From what I have read from other sources, the facts townhall present are not accurate. The chinese picked it up in open water with the Bowditch about 500 meters away from the glider.

The US is a country supporting long established definitions of 'territorial waters' that it and virtually every other nation on earth adheres to. The US is a country supporting the smaller nations on China's periphery whose far more legitimate claims to some of those waters is being swept aside by Chinese military power. The US is a country asserting the right every country has to transit international waters as it sees fit.

In any case, you have the question wrong: Who is China to overturn existing rules on sea boundaries and ignore the far better claims of surrounding nations to steal a huge expanse of the ocean for itself? That is the only relevant question here.

I haven't taken the time to read through the myriad of responses here nor will I. But just let me say this...If it was President Obama telling China to keep the captured drone, and was cozying up to the Russian's, that 'the Trumpsters would be losing what's left of their feeble minds'. Further, and to take that thought to the next logical conclusion..They'd be calling Obama a 'traitor' and wanting him tried for 'treason'. At the very least...they'd be labeling him as a Commie. But hey, since it's Trump? We'll just give him a pass and a pat on the back and send him along his merry way waiting for his next inane, stupid, asinine remarks.

Yeah the leftness has been trying to discredit them.....not knowing they get their tipsheets from the AP, Reuters, ABC, NBC, CBS, and of course Fox News.

Now the illiberals are trying to push any Right leaning news sources aren't accurate. Its why real liberals are calling them the unhinged.

Seizing a civilian oceanographic research drone without harming a single person is an act of war?

    - - - Updated - - -

What research are they getting out of a oceanographic research drone built with off the shelf technology?

The Bowditch is owned by the Navy so it isn't exactly civilian, but it is not a warship.

The first news reports were of a high tech underwater drone owned and operated by the U.S. Navy, stolen in international waters.

Actually the first news reports gave the name of the ship and the fact that it was an oceanographic research drone. Your knee jerk reaction has no excuse.

It has an all civilian crew and is only used to conduct oceanographic studies.

Doesn't make it not a navy boat.

Its a navy boat in the same way a garbage scow that picks up trash from a carrier is.

    Meaning "only technically".

Wrong. The first news reports I saw and heard said it was U.S. Navy property and it was high tech.

And you didn't bother looking into more information before calling for war with a nuclear power?

Obama is still president and its still his watch. That the Chinese are this brazen only goes to show what contempt they have for the weakest and most pathetic US president in modern history. If or when they try something like this with Trump you can bet the response will not be as limp wristed as Obama's has been...

Clearly the Chinese are emboldened by such a weak President. I imagine their next move will be to seize something big. Maybe a fully crewed surveillance aircraft, for instance. If they really want to show how weak America is in the face of Chinese might they could interrogate the crew for days, hold them for over a week and go over the aircraft with a microscope in the meantime. Of course, a weak President would no doubt apologise in the face of such a provocation.

I can only imagine how proponents of American power in the Pacific would react to such weakness. No doubt they would consider such a President the weakest in American history.

Oh get real. The US has been behind plenty of coups against small countries across the globe when elected governments are nog to the liking of the US. It bombed civilians with Napalm all over Vietnam. Making Assad look like an innocent school boy. The US opposes China, for the sake of opposing China.

Who is the US to just invade Iraq with their lies about WMD's? They got away with it. Why is that? Is it because they got big ass weapons? So who is the US to lecture others about "might is right" is morally unjustified? It's a total joke.

Classic evasion. This is a discussion about maritime boundaries and the illegal annexing of territory. The US respects international law in relation to both. China does not.

Focusing on the US also allows you to ignore the impact of China's massive territorial grab on the nations that surround it. Vietnam is one of those nations. The fact that it is now allowing US ships porting rights in Cam Ranh Bay despite all those napalmed civilians (of whom there weren't actually that many) should tell you how scared Vietnam is of China. Maybe you should spend less time focusing on how evil the US is & do a bit of study on Vietnam/China relations. While you are at it, maybe check out international conventions on maritime boundaries.

Of course, I'm wasting my time. Looks to me like you are well out of your depth, so you resort to tired cliches instead.

Sometimes the others do the same as what the US do all the time at others! A Sort of Echo effect at least ... or any wondering that these others are sometimes smarter or even only bolder as the US?

The US doesn't respect boundries since they allow Israel to build all them settlements across the recognized border. In that regard, the Chinese are building things in the middle of the sea without ethnic cleansing anybody to do that.

in 2009, 200.000 victims were still being compensated for the WMD attacks from the US.
But maybe you don't really appreciate the lives that much to down play this as not many.

oh they trade plenty of stuf with China. They both got a communist agenda. China helped with kicking out the French/American colonial powers, in the time that even monks were setting themselves on fire out of pure misery.

Looks like it. I mean,... you're just looking the other way on the crap that the US does, and think the US got some right to say that China may not do the mild version of it all.
