for many EU residents being a citizen of the EU is a fact of life, being from germany, france or italy...no different than a US resident being from California, New York or Texas...everyone has loyal connection to their home state but also to the larger entity ....many UK residents despite a narrow Brexit vote to the contrary still see themselves as EU citizens and happily wave the EU flag...

I don't understand any of that: the French are protesting against 10 years of austerity, and they're fed up with it when they see how their taxes are being squandered - much the same as I am here in the UK s a matter of fact; 10 effing years of austerity and nothing to show for it except an increased national debt. We're not only being dumbed down by our 'masters', they're trying to impoverish us as well.

I pay taxes, and I know it will be used for whatever purpose, but I don't see myself as a victim.
