Because there were fewer of these demonstrations in the past? Wasn't the biggest demonstration this country seen, the demonstration that lead to this being a country?

Why do you keep guessing. Use your vast knowledge, go walk with them, interview them, see what they are like. Why they are doing what they are doing.
What vandalizing? Are you suggesting every flag burner has vandalized?

None of this involved burning a flag.

In fact I have seen a few them interviewed and it's a depressing experience. Watch them and then you'll see why they carry out their tantrums physically rather than discussing the issues rationally. Burning a flag, though legal, is vandalism.

Boor or bore. Either will do. The same arguments will all get a similar response because the facts clearly speaks for themselves.

I know. That's exactly what I just said...

The problem is that your response is disconnected from the argument.

"People who burn flags are stupid," is not a rebuttal to the argument that "Prohibiting flag-burning would be an infringement of free speech."

It's a non-sequitur. Whether or not flag-burners are boors, or idiots, or even big ol' meany heads is immaterial to the argument that free speech should be protected.

It's okay. We both know why you refuse to answer. Just keep that in mind the next time you try to accuse someone else of hypocrisy.

Perhaps. At the very least he is ignorant of what it entails and the purpose of the 1st Amendment.

Either way it is inexcusable for a POTUS.

Then what are we debating here when we both feel that it should be protected? Perhaps some do it just out of boredom, that it adds excitement to their otherwise uneventful lives. It makes them feel important and reckless. That's another explanation, perhaps, apart from my earlier responses.

We seem to be debating whether your repeated comments that amount to nothing more than, "flag burners are stupid," add anything to the conversation.

You seem to think that they do and I think you're just trying to bait people as if everyone defending the right to burn a flag on free speech grounds is a flag burner themselves.

What did you think we were debating?

Then you can debate that these flag burners are intelligent, insightful people with something legitimate to say but somehow can't find the words. It seems you may have burnt a few yourself, right?

Thank you for proving my point.

In fact I asked a question. We both appear to agree that burning a flag is free speech as defined by SCOTUS so there is no doubt that people can do it. My questions involve the idea of WHY they do it - hoping there may be something rational behind it - and have offered a couple of possible explanations. If you have no specific idea as to the why then we can cut this short now.

Why do you think they do it? They do it to get national attention, obviously. Protest in front of city hall and nobody cares. Burn a flag and the Bill O'Reillys and Rachel Maddows of the world give them free national exposure. This isn't hard to figure out.

Btw, since you thing that burning the flag is protected speech, it would be safe to assume that you've burned Ol' Glory more than a couple of times yourself, right? That would be in line with the rationale you seem to be using.
