Bill Weld is not a neo con, he's a libertarian (like Trump critic Justin Amash) who is pro gay marriage and worried about global warming. He voted for Biden.

    So is he a conservative?

There are many ways to be conservative. The problem is this groupthink approach that says all conservatives must agree on an ever-growing, extremely long list of issues, and often be rather extreme about it (like outlawing abortion or something as harmless as gay marriage). There are no secular reasons to oppose gay marriage. It's purely religious dogma.

Well I assume we talking about the term "conservative" as the OP is using it in this thread. I'm sure we could have (in another thread) a long, philosophical discussion of the roots and varieties of conservatism, but that discussion, like your comment, seems outside the scope of this thread.

Bill Weld is one of the most fiscally conservative politicians you'll ever find. As a libertarian, he condones issues like gay marriage and/or legal pot. So, yes, socially liberal and fiscally conservative is conservative in my book, since I am not too concerned about settled issues like gay marriage (legalized by conservative SC). If there is a new conservative/moderate party, he would be a very good fit. His views are pretty close to my own (which means they are probably pretty far from yours).

Well said. Most libertarians consider themselves conservative, even though they agree with liberals on social issues. It depends on where your priorities are, and its little weird some people go on about gay marriage as if that is some kind of measure of how conservative one is. Evangelicals oppose gay marriages based on Biblical views, and I get that, but being ok with it does not mean one is not conservative.

Some people are hell bent on labeling everyone who is not 100% loyal to the Republican party as "neo-con", and that comes across pretty desperate.

DP is like CCP only not based in China or any more overtly Communist than democratic.

Neo-cons are Democrats, AKA Republicans In Name Only.

What are the differences between a Democrat politician and a Democrat politician?

I never did see a clear link as to who most of these 100 are. Maybe they should be called "Nobodies In Name Only."

I don't think they'll be missed at all, because they never brought anything to the table in the first place. They were about as useful to the party as a bee's nest is to a picnic.

Now we're making some progress here. Libertarians are not "conservatives" so I perfectly get them being part of the anti Trump game. But they already have their own party, so that's not really going to impact the neo cons.

And what does that have to do with the topic? The names on the list (like Bill Weld) are not neo-cons. Neo-cons are happy in the Republican party, and clearly the Republican voters love them, since they keep voting for them. Why do you think they joined the GOP the first place?

Please open a thread about neo-cons if that is what you want to talk about, because this one is really not about them no matter how much you and little mike, etc want it to be.

I suppose many lawmakers and governors are nobodies to lots of people who don't know them.

Most are conservative on most issues, but you are welcome to your opinion on the matter.

You are satisfied with status quo. I get it. Some others are optimistic about the idea of a brighter future. Is there something wrong with that?

Absolutely NOT! The only constant in life is change............and change means nothing is static. Particularly in politics.

Its funny how those who complain the most about current issues seem to be the fiercest defenders of status quo.

My guess is that they resist change because of fear / anxiety or don't adjust well.

Bill Weld is a notorious RINO. Most professional politicians are are very alike, especially neo-cons who support DP candidates. Weld morphed from a "libertarian" into a RINO. Now he is being described as a "conservative" IOW, a "neocon" which implies that he is a new conservative. Weld is not a new anything.
Weld is just a common two-faced old establishment political opportunist. There is a lot of that going around. ;-)

“As John McCain was securing the Republican nomination, Duberstein [former Reagan Chief of Staff] made inquiries about running his theoretical transition team, according to several campaign aides…. but the McCain team was not interested in his services anyway, and eventually Duberstein wound up endorsing Obama, just after Colin did.” THIS TOWN, Mark Leibovich, Penguin Books, 2013 p. 6.

Why would any professional politician want to make any significant changes to a system that enriches them?

“Getting Rich has become the great bipartisan ideal: “No Democrats and Republicans in Washington anymore, only millionaires”, goes the maxim. The ultimate Green party. You still hear the term “public service” thrown around, but often with irony and full knowledge that “self-service” is now the real insider play.”

Sure. He is a libertarian-conservative, and therefore Republican In Name Only. He would be happier in a conservative party than GOP. He is one of the most fiscally conservative people you'll find. He should wear the RINO label ar a batch of honor.

Can you name some views of his which makes you label him a neo-con. Thank you in advance.

Sure seems that way. They are pre-emptively smearing everyone who even thinks about a new conservative party. Such sheepish loyalty to a political party is....well......weak. Lemming will be lemmings.

I'm all for it if it starts with the evil Democratic party. Let's let them split into two parties and then we can get a moderate party. Are you ok with that?

I only see people that have a history of not liking Trump or Republicans to support this and I think it's because it's the Republican party. See why I posed the above question?

Its not that we don't want change or a third party. We just know this won't change anything. It's 100+ former Republicans plus a few current ones.

Both parties have people leaving. The difference between Republicans leaving the GOP and Democrats leaving thier party is important to understand.

Those that leave the GOP were never strong conservatives to begin with or neoconservatives. These people will mostly never vote for a Democrat. Most of them will still vote Republican.

