Households owning guns haven't decreased, they've just learned to say "No" when asked "Do you own guns?".

    I call malarky.

For 2013 in Alaska, for example, we had a grand total of 34 murders. Of the 34, we had 12 committed with guns. Montana AND Wyoming both had 9 murders by guns.

    Total Mother Jones hogwash.

I think the FBI data trumps Mother Jones.

that is why the obvious choice for home defense is a handgun and not a long gun or shotgun (sorry Joe)

if you live in a state with common sense then you can have 15 or 17 round magazines (9mm). Rounds are not fired with the energy from a handgun like they are from a long gun. So, you compensate for that with self defense ammo and larger capacity magazines or if ignorant people oppose larger cap mags, then you have an extra loaded mag near your handgun.

And before you go off all uninformed as your posts appear, a biometric safe opens in an instant with YOUR fingerprint, pull out the unloaded pistol, slam home the mag and you're ready in just a few seconds. That sure beats how long it takes for the police and coroner to arrive.

Now, if you only had a meaningful standard with which to honestly judge the situation.

Since you don't own a gun how would you have any idea what should or shouldn't be done?

    Must be awkward........

But tell me - are you really that afraid? I am not trying to be demeaning just trying to understand - what is the driving motivation here? I mean I live in a society without guns - went camping the other week the campgrounds were littered with people sleeping on air mattresses under the stars - NO GUNS

So why is it necessary in America but not here?

    - - - Updated - - -

    I know Murphy rules

I know that when and if you needed the gun it probably would not be at hand unless you have it with you 24/7

I know that there are a lot of deaths in America from guns and that guns make a household LESS safe because THAT is what the research says

I assure you that my guns (yes plural) are in much closer proximity than the police and coroner AND my family members all know how to use them.

Then it is true - the real reason is an engendered fear of race. I had read where the NRA fear tactics actually were based on race and the belief that "arming the blacks" was dangerous

Having seen your reply I now believe it

BTW where did you get that horrible cartoon - Stormfront?

Way to show your bias with your assumptions. Take a look at some facts about race and crime in the US and you'll know what I'm getting at. They've even been posted here recently.

Uhm google, you didn't know google is racist?

Don't care about NRA fuelled paranoia

So when google throws up thousands of matches to a question - it is racist because YOU chose the one from Stormfront

"NRA, blah blah, Americans, blah blah, Guns, blah blah" - Every post by Bowerbird

I'd say try the FBI but the only "facts" you're interested in are ones you find on I'mRight.com.

What do you have against Stormfront, besides the stupid name they're no different then any other advocacy group? Or are you a racist?

    I responded to:
CCWs are more likely, by far, to carry out a mass shooting than stop one.
    My response:
Now, if you only had a meaningful standard with which to honestly judge the situation.

The fact that a tiny number of people with CCW permits have carried our a mass shooting exceeds the number of people with CCW permits who have stopped a mass shooting is in no way a sound metric with which to judge the efficacy of CCW holders on crime or the "danger" to society by those that hold CCWs.

In short: If true, his statement means nothing.

If you do not have a gun with you the entire 24/7 then you are still "at risk" by the standards of those who are insisting that guns in the home = safety

By any other measure just having that gun in the house increases your risk of injury and death

Do you want all the research that goes with that?

Remember these threads are accessible by Google and any youngster with a computer anywhere in the world can read them. They will see one side posting validation for their position with articles from newspapers, research papers, abstracts etc and the other posting one word responses

Which do you think will be more successful in influencing them?

LOL that is so funny even if its pitiful. You must mean the gun rights claims are the side posting with validation of their position.

Your claims have been proven wrong so many times that for you to still even be here is a mystery. You give us blatantly political Brady and VPC sources, we give you FBI and AUS Bureau of Statistics sources. We give you links to open data, you give links to abstracts of papers that cannot be accessed. Even your basic claims have been proven false, such as the claim that there is no ban in Australia, or that there have been no mass shooting events since the ban.

You have lost. Stick to Australian forums where you have a chance to befuddle people.

I'm not claiming anything, I'm letting people draw their own conclusions.

Post some more pics for me I always enjoy them. Got any more NRA cartoons or anything?

They do they do - which is why I am unconcerned about unreferenced claims

And yes a picture is worth a thousand words

Yes Virginia - guns in the home make it less safe not more
