That's freaking outrageous. I have an immediate neighbour who chain smokes on his back deck - both cigs AND weed (though of course the weed smells better). They also have A LOT of parties. If we started complaining, it would be very difficult to remain on good terms with them. It must be said though .. that these neighbours are not trashy lowlife, and that does make a difference. They're posh and educated, and their parties are very civilised. Gourmet food, expensive wine, and people sitting around discussing art and philosophy.

Could be interesting to just sit and listen to if you can't wrangle an invitation.
Another time we were living in our town house while I built our retirement home and I had my spare pickup parked out front. Admittedly it was butt ugly with peeling paint but I was surprised when a squad of neighbors showed up one day asking me to remove my unsightly vehicle. I said I'd do so but mentioned the to me equally unsightly fence with peeling paint across the street belonging to one of the complainers. The next day he was out their painting it and I removed my spare pickup. Ended well but once again I was thankful I didn't live in town on a regular basis.

So sounds like you were quite proud your stinking cigar smoke was wafting into her house and bothering her. Sounds like it really made your day. Why didn't you go inside and close the windows?

"One of the neighbors told the news outlet he wanted to remain on good terms with Carden, and said they had removed the barbecue from his backyard and told his children to stop playing basketball."

I wouldn't have been so accommodative and the judge agreed with her neighbors. She should move.

OMG. Is this real? They have absolutely NO power to dictate what kind of vehicle is parked either in your drive, or out on the street. Tell them to **** off. I can't believe people would do something like that

Meantime, we do get invites to the neighbours shindigs, but seldom go. They're Progressives, and therefore 'one note'. Not much variety at those events, lets just say.

Nope! People can bbq in their back yard anytime they want and it's none of any neighbor's business..

Thinking you have any say on what, when, why how or with whom your neighbor BBQs
Makes you an rear end orifice.

It's funny how some vegans almost mirror identically some religious groups. They have their own arbitrary morality they think everyone should obey that morality and a few of them are willing to try and force you to obey their morality.

If you were once a vegan inside the detriment to your health and decided not to be a vegan you are disfellowshipped or shunned and treated as an apostate.

    I think it's a religion.

One of our greatest films....even if the lead actor is some weirdo anti-semitic yank. ;)

Most of it was filmed in & around my home town of Melbourne. I've been to or past a number of these locations. When I was a student at Melbourne Uni I had a 'wait a minute....' moment when I first walked into the car park there. Took me a while to work out where I had seen it before. SO cool!

Sadly we have our share of idiots, fortunately we make it difficult for them to get guns. :)

Note that the judge threw this out of court. Hopefully she will waste a lot of money on this, which will mean she can't waste it on something more noxious.

Boy the stories I have when I lived in a townhouse in a crowded development. I bought the house new and things were OK at first, but over the years things got worse and when 1/2 the houses on my block were rented out if I stayed there much longer someone was going to get hurt. Thank God I bought a large wooded lot in PA just a couple years after buying the townhouse. It took me 15 years to move there but it's so nice when your neighbors are so far apart. Still had a couple issues. One time I was putting down a laminate floor and was using a table saw outside when a neighbor who's house I can barely see from mine came over to accuse me of interfering with his garage door opener. I had to explain technology to him.

First off, we don't claim Mel anymore after he became Meltdown Mel (Not to be confused with Moscow Mitch).... That being said, "Braveheart" is one of the great movies of all time, IMHO.

However, I'm probably going to lose my cred when I say it's my son (17) who loves the Mad Max series... it doesn't do much for me... My kid nailed it when he told me the original "Mad Max" looks like a movie filmed by somebody his age with an 8mm camera.. But he likes them anyway.

Neat that you can recognize the locations. When I was a tyke (@ 1970-1974 - Ages 7-11), I grew up in Alice Springs, as my dad was assigned there by an unnamed US agency. I'm sure it's not a booming metropolis now, but it was a very tiny place back then. I can still remember a lot of it, and always have a fond feeling for Australia. Never been back, but sometimes I look at the town on Google Earth and I'm pretty sure I can see the house we lived in and my first elementary school...

We climbed Ayers Rock every year (the dingo never got me), although I read they're stopping that. Sad! We made it to Adelaide, Darwin, and Sydney, but never to Melbourne.

Lot of fond memories (except for vegemite - Good god, I can still taste that crap in my mouth)

    Cheers

Sorry to be the one to tell you, but Mel has always been a US citizen. You don't get to unclaim him. Braveheart was fun, if extraordinarily silly.

The first film was made for next to nothing, but it was still cool. The second film looked much better and was also cool. The rest I can take or leave. The original was probably the first Australian film to make a big splash overseas. Some of the stunt work is epic. The main stunt guy, grant Page, was an absolute madman who almost died several times during shooting. Quentin Tarantino credits the film with changing the way car chases were shot.

If you were in the Alice then it doesn't take much effort to narrow down the agencies. :)

The rock is sacred to the local indigenous people, who have been around for longer than people have been in the Americas. It is central to key aspects of their culture & history. They were never consulted about people drilling holes in the rock & climbing on it and have never been happy about it. In fact, people walking, littering, urinating and sometimes dying on their sacred place is quite distressing. Now they finally get to decide if people are allowed to clamber over it. No one will be hurt by not being able to climb it (quite the reverse, in fact).

A local satire group tried to climb a big cathedral in Sydney recently without permission. The police were called. :)

Melbourne doesn't get the love that Sydney does, so I'm not surprised you missed us (Adelaide & Darwin were obviously convenient). Sydney has one of the best natural settings of any city in the world. On a summers day with the sun glinting off the Opera House with the bridge in the background it is breathtaking. People tend to come here for less prosaic pursuits - we do food, sport & culture very well. We are also close to a nightly penguin parade, which is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Australia.

Vegemite is awesome. Keeps the drop bears away.
