However it is also quite possible that the kid (19 years old -- we drafted 19 year olds for Viet Nam) with the AR-15 would have killed the deputy.

The deputy decided to wait for backup. This is old school and how they used to teach it.

However the community expected the deputy to risk his life and take a chance at stopping the shooter.

The deputy chickened and did the smart thing instead -- he waited.

Unfortunately children were dying at the same time.

I would have rushed in and counter attacked the kid. But I would have gone to my car and gotten my shotgun first.

But then I am a crazy Marine. I don't know if this deputy was former military or not.

 

You realize when "backup arrived" the backup Broward County deputies ALSO stayed safely outside, right? Four of them, while Coral Springs deputies went inside.

And I personally would NOT risk my life for strangers, I would only risk my life for loved ones and if a mass shooting occurs near me I will get out as quickly as possible. But it isn't my job, and I am not in anyway responsible for the safety of strangers. That deputy had worked at the school nine years and made *over* 100k a year for doing the job, he was well aware of mass school shootings and if he didn't want to be a part of that he should have asked for a different position behind a desk. There is no way he didn't realize this possibility existed especially after he personally knew that Cruz kid was a violent nutcase making threats and didn't submit any records to other agencies.

He did have a responsibility to do something other than hide outside when he was the only person there that even had a weapon.

 

You left out the part that the families of the dead that day also demanded that the deputy who chickened go in and risk his life, possibly for nothing.

It all comes down to Clint Eastwood's movie phrase, spoken by the late movie actor Glan Maria Volonte, "When a man with a pistol meets a man with a rifle, the man with the pistol is a dead man."

Unless the deputy who chickened had access (in his car) to a shotgun or his own AR-15, it would have been foolishness to take on the YOUNG MAN (age 19) who had the AR-15.

 

They do what they do with training, experience and a salary.

 

Anyone who is compensated is a professional. If a criminal was paid to commit a crime, that person is a professional since they were paid to perform a job/service.

We don't.Plus now the Corrupt Sheriff is refusing to release
the Parkland High surveillance video footage.Which should
demonstate a person { shooter } either entering the campus or fleeing.
This supposed shooter was never apprehended at the scene { high school }
But later.So how did they know he was the shooter.
Plus all indications are he was somewhat autistic.Like Adam
Lanza.Lanza was not capable of pulling off Sandy Hook.
That is why there was also NO Surveillance Video.

Like the Aurora Theatre shooter { James Holmes } who was
so drugged after his capture { actually he volunteered to give himself up }
that he was in effect relegated to incapacity.He was under some form
of Government Mind control before his " supposed " killing rampage.

Uhhhh...I know the trend is to blame ALL of the worlds problems on single mothers but in this case it doesn't fit.

The adopted kids started displaying serious behavioral problems at a very young age, while the woman's husband was still alive. It just got worse as they got older. Often times adoptive parents (especially those that get very young kids that don't qualify for state benefits) can find themselves truly screwed if the kids are crazy, no one will help them and sometimes they simply "rehome" them with strangers they meet on the interwebs (the strangers can legally adopt them in most states).

I had a married friend that took in two very young foster kids, siblings aged 2-3 years old from an abusive home. They also had severe problems, including the girl displaying sociopathic traits (threatening to burn down the house, kill her foster parents etc...at 10-11 years old).

If I had to guess, it is likely the product of bad genes combined with a bad environment during the first couple of years at life. Regardless, if they have a severe personality flaw good parenting can't always make much of a difference.

Cruz's brother has been committed to a mental institution since the shooting.

 

Well Cruz DID confess after he was taken into custody, he stood their in court with his defense attorney as she explained how "remorseful he felt". I suppose people could say he was set up and brainwashed but that could be said about every killer.

And I am not surprised the sheriff doesn't want to release the footage. He is already being heavily criticized, if people saw the tapes they would be even angrier. The quicker it drops out of the media spotlight the better for him. Plus very rarely are the tapes released even after the trial. We still haven't seen any tapes from Vegas either, and that situation is a heck of a lot more suspicious!

 

Your hyperbole notwithstanding this is about THIS problem and the continued marginalization of fathers in young boys lives, not just "alive".

 

It seems that he's making a rapid recovery from his depression. That's a good thing.

It's obvious that he is completely insane; making a recovery from depression is not going to make him "mentally healthy" again. I think we'll have to accept the fact that it stands a good chance that he'll be declared mentally insane and spend the rest of his life institutionalized.

Why is the guy insane? He was fully aware of what he was doing. He did it because he wanted to do it. He took action to avoid detection. A person doesn't have to be insane to commit mass murder.

I didn't turn on the TV and listed to reports of the shooting till after
supper.I think the next day this Sheriff held a presser and it seemed
way Out of Line.No Presser by a Sheriff I ever heard.Meaning it seemed
strange.Now we know why.The Sheriff was a big Democrat and Hillary
supporter and also cocky as hell.The school was in a highly democrat
district.There was reporting from Infowars interviewing students who
swore they heard multiple shots and even one said she was standing
right next to Cruz with the other students after the alarm went off and
they were told to go outside.Cruz was widely known around the school and was
subject to being bullied often.The Press conveniently kept that covered-up.
That Cruz was the victim of Bullying at Parkland.
It's way too easy to Frame a person by Faking their Social Media
accounts.George Soros invested millions in the creation of Government
BOTS on Facebook in order to use for playing politics.Especially
on Gun Rights issues.
So ... It could easily have been the case that Cruz was used as a
convenient patsy for months.Like the way Adam Lanza was.
There was also a similar Training exercise a county away from Sandy
Hook,the morning it happened.Plus we saw video of 2 men covered
in all black running away from the Sandy Hook Elementary school
right after the shooting spree.Later it was found out one of those men
was put into a Police Cruiser.NOT in the back seat but in the front.
The coroner also was caught chuckling when asked about his
quickie autopsies as to what size { caliber } rounds were found.
Also what kind of weapon.
Adam Lanza was not strong enough or mentally acute enough
to have pulled off Sandy Hook.Plus they lied repeatedly about his
whereabout earlier in the morning.He went to visit his Father who lived
in another state.
They also had video of a victims father laughing before being
interviewed at a town hall.Just days after the shooting.

 

Can you not read the tea leaves.The Joker { James Holmes } was
nutty as a fruitcake and was seeing a government therapist.He was
under mind control.
How about James Loughner.He was also nutty as hell.
Adam Lanza was supposedly challenged { slightly retarded }'
because they make perfect Patsy.Guys who are slightly off and
withdrawn from society.Thereby not being able to use friends or
loved ones from testifying on their behalf.
The complete control of a crime scene { like Sandy Hook }
and even giving each Victims parents their own police protection.
Which wasn't used for protection but to make sure no one { anyone }
dared interview them.

 

And the good news for today - the Broward State Attorney has announced the State will seek the death penalty for Cruz.
