Hardly. There were far more women DYING from back alley abortions. There were far more kids sitting in foster care/foundling hospitals (See Cider House Rules). It was pretty friggin awful...well unless you had money anyway I love that you talk about welfare as if it is an evil but abortion as well. You are EXACTLY the anti-abortion type I was talking about. At 4 weeks, the brain has begun to form. By 12 weeks, head growth slows. At 12 weeks, the baby can move its fingers and make a fist. At 20 weeks, the baby can hear. After a baby is born, we know that its brain continues to develop.
If they can prove that the "soul" (some magic thing that magically survives our death, so that Jesus can torture it or let it into "heaven") actually exists, and they haven't in about 180,000 years of the existence of our species, then I'd be more inclined to be anti-abortion. Since if the "soul" actually existed then that would give more credence to the belief that an 8-cell zygote is "just like a regular grown person" - because both have, arguably, the same "soul", as such. Too bad "Jesus" doesn't love unborn-to-be-aborted babies enough to simply use his magic ninja X-man superpowers to provide said evidence. Too bad, since millions and millions of babies will get aborted because of Jesus' hatred for the unborn. If I had evidence, like the "all-powerful, and all-knowing, and all-loving" Jesus would of course have, that the "soul" actually existed I'd have given it to the world years ago - but I care for humanity more than Jesus does, of course.
This is where the argument begins. First of all what responsibility do I have for a couple who engage in sex and conceive a child? If a child is conceived then it is the responsibility of the mother and the father for the welfare of the child. It is not a matter of wanting the child or not but a matter of responsibility. The answer is that the wrong things are being taught in sex education. What should be taught is that if one wants to engage in sex and a child is conceived then it is not society's responsibility to raise the child but the parents who will be held responsible. If the child, who is a minor, engages in sex and a child is conceived then the parents will be responsible for the well being of the conceived child until the biological parents are able to fulfil their responsibilities. In rare cases that society has to take care of a child, then yes, all will and should be done for the welfare of the child. Is that a panacea for the child, not always, but it is a better option than never giving the child a chance. In some cases where the parents are unfit then the child should be taken into custody and the parents given the opportunity to learn parenting skills or the child placed in foster care or be available for adoption. Again not a perfect solution but still better than the alternative of abortion.
Bottom line COUPLE Takes two to tango I still think the best solution is to make it mandatory for all young men to do a sperm donation and then be sterilised. Problem solved no unwanted pregnancies no abortions

Rubbish. Since abortion was illegal how does any one know the true figures of the abortion rate,the only time it came to notice was when it went wrong and the woman had to seek medical help. As for unwanted children there were hundreds of thousands of them.Children's Homes in cities were huge,some holding over a thousand.

Check the UVVA, Unborn Victims of Violence Act...THAT is what makes it an offense. It does NOT make the unborn persons with rights. Repeat: It does NOT make a fetus a person with rights. It recognizes the fetus as a VICTIM, NOT a person with rights. I think the purpose is to impose harshger sentences on those who kill pregnant women or deprive them of their fetus. There is no CHILD either way, there IS a fetus, the word science and the law use...and they beat out the emotional hyperbole of "child".
