agree, the rich may be getting richer, but the middle class on down are getting poorer and that is what really destroys a county

I am glad I grew up when I did, cause it would be much harder to rise out of poverty in today's world

The cost of housing is directly tied to the cost of buying a house even for those who rent because its a binary market and everyone does one or the other. Most rentals are owned by someone who bought them and rent at the maximum renters will pay. As it gets harder to buy a home (the only alternative to renting one), then the price of renting goes up too.

Because inflation keeps going up but personally speaking my rate of pay has stayed the same.

Ironically that probably won’t kill the country. Political violence started by the poor is almost unheard of. It will more likely start when some rich dude (and yes it will be a man) decides to increase his influence and that starts off a civil war.

    There is also FAMILY.

After all, if you're poor you're going to do whatever it takes to protect the clan by sticking together and living responsibly - whether you're parent, child, aunt, uncle, cousin, neice, nephew, grandparent etc. That's how the poorest always survive.

Not if your parents were responsible.

In every place, era, and generation (outside of bonafide famines as per Africa etc), survival for the poor has always depended upon how responsible the previous generation was. A poor family can live very well on a small farm, for example - if the previous generation bought and paid for that (inexpensive) farm. Every parent has an obligation to secure housing for their kids. It's as fundamental as feeding them.

so that would be our generation, not our parents, at least I assume you're older like I am, why did we let this happen?

and I agree, we let greedy Corporatism get out of control, and it's now killing Capitalism

It's ALWAYS a parents' responsibility ... yours, mine, our kids, their kids, and our parents/grandparents. The shapes change, but the obligation remains. If you won't provide secure housing (for a lifetime - which only takes one fully owned property, no matter how inexpensive) for the family, you have no business having children. My grandparents were poor as church mice, but they bought and paid off their very modest family home just like all their poor, working class neighbours. My parents ditto .. bought a cheap home as newlyweds, and paid it off within 20 years. And so it goes on.

We may have to adapt the way we do it, and change locations in order to do it, but we must still do it. It's actually more important now, than it's ever been.

were talking about society, not yours or my children

the reality is, the rich have the power to control the people, that is what destroyed Rome

if no one but the rich had children, the economy would crash, that would be irresponsible to deny poor people that right to procreate

it's much harder today for the young to buy a home than our parents or us, that is the point

just because you and I did it, doesn't mean that opportunity is there for everyone

excessive foreign outsourcing and excessive foreign imports and soon Artificial Intelligence is taking away the opportunities from our next generations

    Society IS people.

IOW if all of us take this responsibility to house children properly, we'll have a much better society. Either we'll step up and do the work and discomfort of securing property, or we'll not have children we can't afford. The combination means a dramatically better society.

glad I did, but I also think of the next generations. tax cuts for the rich, excessive foreign outsourcing, and excessive foreign imports are like a Pandora's box, and our next generations will pay the price

Well, if inflation outpaces wage increases, it will force a slowdown in spending, and that could bring on a recession.

if people do not start going out, doing local business, buying stuff, we will have another 2008 recession

we were ready to have one in 2019\2020, but covid actually pushed it back

they need to raise the min wage

Don't be silly. Humans have survived loss of jobs for millenia. And besides, we're not discussing the temporary fluctuations in economies of time and place, we're discussing the eternal responsibility of parents to secure food and shelter.
