    Lt Col Fertig was a an Army Lt Col who was left in the Philippines after the Japanese defeated most of them. He organized a guerrilla group to fight the Japanese. He asked to be promoted to General because it would get him more prestige with the Filipinos and he would be able to become more effective. MacArthur refused to promote him. He still did more for the war effort than MacArthur did.

    We will never forgive him for “the Brisbane line”. It was never admitted to being a government proposal but MacArthur did mention it in a press conference. He was going to cede the northern half of Australia to the Japanese and only confront them at Brisbane

    He refused to give the Australian troops ANY credit insisting that any win by the Aussies was officially only an “Allied forces win”

    By the way regarding the desert in Australia, is it mainly high desert (like the United States) or low desert (like Saudi Arabia)?

    Just pointing out that Aus never relied solely on the ANZUS treaty, we never really expected you to keep your end of the bargain, even though WE have kept ours!