Those that leave the DNC will mostly NEVER go back and will not vote for a Democrat after leaving. Some are switching parties like the Mayor of North Las Vegas which is a heavily populated black area where a Republican would never get elected. Now the many black Democrats there will be influenced by a Republican mayor for several years in a state Trump lost by only about 30,000 votes. That has a bigger effect than 100 Republicans threatening to leave the GOP and he is just 1 man.

We have had 2-3 threads about this at PF. 1 in the current news forum, I think 1 in political beliefs forum and 1 here and all were started by Democrats or people who have a posting history of leaning to the left. I doubt any of them would be posting this if it was 100 Democrats threatening to leave the Democratic party.

The left biased media sure loves to make a big deal about a nothing story that will most likely never actually happen and even if it did these people will still most likely vote Republican.

I would expect conservative Dems to join the new party as well.

You are too married to the Republican party, which is why you spare no argument to oppose the formation of a new conservative party.

Your mind revolves around Trump. The idea of a 3rd party is not new. I have supported the idea for decades. The Republican party started leaving their principles a long time ago, and now they have pretty much made it official that their future is in populism, and not conservatism. That's why these conservatives are thinking about a new party.

Well, I am nor a Democrat or a leftist. I actually want a conservative party. I'll bet the other threads were fiercely defended by not conservatives, but by Trump apologists like you who think everything is all about Trump, and they always see themselves as victims of evil Democrat conspiracies.

Republicans who endorse Democrats are obviously RINOs. This is not hard to figure out.
A RINO is a phony. It is not a label any honorable person would be proud of. Which does not mean that Weld is not proud of being a RINO.

Lot of conservatives opted to fire Trump because he was an insult to their views and principles. My point is that these conservatives do not feel like they belong in the Republican party anymore, so the "RINO" is accurate. You think "RINO" some kind of insult, but is should not be taken as such by those who do not agree with the direction Republicans are going. Think about Claus von Stauffenberg, a German nazi who realized the nazis were on a terrible parh, so he became a NINO (nazi in name only), and later tried to assassinate Hitler. He followed his conscience.

People do what they think is best. If you think its best to remain loyal to the Republican party, then fine, stay there, but why attack those conservatives who want to form a conservative party? Do you feel they are betraying you? No, they are not, they are simply following their conscience.

So what is conservative to you?

Having the right to own a gun, supporting America and Americans first, keeping out illegals and pushing for Christian values is what many Republicans support. How are we still not conservative?

The Republican party was founded by abolitionists and we are still very much against rascism and hatred.

The only thing changing is the party is becoming more diverse. Trump supported many of my conservative views thus I felt he was conservative.

Neo cons are not conservatives and this new party they threaten to make looks like a party with just a bunch of old white men.

LOL! You obviously do not read my posts. I have never pretended to like either party.

"Trump failed to offer any specific positive goals for a second term.
Pointing out that the "DP Sucks" does resonate with almost all ordinary Americans now.
Pointing out that the "DP/RP Sucks" would have been a far more credible." Dd

Comparing Trump to Hitler is a form of Holocaust denial that should be avoided.

The neo-cons are RINOs. They are part of the Wall Street, warmonger, Walmart economy faction that has become very repulsive to ordinary Americans.

"Jill Stein responds to Sanders' endorsement of Clinton
"I join millions of Americans who see Hillary Clinton's campaign as the opposite of what they and Bernie Sanders have fought for. Despite her penchant for flip flopping rhetoric, Hillary Clinton has spent decades consistently serving the causes of Wall Street, war and the Walmart economy."
    https://www.jill2016.com/sanders_endorsement_clinton

Hence all the left wing, DP, and Independent support for Trump that took down the Blue Wall - twice.

Trump has always been a moderate liberal. His entire platform, including the wall, had been embraced by DP leaders within the last two decades.

The abolitionists were not conservatives - they were radical liberal activists. Slightly more radical than most of the Founders of the republic. The Big Bad Government Tories were the conservatives. Our corrupt bipartisan political elites have more in common with the 18th century Tories than with ordinary Americans.

Bush and Dick Cheney were for those things.

Hiking the debt by 8 trillion in 4 years is not. Imposing massive import taxes is not. Raving against free press is not. Lying non-stop is not. Going to war against free trade is not. Humping our enemies legs is not. Rejecting democracy is not. Attacking US corporations who dont praise you is not. Attacking law enforcement like FBI and justice department is not. Publicly insulting and demeaning individuals who you dont agree with you is not. Being morally bankrupt is not. Sending handouts to people in checke bearing your name is not. Pushing for increase in unfunded spending is not. Attacking your allies is not. The list goes on.

Pushing Christian values is not conservative either. Freedom of and/or from religion is conservative.

Its ok. You like the Republican party, so you stick with it. Its ok to have three parties: 1. GOP, - populist. 2. Dems, - left wing 3. Conservative (new party)

Why don't you open a tread about neo-cons since that is obviously what you want to talk about. This thread is about new party for conservatives.

Sorry if Claus von Stauffenberg being a "nazi in name only" somehow translated to comparing Trump to Hitler, but that comparison was hatched in your head, not mine.
