Covid saw an uptick.

Obviously mass shootings involve a mentally unstable person.
We should deal with mental illness with something other than pills administered by oneself.

Use volunteers. There are millions of qualified retired veterans and police officers who would be happy to station themselves at card tables on every floor of every school for coffee, donuts and a school lunch.

Solution to "gun violence"

Sure. Lock up perpetrators with mandatory minimum sentencing laws for any criminal convicted of using a firearm to commit a violent felony. Time for the crime + 40 years....I promise...that will get the message out and at the very least, those that are committing the day to day violence wont be released back into their communities to create more victims.

Lets start there.

Guns other than ARs have been used in 65% of the 142 mass shootings recorded 1982. Those percentages skyrocket if you include the gang related lil thug wannabe school shootings where handguns are used almost exclusively.

For all the lanti-gun lefts whining about ARs, the FACTS show that ARs or rifles of ANY TYPE are responsible for fewer deaths in any given year than people using just their hands and feet as weapons. Handguns remain the primary weapon of choice for the 10,000 plus murders committed annually.

BTW...Audrey Hale was not equipped with 2 ARs...she was carrying a handgun, an AR style weapons, and a 9mm pistol caliber carbine (a Keltec Sub 2000)...and that is the weapon she is seen carrying.

Why would anyone assume that most if not all retired police officers and veterans would hesitate to volunteer to protect school children if given the opportunity?

IMHO, it's not about the type of gun. A shop needs to check if the person buying is able to buy one.
While in about all other cases everybody else is just able to sell, give, rent, lend whatever gun to who ever.

It wasn't selected because of its lethality. It was selected because the ammunition would be lighter and a soldier could carry more. It is less lethal than the 7.62 M14 it replaced.

Semi auto rifles have been popular for a very long time with ordinary people. It is overkill for home defense if one is dealing with a single perp. It is ideal when one is dealing with several of them

I don't own one. I don't know anybody that owns one but I would have no reason to dispute the statistic.

A pastime? hyperbole much? Every school shooting is a horror. In the old days we didn't let sociopaths live among the rest of us. They were confined in mental hospitals. We didn't have any school shootings. We got weak and we are paying a price for that weakness. Audrey was known to be a sociopath or something most of us don't have to live with.

how often would a teacher have to actually defend their students if the mopes got the news that breaking into a given school would most likely mean one of the teachers would shoot the intruder? You seem to think that teachers would be training 20 hours a week

 

I own a bunch of them for several different reasons

1) home defense in both 556 and 9mm
2) National service rifle events
3) 3G competitions
4) Steel speed shooting events in 9mm
5) one specifically built for varmint control

you are right about why the M16 was chosen. as warfare tactics evolved, the rifleman is more there to suppress movement while artillery and airpower inflicts most of the casualties. A soldier with almost 300 rounds is more effective than one with 160 rounds even if his weapon has a shorter range and is less lethal

 

Here is the problem with your argument and that of your fellow travelers on the left

1) you claim you want to ban "assault weapons" to stop murders
2) Yet, these weapons are used in less murders than fists or knives
3) Handguns are-by a far margin-the weapon of choice for murders

yet you gun banners don't target them

so obviously stopping murders is not your true motivation
