Okay. So, when you refer to "the nation's wealth" you aren't talking about the wealth in the federal government's treasury.

And from what you've said, my wealth is my wealth and not the nation's. That leaves me wondering what the heck you mean when you say "the nation's wealth". Very curious turn of phrase.

you of course know perfectly well what I am saying. You like to play this moronic game, and it's amusing for a time.

You seem to be confusing wealth owned by individuals with what you refer to at "the nation's wealth". It's a very common mistake made by authoritarian collectivists.

I'm confusing nothing, and you know perfectly well what I mean.

I've made no mistake, nor am I an authoritarian collectivist.

LA has rent control; it only exacerbates the problem.

LA is quickly becoming New York City with better weather, and outside investors are placing a HUGE burden on the housing stock, gobbling up affordable housing and razing or "renovating" it to extract maximum wealth at an enormous human cost, all while virtually no affordable housing is being built.

Add in the problems with illegal immigration and homelessness, and the problem becomes much worse every year.

The phrase "the nation's wealth" has an implicit assumption that each individual's wealth somehow belongs to the nation. It's very collectivist.

Unless the housing is owned by the government, rent control cannot even begin to address the problems, often making them worse.

Should foreign investors be allowed to own large chunks of other countries?

China owning farms in Australia for instance?

You meant "the nation's wealth", which is exactly what you said. That's not a thing, so you're word salad was, to be charitable, misleading at best.

Where foreign ownership of crucial national assets is concerned, you're correct.

But we must tread softly, as we are LITERALLY owned by China at this point.

China bought about 30 BILLION dollars worth of US real estate in 2015 alone, so yeah - it's a HUGE problem.

    It's more complicated.

    Basically, everyone's right - it's a total fustercluck.

How so? I don't pretend to be an expert in housing policy and I am open to the idea that it's a bad idea.

Too many to even begin to enumerate; Google has millions of links to articles on the subject however, so you can learn more with a search there.

Theoretically, only government owned - or so-called "public" - housing can work, but even there, the problems are numerous and serious.
