    They are not banning cars.

Currently there are cars able to drive 250 miles on a single charge.
This will only get better, not worse.

And no doubt the American automobile industry will be decades behind the technology.... and more whining will appear why they are buying fancy European cars instead of American.

Technically... Great Britain is just the name of an island. England, Wales and Scotland are on that island. North Ireland is not on that island. They are all part of the UK.

    My V8 is great.
Almost as great as... my other V8.

I'm not adverse to the idea of a hybrid engine, assuming it cuts the mustard. If that's what they use in F1, then it's a good indicator of what is to come in car technology.
    If not, then not.

I think electric is currently a joke. It works but not as well as petrol. Hence no point.

Does the government want to force everyone to spend gazillions of Pounds on crap, yes it does.
And that is why the job of government is to collect my rubbish and not to build my cars or otherwise have any input into my daily life.

The guiding laws for firearms in Scotland are the Firearms (Scotland) Rules 1989 and the Firearms Act (1968). All handguns, semi-automatic and pump-action non-rim-fire rifles are prohibited. A few pistols are licensed on a Firearm Certificate for exactly the same reasons as the rest of Great Britain.

I don't know the details of UK politics, other than the UK govt has pushed the UK down the "progressive" toilet, and the people are revolting (such as brexit).

But declaring a ban on gas/diesel vehicles without a replacement for those vehicles, and setting the ban for 2040, is political posturing taken to the ridiculous. Fits in perfectly with the green prog mentality.

Electric has the ability to work in the UK and the rest of Europe. Better public transit combined with shorter average commutes allows the shorter range of an electric vehicle to be plausible.

They have a very long way to go to be of real use in the US. Everyone I know with electric vehicles has to keep a gas vehicle for anything more than local driving.

This seems to be about public safety. What's next? No cars at all? If the UK believe that the almost non existant NO production has a negative health benefit, what will they do to curb the vehicle accident risk? Look for the next shoe to drop here, which is the elimination of non-autonomous vehicles.

Electric cars are the future, for everyone. If you want to be a world pariah, spreading death, I should pretend they don't exist . American posturing does get tedious!

Sure, Renault are building last gen electric cars. But the innovator here is Tesla. The original comment seemed to have ignored their ownership of that market. Will it last? Who knows. But likely, neither does Renault. More, who or what is going to transfer the power production necessary to power all of these new electric powered pigs? And while we're at it, the UK seem determined to exclude NO, but what happens if production of their power grid vastly outstrips what the auto market was in it's production? Or worse, contributes different or worse pollutants?

You also seem to have missed the point that cars themselves, be they petrol or electric all kill folks. So, if the purpose is to protect the public from their menace, why stop at their power plants?

When Renault is selling their electric car with a radius of 250 miles for under 20K, and Tesla's cheapest car is 15K more and drives less far,... than it's obvious that Tesla lost their spot as "the" innovator.

I doubt that car your random cripple could outrun has a lot in common with the electric cars of today.

You put up this post and than edit out the 2 seat car form Smart and put in the 4 seat Renault, but kept all the words. And yeah... I think these cars are perfectly comparable. Where Tesla sells it at 35K, and Renault being 15K cheaper. That is really a hell of a huge difference.

You're right, they are completely different cars, and frankly, it's like saying a C class compares to your twingo variant. They don't compare, and neither are technologically comparable except for the most superficial of comparisons. Oh, and the original wasn't a smart car, it's the Renault Twizy... So, no, I disagree with you, they are not comparable except to the extent that their technology is either first or next gen. And the Renault is first gen, meaning it isn't driving the market, it's clearly following it. If you want to tote yourself around in the ungainly and frankly dangerous econobox, that I am sure is your prerogative.

Whats they? You put up a lil twingy vs that tesla and comment on it.
And than changed that twingy to a zoe, but stook by your original story lol

    Nope.
One is just a hatchback, the other a sedan.
The main difference is that Renault car has been sold since 2012.
While that Tesla model is from 2017.
Other than the Tesla is more expensive by well over 60%...

You don't get the point that car has a range of 150 miles on a single charge.not much changed .

    23 years, not 33.

Still a long time, as long as they allow wheelchairs i'll still be able to move about, i'll be pretty dam old in 2040.

seems like a weird law,,,, 23 years in advance, long time to reverse course.
