Our last couple of presidents haven't had the balls to sign the dotted line. However I will say that at least our current President has expanded our military, raised the budget, and has opened the door for recruitment.

That said, our current president never served our country just like our last one.

FDR never served in uniform but was Secretary of the Navy once.

Truman, Eisenhower, JFK, LBJ, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush 41 and Bush 43 all served.

Reagan was the last President to serve in the U.S. Cavalry (horse cavalry)

    Clinton and Obama didn't serve.

Clinton was the first actual draft dodger who was elected as President.

Trump's Army ROTC at the NYMA doesn't really count.

It was G.H. Bush who contacted the Trump White House asking that when he died he wanted President Trump to attend his funeral.

Something about ending the politics and putting America first again.

I understand that. It's still a f**king slap in the face for that jackass to salute.

Take it up with President Reagan.

He's the one who had military regulations changed that from now on the Commander in Chief will return the salute when saluted by any member of the military serving under his command.

There is no regulation that states that the current Commander in Chief has to salute any former President living or dead. Trump just did it.

It's more than likely will become a tradition from now on.

All Trump hate aside, the salute was just the right thing to do.

I don't recall Pres Obama having any deferments.
Slightly, most military folks say as with everything else he is more talk than anything else.

How many deferments did our last one have again.

Reagan eyes kept him from being shipped overseas. So Reagan was transferred over to the U.S. Army Air Forces and made training films for the Army.

Trump Calls U.S. Defense Spending “Crazy” in Apparent Change of Heart on Military Budget.

Trump took to Twitter to say that the U.S. has spent $716 billion on defense this year—an amount he called “crazy.” However, last August, the president signed the John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which approved that exact amount for defense spending in the fiscal year 2019.

At the time, Trump said the increase in spending was to provide the U.S. military with resources “better than any military on earth.” The bill provided the largest military pay raise in nine years.

On Monday, Trump seemed to have a change of heart, lamenting the country’s high defense spending and blaming it on an arms race with Russia and China. The president said he would aim to meet with the leaders of these two nations “at some time in the future” to stop the “uncontrollable Arms Race.”

Right! And it pisses me off that he did. I'd think it would piss off any veteran. I'd be saying the same thing if it were bill clinton.

Can you cite me the last President to volunteer to serve their country? Or at the very least, to cite the last President who was in a military uniform serving their country?

I'm a veteran and I think President Trump did the right thing by saluting a former dead President.

When I was a Marine I saluted President Nixon once. Nixon didn't return the salute but nodded his head.

As a civilian I saw former President Reagan at a park watching a Little League game maybe 1990 or so and I saluted Reagan.

I can cite you the last one who claims to be so patriotic, but had multiple deferments when his country called.
