If YOUR religion lead the world (by far) in terrorism, would you work to improve it?

It is the word of God, but it is not normative for Christians, who, for instance, do not circumcise their men. Nor do they keep kosher.

You are making the case that many many muslims also do not follow every word of the Koran

    - - - Updated - - -

Millions of christians all over the word believe it to be accurate. They do not follow every word of it just as you do not follow every word of the new testament.

You are mistaken. Christians believe they can eat shellfish and wear blended fabrics because they are following the words of the bible. They don't stone people because they FOLLOW the words from the bible quoted above

Definitely. I think any religion should be willing to rethink their texts and focus on the "big picture" they are trying to communicate instead. I love Buddhism, but the whole focus on the importance of monks really screwed over laypeople for centuries and ended up bolstering feudalism. Buddha tried to take down the caste system and ended up creating a new one.

Well, I'm an atheist so believe the only god, is that described in their original texts. And the god described in the new testament is very different than the god of the koran and hadiths.

Both books of the Bible are more violent than the Quran.

The bible is word of God. Jesus, who is God is the path to God.

A good question considering we are a Christian nation and we clearly lead the world in state terrorism.

Every Christian believes that Jesus is the path to God. That is what defines Christianity.

    Good points.

Let's remember that Muhammad didn't have a nation when he returned from Mecca to Medina and faced a period that ranged from hostility to war. That war is the context for portions of the Qur'an.

I certainly prefer separation of church and state. The ME made significant progress in science, medicine, math, etc., under Islam during the "dark ages" of the west. But, once one decides that the law is not just the law, but is the word of God it just has to become difficult to progress in governance. There are secular governments in the ME, of course.

And millions and millions believe in one of the most violent books ever written

    - - - Updated - - -

Then they aspire to incredible acts of violence. The new testament is less violent than the old but still pretty bad.

I'm not defending religion, I'm an atheist. It's all bull(*)(*)(*)(*) and eople do misinterpreted things. However, not all religions are created equal. Jesus would have never told anyone to kill for any reason. If they are they clearly aren't following the word of Jesus and are not on the path to God. With Islam that's not really clear, they cant even decide on who Mohammed's successor is. Mohammad's message is bound to be misinterpreted far more often then Jesus'. And is.

The ME did not do so. The Arabs learned everything they knew from the Byzantines and made very modest contributions. The West has done very well without separation of Church and State. Many European countries have State Churches.

The Renaissance in the West was kick started by Byzantine scholars fleeing the Turks after the fall of Constantinople and landing in Italy. Islam succeeded only in snuffing out learning in the ME Imagine how much better the world would be if European civilization were present today in the Middle East and North Africa!

There are FAR more disputes about christanity than Islam. And if Islam worships a violent book then so do many many christians.
