quote: How many cars will be removed all over the world that produce toxic emissions? that---is up to the owners of these vehicals. they will decide what they want to drive.

quote: Then those power generating companies can be made to produce energy with less toxic emissions some point in the future. it sounds like your saying the gov. will (force) power companies to cut emissions, on (so called) green--less toxic ways to make power.-- but you leave out if these new ways "can" produce the power needed for the nation. if the wind don't blow, or the sun shine, or it gets too cold---no power!!!! we have power plants now where neither effect the power supply.

quote: Most auto mfgs are moving to EV all on their own. that is not entirely correct. how? the gov. gives tax brakes to buyers to try to entice people to buy the ev vehicals. so the gov. is tipping the scales with tax payer money on a guess that ev's will catch on with the buying public. remember many car companies tried this before with different vehicles all electric, that didn't sell, and flopped!!!!!!!!

    quote:
there's no fed mandate in USA to move to all electric, but mfgs are doing so any way. At least for cars. Maybe not yet for trucks you forget biden & aoc's gang, have started a war on oil, and have also said they want all
vehicles to go all elect. in a short period of time. the car companies got the (hint) very quickly. they don't want biden and aoc, after them. so they toe the line. possibly loosing billions on this no demand by the public. if this fails again. the auto companies will be in a major bind ----again!!!! looking for another bail out from the gov. that is my opinion. no offence meant to you. :)

When you store energy for an automobile or truck YOU ARE TRANSPORTING AN EXPLOSIVE! THE INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE RUNS ON EXPLOSIONS!!!-- the internal combustion engine runs on explosive fuel.

Not sure why you feel the need to shout or just have bad site?

In the future, the likely only option may be EV only. But that is decades off.
Also, the future is self driving vehicles. People may not need to own vehicles, just call one up like Uber and take one where they need to go.

Of course gov't will put tighter restrictions on pollution. It happens today already. And maybe some responsible companies will reduce emissions on their own. There are Earth conscious CEOs in the world.

What gas power cars can you buy today from GM, Ford, or Chrysler? The list available has been shrinking for about a decade now.

There is no war on oil.
If there was, why is USA one of the leaders in exports on petroleum products?

lets start with this quote: There is no war on oil. yeah right. the 1st thing biden did when he got into office is stop the keystone. stopped drilling, put restrictions on drilling already happening.---aoc was & is still pushing biden to do more to stop oil & natural gas discoveries, at the same time biden is ---begging--- s.a. iran, venezuela to produce more and more oil and n.g for us. and you claim no war on u.s. oil and natural gas production? yeah right!!!!

quote: What gas power cars can you buy today from GM, Ford, or Chrysler? really? you ask that? have you been to any dealership lately? at least 98% of the vehicles are still gasoline or diesel, your trying to look into the future. hopefully there will be a different party in control this year, and in 2024. which will change the vast majority of this silly bull.

quote: The list available has been shrinking for about a decade now. iirc, the last all ev car chevy had was the volt!!! which failed badly. they are designing new ones now. but no where near in production. on most. they did slap a battery into the gmc truck. but i don't see chevy crowing about sales on this truck. do you?

quote: Of course gov't will put tighter restrictions on pollution. It happens today already. And maybe some responsible companies will reduce emissions on their own. There are Earth conscious CEOs in the world. i suspect that these companies are dragging their feet to see what happens in nov. why waste billions of their dollars on ev design when the next election could kill it fast. ah! (responsible companies?) they have to answer to their share holders, not to the environment. if they waste billions and all goes down hill in november. the share holders will not like that at all. don't you think?

quote: In the future, the likely only option may be EV only. But that is decades off. now there we agree, but also your dreaming & hoping that will come to pass. there is no evidence that will happen. the vast majority of the driving public is (not) demanding ev's, self driving vehicles . and all this does is add more cost to buying a new vehicle. which in not good now days. :)

Yes, 90% of climate scientists across the world believe in climate change.

Do you have problems with your vision? Only you seem to need to write short sentences with big letters?
As for the link. What a load of rubbish supplied to make idiots happy. Here's the list of thing the Breitbart idiot claims scientists have said.

EV's are about to become obsolete.
The End For Electric Cars? VW Develops New Hydrogen Technology: “2,000 Km On A Single Tank Of Fuel”!
    By P Gosselin on 12. April 2022

VW may have developed a major hydrogen breakthrough…cars could travel 2000 km on a single tank of fuel.

VW often rails against hydrogen cars, but the German automaker is reported to have filed a patent that could mean a major breakthrough for hydrogen powered vehicles, reports Patrick Freiwa of the German Kreiszeitung here.

Though the latest trend has been electric cars, these have also a number of technical drawbacks like range, cost, mining and weight. Moreover there is also the problem of how to dispose of millions of tons of batteries at the end of their lives.

