How Not to React when Your Son Tells You that He's Gay

Whenever I hear someone say that they are going to 'educate me', I check my pockets to make sure no hands are in them, because I know that someone is trying to play me.

It is easy to say that 'homosexuality is a face' but I can just as easily say that 'Christianity is a farce'- both statements have as much validity.

I have no idea whether this video was real or staged- and I don't care. I am always suspicious of Youtube videos and tired of people- which in my experience has been the least educated of the Right Wing- convinced that because it is on Youtube that means it must be true.

Personally I have known two persons who were kicked out and disowned by their families when they were discovered to be gay. Luckily most everyone else has had real families who loved them.

Since the video's authenticity cannot be confirmed or invalidated by anyone in this thread, how about ya'll go forward as if this were a hypothetical. Not that I think it will change what's being said but only so it can stop being a distraction to the topic.

But i am prejudiced against them.

Even at that I don't care what they do in their bedroom or if they want to get married or not.

They shouldn't force churches and anybody else who don't want to nor should the lie about what the Bible says.

 

Everyone has their prejudices- some against Blacks, some against Jews, some against Christians. What is important is how does someone let their prejudices influence how they treat other people.

Well I am sure that they appreciate that.

Nobody is forcing churches to do anything. And before you bring up religious colleges or stores that sell Bibles- you said churches- and no one is forcing churches to do anything.

That is just a talking point made by those who oppose homosexuals.

And if you want to really talk about who 'lies about the Bible'.....well I am up for that discussion.

 

I have one rule that is far more important to me than my prejudices that i try to follow.

If a person treats me with fairness and respect, I will do the same.

Otherwise, if i don't like a person, then I'll go my own way and leave them alone.

What I don't like is lies and other dirty rotten ricks that some people use. And there is a vast array of them.

As far as the Bible discussion, i'm sorry, but no. I'm not up for it.

Everything about this video seems messed up. I'd love to know how people end up so ignorant... and how I can avoid such people. I grew up in poverty but I never saw ignorance such as this, and I just don't see it as a valid excuse.

I worked with a guy that was gay and when he came out his parents kicked him out of the house at 16. It happens.

Funny story. I was looking for work and told him I was free. He mistook what I said and told me his boyfriend was out of town that weekend. We both stood there looking at each other when he realized I did not mean what he thought I meant and we both turned red.

 

IF the video is real then I can see how their kid ended up gay.....The parents seem abusive at the end which can cause significant mental trauma to a child. Could even be that the father is gay. Who knows?

 

Well, there are homosexuals then there is the gay mafia. Don't confuse the two. Lots of homosexuals do not stir the pot.

You see bravery on his part... I see great disrespect for his parents. So what if they don't 'accept' his gayness. A lot of parents never accept their children's mates or the careers they choose. Again, NONE OF OUR BUSINESS.

It's not just fake... it's a crock.

 

You claimed it was fake. It's not fake, It's been confirmed. Parents hitting their child and disowning them for something that is not within their control is inexcusable. Says a lot about you-none of it good.

And yes, this kind of thing is everyone's business. We end up with homeless teens because of garbage like this. So hell yes, it's our business.
