Begin your learning process by reading and comprehending a microeconomics book. That's about junior level college for most economic learning institutions.

    Then we'll talk seriously.

So do you agree that it’s impossible to gauge what a buyer is willing to pay when they themselves aren’t told going in what a service costs? The whole point of free market is if you don’t like the price of a service you can look elsewhere yet in the health industry they are allowed to hide their prices.

That ignores what I said about adding 30 million people to the healthcare system, that is greater demand whether you like it or not.

I’m not debating the current system vs Medicare for all sorry if I gave that impression. I’m debating that the system as is at the very least needs work done to make it more free market.

Those who think government run health care will be great probably don't remember a time when many people didn't have health insurance and the government wasn't involved. It was just the patient and the doc. Today it's not just the insurance company, you, and the doc -- the government is now in the mix. Growing up in a family of 5 we had a family doctor. When my mom took me to him we didn't need an appointment, he worked me in, he might give me a shot, paint my throat, charge $3, and my mom paid him cash. Once a visit on a Friday resulted in the doc telling my mom to have me at the hospital on Monday morning so he could remove my tonsils. Just that quick and he charged only $50 for the operation. The hospital charged $25 for one overnight stay. Once the government got involved the red tape flowed and now we have a Rube Goldberg medical system. A simple task now requires over-complicated procedures. God help us when the government takes over every aspect.

My point was they are both run by the US Government and neither works well. Let me ask you this, how is Medicare not socialized medicine? I am forced to pay into the plan then at 65 forced to use it.

Could you provide some information that shows in what ways their health care is superior, what their better outcomes are, where and how their physicians are trained?

That doesn't mean it would end up being implemented that way.

I would agree but will we know how things will end up and then be given a choice or will citizens be forced to it however it ends up being implemented?

    1. The Obamacare debacle has made people more aware of the need for healthcare services, more so than in the past.

    2. Politicians have tried to add 30 million more people to the healthcare system, which is greater demand for the services.

    3. Whether people are seeking medicare for all services or privatized healthcare the greater demand has caused the quality of services to fall, wait times for services longer, and higher costs for services.

For example, when someone needs a CT scan they can get a price quote from various services and then ask their doctor to prescribe it for them. But when demand is greater and the supply of services has NOT increased to meet demand, then they will LIKELY take whichever service is available in the quickest amount of time. That likely means the quality of the CT scan may also be marginal.

I am in agreement with you about the free market, but it is state and federal government that has barriers to medical industry entry, therefore the SUPPLY of services hasn't risen to meet the level of demand, and therefore the quality of service is lower, the wait times are longer, and the COSTS and prices have risen.

You don't order tests, services and medication... your doctor does. You are not the customer.

If you're smart enough you can request your doctor to order from specific companies. Why do you think they advertise?

I even threw out a specialist because I didn't trust him and asked my primary care doctor to look for a specialist in another city.

You don't know the healthcare industry. You can't order from a menu.

No, I only WORKED in the healthcare industry for 20 years or so. You put yourself at risk if you take every word your doctor says as the gospel truth.

If your doctor won't listen to you, then you need a new doctor.

Then you should know better than to trust every word. These are human beings just like everyone else. Some are good and some are bad.

That's correct. You still don't order your own tests, procedures, medications etc.

I DIDN'T SAY to order your own tests. I said, if you need a CT scan (as in the doctor says so) then you can go and check prices of other services giving CT scans and then ask your doctor to prescribe them INSTEAD. These companies ADVERTISE.

At least get an explanation as to why one service is recommended over others.

I think when citizens believe that theirs is the greatest nation in the world, it is very difficult to accept that another country has a superior solution to healthcare. In their minds, winners do not take pointers from losers.

America can get healthcare right if we have the will to do so.
