Right like corporate taxes and environmental regulations the second of which should also be part of new trade deals. As of now China can pollute at will which obviously gives them an unfair trade advantage over us

What I want is for other countries to have to also have our strict pollution standards. Good for free trade and good for earth. I've said this multiple times but the left in here just can't seem to get it or refuses to

No. You look at the situation in its entirety. As for time, Trump's been charging additional tariffs for over a year now. You won't admit that the predictions of these tariffs leading to inflation in our consumer goods haven't panned out?

China pours cash into our University system, into Left-wing Think-tanks and politicians. In exchange, the Left carries water for the Chi-Coms in every controversy between our nations.

Well, somebody is paying them, and there is no unusual consumer inflation and there is no unusual inflation in import prices.
    Everyone with a brain.
Consumer price inflation is very tame.

I 100% agree with this. I am conservative, but I'm a big time tree hugger as well, lol. Any deals with other nations need to require them to have environmental regulations at least as strict as ours.

When it comes to the environment, the less business we do with China, the better. But all these Tree Huggers seem very upset that Trump is reducing the rate of increase in the amount of business we do with China. What do you think is up with that?

I think that they hate Trump more than they love the Earth. That’s a lot of hate. Also they love the money China pours into the liberal coffers.

What do you think about this?

NAFTA has six main advantages. According to a Congressional Research Service report prepared in 2017, the act has more than tripled trade between Canada, Mexico, and the United States since it was enacted. The agreement reduced and eliminated tariffs.

Second, greater trade increased economic output. While it is challenging to weigh the impact of NAFTA given the variety of factors involved, experts estimated that full NAFTA implementation would U.S. growth by as much as 0.5 percent a year.

Third, while there are varying estimates, stronger growth created jobs. According to a 2010 report, U.S. free trade agreements – the lion's share of which stemmed from the NAFTA agreement – directly supported 5.4 million jobs, while trade with these countries supported 17.7 million.

Fourth, foreign direct investment (FDI) more than tripled. The U.S. increased FDI in Mexico from $15.2 billion in 1993 to $104.4 billion in 2012, and from $69.9 billion in Canada in 1993 to $352.9 billion in 2015. Mexico ramped up investment in the U.S. by 1283% over the same time period, while Canada's FDI increased by 911%.

Fifth, NAFTA lowered prices. U.S. oil imports from Mexico cost less because NAFTA got rid of tariffs. That reduces America's reliance on oil from the Middle East. Low-cost oil reduces gas prices, which reduces transportation cost. Food prices are lower in turn.

Sixth, the agreement helped with government spending. Each nation's government contracts became available to suppliers in all three member countries. That increased competition and lowered costs.

In the myriad cases in which so-called Americans refuse to do certain types of work...it is extremely beneficial to have immigrant labor...

Foreign corporations pay corporate taxes on any business they do in the USA. Regarding regulations, regardless of trade issues, most are in place to protect the environment and people and these regulations are precisely why the USA is such a great place to live and work...sounds like you prefer to terminate these regulations so Americans can live and work like they do in 3rd world nations...hecka of a plan...

Nope, not buying it. Tell the midwest this report and see if they agree with you with lots of abandoned factory buildings and jobs in their areas.

Do you think you just throw a switch and all the pollution goes away?
I give them an A for effort.

China is shutting down steel mills
In its heyday, Baoding had eight steel mills, all contributing to China’s status as the world’s biggest producer. However, as part of the government’s efforts to clean up the environment around Beijing and reduce steel capacity, Baoding’s mills were shut down.

    Top 10 countries going solar
    [IMG]

    1. China
China has a bigger solar energy capacity than any other country in the world, at a gargantuan 130 gigawatts. It also still holds the record for largest operational solar project in its 1,547-MW project at Tengger, recorded in 2018. These feats are made easier by the fact that China is the world’s largest manufacturer of solar panels, which has seen it already exceed the government’s 2020 target for solar installations, offsetting a significant carbon footprint.

Facts are stubborn things. Not only are Consumer Prices free of any unusual signs of tariff driven inflation but import prices are actually down, not up, since Trump started ramping up tariffs in the second half of last year.

All you need to do now is add Trumps tariffs on top of this number.

So the billions collected in the form of tariffs just materialized out of thin air?

I have made it abundantly clear multiple times in this thread that my "heck of a plan" is that these countries should have to meet our environmental standards on any goods they sell here and especially in industries we had that can no longer compete with foreign goods in large part due to the fact that those countries are allowed to pollute and have no expensive environmental standards.
I'm tired of repeating myself on this and am tired of correcting one blinders on liberal after another with reading comprehension problems.

None of which has anything to do with China polluting rivers and groundwater with toxic chemicals as they produce cheap goods to dump in America. E for effort?:roflol:

[IMG]A farmer working by a polluted waterway on the outskirts of Shanghai. Data points to pollution in underground water that is heavily used by farms, factories and households
Industrial pollution and farming has rendered it unsuitable for human use

"According to statistics reported by the Chinese media, more than 80% of the underground water in large river basins of mainland China is unfit for drinking or bathing because of contamination from industry and farming. This was first revealed in 2015, following the survey of 2.103 underground wells by the Water Resources Ministry, whose results were published for the first time in the Ministry’s official website. Most public attention in recent years has focused on the country’s severe air pollution, while underground water pollution is also very alarming, as about 400 out of 600 cities in the country use groundwater as their source of drinking water. It is worth mentioning that most of them draw from deeper reservoirs that were not part of this study, but many villages and small towns in the countryside depend on shallow wells like those were tested for the report. You think Chinas polluted rivers don't flow into the world's oceans? You fine with pollution in China because it sells us resulting cheap products?
    The ultimate NIMBY I guess.

Coming to a stream near you.

The Environmental Protection Agency announced Thursday that it has finalized a repeal of the Obama-era clean water rule that spells out protections for large and small bodies of water. The EPA will create a new rule to replace the Waters of the United States (WOTUS) regulation, which was established in 2015. The Trump administration rule is expected to cover fewer waterways than the current one and weaken existing protections.
