Any crime? Also, it would be kind of rotten for someone falsely imprisoned to be treated too poorly. I think it's best if our justice system is above such pettiness as allowing cruel treatment of prisoners.

Well my point wasn't really about effectiveness but most reports I've seen suggest that the death penalty can't be shown to have any impact on crime rates. That makes sense to me given that crimes of that seriousness tend to be crimes of passion or madness, neither of which will be proceeded by a careful consideration of the consequences. I doubt public executions specifically have been tried anywhere reliable studies could be performed.

Anyway, you're making the proposal for change so shouldn't you be providing the evidence to support it?

Generally not I'd say. There's a major difference when you know it's fictional.

Does a lock stop a thief? Does a lock stop a regular "joe" who has a moment of weakness?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_execution

    https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/countries-where-public-executions-are-still-held.html

Arguably, the most famous public execuation was Jesus. Did that have any impact on mankind?

I making an argument for my position. If I thought I alone could change it, I wouldn't be wasting time with you.

All those movies and games are in the form of media. The executions would be, also. How can one tell the difference, if not told an execution was staged, without doing further research?

You watch, after this guy is sentenced to life without parole or the death penalty, then in a few years, in the eyes of liberals as they totally forget about the dead kids, Cruz will be the victim in all this. It's pretty much guaranteed.

Strap him into Old Sparky. Put a wet sponge on his head. At which point he won't be laughing. Of course this will never happen. The reason in one word - liberals.

If our society really wanted to stop people from shooting up schools this link provides the step by step "how to" info. http://www.lrc.state.ky.us/kar/501/016/340.htm

We show the same concern for vicious killers as we do for "putting down" a family pet that reached the end of the line. This can be explained by one word - liberals.

So in your mind there are no bad people, just sick ones. IMHO it is people like you who need the professional help. Evil exists.

What is important to me is that a message is sent to people who may this very minute be thinking about shooting up a school. In other words I believe in something you discount - deterrence. Of course your approach assumes that a convicted killer will never kill another person (guard or inmate) in prison which is not the case.

How much "professional help" do you think the taxpayers should provide? I am asking for a dollar figure that you feel is appropriate. A hundred thousand of professional help? Maybe a half million of professional help? Of course this would go along with all of the thousands of dollars of legal help that the taxpayers would provide. A strong case could be made in these school shootings that the professional mental health help and the drugs so provided to the shooters before they commit crimes are the actual cause of these school shooting.

I simply think, if we are going to sit behind a computer and let others decide for us, we are the ones that need an examination......sort of.

I think we have great responsibility here. I think we should be willing to do the deed. I think we should take responsibility for our decisions. We are willing to either risk others lives, via letting some murderers go free, as in @Lee S case, or have them put to death as a consequence of their actions, insane or not.

I'm wondering what real responsibility we have? Shouldn't we have some? The dead have no choice. The killers might, if they are let out. I'm not sure what is best, yet, but I'm thinking........smell the burning flesh from my efforts to think?

The amount is immaterial; whatever it takes to help the individual is paramount.

I ain't no pasychiatrix, but I did stay at a.......

Before he committed those heinous crimes, yes. It's too late now. In my mind, it's like having sex. Once you've done it, you just want more. Well, sort of like that or any other thing which pushes you over the line in life. We all have those things. Look within to find yours.

Mainly, this is due to the circumstances of this case. Some others who've been convicted of murder, may not do it again with some help. That's taking a big chance with other's lives.

This kid is fighting now to avoid the death penalty. My wager is he never even gave it a thought prior to acting. He was planning on getting away with it.

His execution (if it happens) will deter others. It needs to happen quickly (say after one appeal) and be via hanging or the electric chair. Also, the execution should be televised.

Well I just don't think we ought to be in the business of killing the criminally insane. Life without parole or until without a doubt rehabilitated is the way I'd go.
