You would ask for help in a viral hot spot, have help come from out of state and then after they leave send them a tax bill? You would do that?

It's a political ploy at the 11th hour with no chance of passing. States are opening up, at least partially, mitigating the need and justification for another huge spending bill.

So why do it? Since there is already broad, if not universal, acceptance of the damage to the economy caused by the virus, if things do get better, even marginally, then there's no stopping Trump in November. However, if things do go south, meaning a new wave of infections and the resultant closures of parts of the economy, then the Democrats can point to this bill as having tried.

Who knows how it will work out? Time will tell.

That is how state income taxes work.
    Red states do the same.

They are being paid for their services, do you think the federal government is waiving taxes on these people?

Of course CA has paid more federal income tax than those two states, it’s population based math. But they Have used more federal resources, which yep you guessed it is population based math..

    CA budgeting 101.

    1. Give stimulus checks to illegal aliens
    2. Find out you can’t pay your citizens unemployment, unemployment cause by your actions as a govt. Realize that’s a issue because those legal citizens have paid into that system via their work.
    3. Ask The other states to bail you out.

And you think that is not only acceptable but good governance?

Your deflecting and doing it poorly.

They did not charge them state income tax because the system was set up for it to come out of their checks and they just forgot to turn that system off....they made the conscious decision to send them tax bills afterward...its not a “that’s just how it works” situation at all..it’s utter lack of appreciation mixed with the tax tax tax ideology of the left.

Federal income tax was withheld from their check as it always had been as US citizens. They did not get a tax bill in the mail from Uncle Sam. They are not NY residents though, they were not in NY for profit, but to help because NY called for them too..

Weak and invalid comparison. You and N.Y. have zero defense on this. None at all.

I hope none of them pay it. Would love to see NY pursue legal action against these people. That would be a PR slaughterhouse.

Cuomo is a ungrateful whiner. Sad sack of a human being.

I bet you are the kind of guy who ask people to help you love and then expect them to pitch in for their lunch that day. Then charge them for the cold beer from the fridge you offer them.

I asked for hard numbers, you can break those numbers down by population if you choose — but we both know why you will not.

    It's not the 11th hour... it's more around 1:30...

But if we are able to STAY open and this bill doesn't need to get distributed, or fully distributed, so much the better...

I'm skeptical that will happen and it NEVER hurts to have a PLAN**

** For Trump supporters, a PLAN is "a detailed proposal for achieving a goal"

    You're welcome...

P.S. I believe Trump is DOA, before COVID-19 and after... he's simply not competent

Just going to ignore all that huh?

Dont blame you, you have no way to defend it.

I’m not breaking down number from topic of your post, you brought that up. You break it down, it’s your responsibility to support your “fact” not mine to disprove it.

Liberals want someone else to do everything for them.

It’s not a “plan” even the Dems are saying that. It’s a “talking point”

For the Dems.. a talking point is used to convey a pre determined message in a scripted way across multiple channels. It’s PR 101.

It’s not a plan in any way shape or form.

I am deflecting by saying this is how state income taxes work when being questioned about state income taxes... ok...

Yes, this is how it works — employers typically submit a report (often online) with the names, social security numbers and wages of their employees — if they worked out of state for a minimum amount of days they also submit a report to that state. Employers are supposed to automatically withhold these taxes and remit them — monthly or quarterly (sometimes weekly if they have a certain amount of wages) — if they fail to do this a tax bill is sent. I have worked around the Continental United States and this is how it works in every state with an income tax.

If they were not there for profit (meaning they made no money) there is zero tax liability. Why are you demanding the state do what the federal government isn’t doing? Should the federal government waive all taxes for medical workers?

    Ok

Yeh, we should all know by now that cons applaud tax evasion.

    Ok

I bet you are the type of guy that makes wild speculations to attack others that don't agree with you because you can not arrive at a rational or informed conclusion.

Am I going to ignore your opinion. Yes, absolutely. I asked for data, you refused to provide it.

What needs defense against uninformed irrational opinion?

I would if I believed this was a good faith argument from you, but it isn’t so I won’t waste my time.
It is common knowledge that the blue states on average contribute more than they receive while the opposite is true of red states.
Well — common knowledge to people that are even remotely informed anyway.

    Ok

The goal here is to get the government to bail out all the states that are functionally bankrupt. California being a prime example. No penalty for their crazy programs ant terrible leadership, just wipe the slate clean so they can resume their madness.

Here is the actual title of the Politico article used in the OP (making this an invalid thread in Current Events BTW)

Pelosi unveils $3 trillion coronavirus relief plan amid squeeze from left and right

Notice the "P word in the title..

Compared to the McConnell "Plan", this is the Marshall Plan and Operation Overlord combined....

Some fun reading to show how incorrect your assessment is if you care: https://www.politifact.com/article/2017/feb/14/does-california-give-more-it-gets-dc/

Suggesting that is the tradeoff is just plain silly. But, please do tell me about your support for education.

And, those who are out of work today are HUGELY dominated by those who have lost their jobs due to COVID19 - and our feckless federal opposition to that threat against America.

Suggesting there is a justification for spitting on them is truely disgusting.

I posted the quote directly from that story saying was a “talking point” which it is, but call it a “media cupcake” as well as that is what the Dems will do, try and tempt Americans into their nasty ideology of bigger govt.

    More from that story.

“Still, Pelosi and her deputies hope it will pressure Senate GOP leaders into negotiations on a next package, even as McConnell has said Congress should hit “pause” until lawmakers can determine the success of its previous bills”

i.e. they know it’s not going to even remotely be considered but they are setting it up as leverage for down the road.

Nancy continues to play political games..

We have to evaluate this closely for the total return on investment. The cost of these stimulus bills will haunt the U.S. for the next 3 or more generations. Understand we have to do something, but is this necessary now. I am okay with parts of this that helps those who truly need rent/mortgage assistance and a few other pieces, but not all of it.

    This isn't a "political game".

We have a huge number of citizens who are truely suffering from this COVID19 situation.

And, past money has NOT solved this problem.

In fact, there are still people who are fully qualified and have applied for the last aid and still have ZERO of the dollars they are due.

What's happening IS a game. Corporations with no need are getting huge amounts of aid they are actually sometimes returning. But, workers are sinking as they have lost jobs and are running up large debt for rent and other required expenditures.

So, McConnell thinks the federal government has done something for these people.

And, THAT is the game - for which there are REAL LIVE people trying to find food.

There are workers out of work and desperately searching for food as their debts mount.

Suggesting the corporate bail outs have ANYTHING to do with this problem is absolutely nonsense.

There IS a serious problem here, and it is NOT getting resolved.