    Files patent

Despite VW having railed against hydrogen technology for cars, the automaker has “filed a patent for a special fuel cell with the Saxon company Kraftwerk Tubes GmbH,” thus making it clear that the auto giant is indeed pushing hydrogen technology. With the new technology from VW, the company looks to set itself apart from the rest of the field, which has focused on fuel cell technology.

According to the Kreiszeitung: “The main difference to the fuel cells of Hyundai and Toyota is that VW has set on a ceramic diaphragm instead of the usual plastic diaphragm and is the only manufacturer of this technology that produces the ceramic membrane in such a way that the fuel cell can be started quickly.”

The advantages are lower production costs and the elimination of platinum.

    Up to 2000 km range

“The target for the breakthrough of this form of mobility is considered to be the so-called solid-state cell battery,” reports the Kreiszeitung. VW predicts shorter refueling times with the innovative technology.

“We can travel up to 2,000 kilometers on a single tank of fuel,” says the VW engineer Sascha Kuhn.

If true, electric cars will be left in the dust.

I recently junked a 1986 Subaru dual range 4 wheel drive (standard transmission) station wagon. It had over 270,000 miles on it and the only repair ever I did on it was to replace the oil pump. I did one maintenance thing to it: I took the cam cases off and had the cam followers reground.

You aren't going to get more energy out than the amount of hydrogen you can store. And you have to make the hydrogen. That is the fundamental problem.

Hydrogen is an energy carrier NOT an energy source.

This is just about range and storage capacity. There is no big breakthrough.

Cars will not break down if you take good care of them. My son still drives my last car (2004 BMW Z4), which had over 200,000 miles on it when I gave it to him over three years ago. The last time he took it in for some maintenance, they told him that there was every reason to expect it would last at least another 150,00 miles.

In what way is it "better"? More superfund sites to house the dead cells? more dead kids in the congo using their bare hands to mind Cobalt? I'm not exactly sure what you mean by better, so perhaps you can illuminate us with your revelation....

The best my diesel Touareg ever achieved was just over 760 Miles. On one tank. Of course, I was driving down hill out of the rockies across the plains, and with a pretty good tail wind... Not quite 2K Kilometers, but it was good. My hybrid Honda has achieved about 540 Miles on a single tank. But then either of these only required the briefest of stops at fueling stations to return to my travels... Try doing that in a Tesla...

Always possible to find a downside with anything isn't it.
How about the 4.1million litres of oil spilt in the Niger delta.

So true. I have an EV, and frankly I really like it for really specific tasks. It doesn't handle all of my needs, hence why I have more than just one vehicle. I am fortunate that I am able to be as flexible to afford them. But, for long distance travel, EVs don't work, and frankly it's a crap shoot if you get the performance out of them they say you can. Like when it's hot, or cold, and you have to turn on the hvac... Suddenly several hundred miles evaporates...

We just bought an EV so I can thumb my nose at the oil companies foreign and domestic...so far from what I've read, since the batteries are almost 100 percent recyclable they are better for the environment. I'd say if you own a house and 2 cars and most of your driving is around town then you should absolutely get one. If you are a privileged white cis male like I am, that is!

    :)

Me and Colbert are willing to allow the price of gas to climb to a ridiculous amount for a clear conscious! It's a price we appreciate all you plebs to be paying at the gas pump knowing full well that the middle class on down will not be able to just go out and buy an EV...

    but anyways;
    https://www.forbes.com/sites/alanoh...-battery-material-powerhouse/?sh=496aef2b6d06

So the idea that for every battery we will need to dig into the earth for all these raw materials is just false. Beyond that, if you have ever been in one you would notice the ride is really slick. It's quiet. It's fast. No vibrations from the engine. When you turn it on, stuff just lights up. There is no engine turning over noise. It feels like the future.

EV's are not suitable for long road trips because of their range constraint. For that we have a six cylinder SUV.
Around town I have my two-seater roadster with retractable hard top. Why? Because it's fun.

Absolutely agree. Long distance they suck right now. That being said Nissan says it has a solid state battery they are going to put on the market in 2024 that will allow for 15 minute charges. Once that becomes a reality they pretty much trump any gas car unless you have a need for that growl that you get from gas cars.

Me? I hate oil companies. HATE em. They are all ****ed. And if I can not be beholden to them, I will.

I have nothing against oil companies.
I believe the EV is a technological step backward from the ICE vehicle.

Have you ever driven one? I was sold the moment you press a button and it's quiet save stuff just lights up. Also interesting that you have nothing against oil companies considering we are all in the process of getting ****ed by them.

Sorry, but I don't believe oil companies are at fault right now.
The "quiet save stuff" doesn't matter to me.
The EV's capability shortfall is a deal breaker.
