most aren't speaking English at home, and some will have parents who speak little English. Want to try again with your 'migrants' BS?

Do away with the SAT's as well as numerical grading and billion will be wasted on folks who couldn't bother learning anything in K-12 schools.

No matter how bad or underfunded a school is Asian students excel and they are welcome because of it. They deserve better funded schools from their community

The Septic Pumping service in my area is hiring! :) Video conferencing successful teachers to the schools where they aren't is a very viable option. This way all the kids would get the benefits from the very best teachers. We could hire lower wage proctors for each classroom to keep order and administer the testing. The kids that excel could be placed with the kids in the live instruction schools. The rest take the class like they did on-line. The money saved by not needing all the union teachers and their Cadillac benefits could be better spent building more prisons to house the ones who simply refuse to learn and turn to crime as a career path.

Do you know who the largest recipients of affirmative action are?

Hint: They're not black or male.

Well, they may not be able to teach them to read, but, they can punish then for "wrong-think".

THIS GOT TO END: Today’s blacklisted American: HS student suspended for expressing opinions in private texts.

They’re coming for you next: "The faculty at Plainwell High School in Michigan suspended student David Stouts for three days because he dared to express his Christian religious beliefs in private texts to his friends."

The Student's family has filed suit, as well they should.

Enough of these tyrannical nutjobs abusing children.

Yes I know… that doesn’t mean that blacks are not effected at a larger per capita rate. Affirmative action should be abolished because it does in fact discriminate.

I have a family member who works at a California inner city highschool. The situation is only getting worse. The students are apathetic in addition to being addicted to their phones. Drug use is rampant. Some students are there to learn, but they are mostly the honors and AP students. The rest are there because they have to be or just to receive a diploma. Many of the teachers and administrators are there just to receive a paycheck.

The solution is a transition to vocational and apprenticeship training for the ones who don't want to be there. Give them a path to the workforce instead of beating a dead horse.

Then get rid of preferences for legacy students, large donations and connections. Why do you target the category that racial and ethnic minorities and women benefit from while leaving all of the other non-academic-based categories that provide advantages during the admissions process unchallenged?

Some schools are better then others because of social and economic factors within the family unit.

Meaning if you have a school that serves an area with majority female head of household--then you have gang culture competing against education , chaotic schools with disrespectful out of control students and burned out distraught teachers.

It's an unteachable situation. Has nothing to do with funding. It has more to do generations knowing only a culture of baby daddies and welfare entitlement..

    You know why..........

Look at all the categories it covers.....
    https://www.dol.gov/general/topic/hiring/affirmativeact

advance qualified minorities, women, persons with disabilities, and covered veterans.

You'll never hear cons complain about all covered groups.

Because I love pointing out how you are wrong.

NCLB was replaced in 2015 by every student succeeds act.

    https://www.edweek.org/policy-politics/no-child-left-behind-an-overview/2015/04

Not that it matters but bush wasn't the president in 2015.

But we both know who was. :)

At any rate...your weak attempt to pass the buck to a Conservative president was laughable. If you still feel the need to blame policy, then I guess you need to change the target on your crosshairs? Lol

    Color me shocked again.

    Shocked I say.

That's ok though. You've elected a president who will surely fix this problem right? Oh wait...

I would actually support that. Federal funds shouldn't go to any school that discriminates in admissions. They should just base admissions on test scores. It's the only bias free way to do that.

But discriminating by race does seem to be morally worse than discriminating by legacies and so forth. It just feels more wrong. But then, I grew up largely after the civil rights era, when racial discrimination was demonized.

That's a false statement and you have no evidence to support it.

Each of the 50 States and Commonwealths use different funding formulas for schools.

In some States, schools are funded solely by property taxes. In other States, it's property taxes and a share of the sales tax revenues derived from the county. And, in others it's property taxes and a share of the sales tax revenues distributed by the State. And, in others, schools are funded by the State and on and on and on with myriad permutations.

Wrong. I was alive then. Obviously, you weren't.

So-called "White Flight" left urban areas all-Black and suburban areas all-White.

The Liberal game plan was for us in our semi-rural/suburban area to ride a bus for an hour to an inner-city school like Taft or Withrow which were violent, full of drugs, high absenteeism, disciplinary problems and teachers and administrators that suck.

My parents and all other parents got Medieval and planned a special tax levy to raise money for a war chest to hire a high-powered law firm to file suit to block it.

Then Nixon correctly shut it down.

    No, they don't.

The idiots running the Cincinnati Public School District went ahead with desegregation by busing kids from White suburban high schools into the all-Black inner-city schools.

It was a total disaster. There was "White Flight" of a different kind. Parents yanked their kids out of the public schools and put them into private schools. Since Ohio uses property taxes and a share of sales tax revenues State-wide, and since funding is based on enrollment, and since declining enrollment means declining dollars for schools, the Cincinnati School District was left in shambles.

After 3 decades of stupidity, Liberals allowed segregation again, only they have a cute word for it: Magnet Schools.

The school district's performance is way better, but still lags way behind White suburban, semi-rural and rural schools in Ohio.

When I fancied myself a secondary ed major, I did two week observations in schools.

A semi-rural all White 7th graders who came from trailer parks (low-income) and were on Food Stamps could read. At Dater Middle School in Cincinnati, which is public housing (low-income), Food Stamps and 80% Black could not read.

It has nothing to do with race and everything to do with culture.

Because it discriminates against white men. There are poor white men believe it or not. If the goal is to lift people out of poverty why leave them behind?

I also agree with getting rid of the points you pointed out. Our goal should be 100% admissions based on merit.
