Actually, he lost the popular vote by UNDER 3 million votes (2.869 mil)...which is only about 2.2%.

What would the Country think when 30 States voted for Trump and 20 States decided the elections? The Presidential election is not really about individuals or specific areas of dense population, but is about this Country as a whole.

    Prominent Democrats have now endorsed:

    1. Packing the Supreme Court.
    2. Changing the voting age to 16.
    3. Abolishing the electoral college.

So weird how their answer to losing always seems to be: Let's just change the rules.

If it was about "the country as a whole" the winner of the most votes would win. Instead, it's a complex system of electors, who have evolved into rubberstamps.

Who's endorsed that? I would love to see it done.

Doesn't really matter. But why would the GOP be opposed to this? Oh right, young people HATE you guys.

Stupid system that should have never have been in place to begin with.

When we win in 2020, we'll still want to change these rules. The rules we have now are lame. Lame rules need to change.

I was referring to the federal constitution - but yes, the states themselves also have to have their ducks in order

Just not seeing how it could be Constitutional on any level so long as the Electoral College exists.

That argument is irrelevant because participation was low. The popular vote is a meaningless metric unless you have 90+% participation. More people didn't vote at all than either candidate received votes. Also 1 of 5 votes for Clinton were from NY and California, are you saying two states should determine our nation's president?

In a winner take all scenario, in which that state's voters determine the outcome. This would allow other states to determine the outcome and negate the voters completely...

So you also don't understand why we have the electoral election. It's their so a few heavily populated areas don't get to dicate what happens for the rest of the nation.

Hillary only won 487 counties to Trump's 2,626. This isn't a republican issue, it's an issue of not letting a few counties telling the rest of the nation what to do.

    Think of it this way:

What a raw popular vote is akin to is determining the winner of the World Series by total number of runs scored, not by the first team to win 4 out 7 games. What that would do is render the outcome of any particular game in the World Series meaningless.

The Electoral System protects each state's election in a similar way. It prevents the voters from a massively populated state along the coast from making the voters of the midwest irrelevant while still giving some weight to their greater population.

If they keep pushing this, it isn't going to end well.

Why won't it end well? What do you think would happen if we switched to a popular-vote system? I think, at the worst, politicians would campaign in the most populous states. I don't really see that as a bad thing. Why shouldn't a politician spend a lot of time in California? California's GDP is 5th in the world. 1 in 8 Americans is Californian. As it stands now, nobody campaigns in California.

Yes, it must all be a carefully, masterfully orchestrated conspiracy.

It remains to be explained, however, how a popular voting system would suddenly allow illegal aliens to vote. Looking forward to finding that out.

A mob is not a majority. It is a violent extremist group attempting to impose its will on the majority, typically out of shared ignorance and fear.
