Usually that's the case, but not this time.

Yeah, shutting down the fed gov is a fantastic boon to the American people.

Does that mean the are going to stop collecting taxes too?

If the continuing resolution doesn't pass, it's a failure of the majority party.

Only the Republicans can prevent the shutdown.

I remember hearing somewhere the phrase "shutting down the federal government" is a misnomer. I think it amounts to the closing of some National parks that today's people have no inclination to go to anyway.

The People will know that it's the Republicans in full control of both chambers of Congress and the White House.

The People will know that certain factions in the Republican Party would love nothing more than for the government to shutdown.

The Democrats will likely get some of the blame, but the lion's share will go to the party in control.

Ok, back to remedial civics for you then. REPUBLICANS CONTROL BOTH HOUSES AND THE PRESIDENCY. Democrats can not, in any way, shut down the government.

No they'd vote to reject the budget. If republicans propose something and don't have the votes then that's on them.

The Dems are shutting down the government to show support for illegals.

    Amazing.

They'll put together something that requires a few Democrat votes in the Senate, which they will either vote for, or the non-essential portions of the government will close. I personally don't see why we have non-essential government employees.

If they are non-essential they should be eliminated.

Sorry, but that's not how it will be perceived.

Funny how the Republicans want all of the power but none of the responsibility for their actions.

If you remember correctly, the Michelle Bachman's were all out protesting because the National Park Service shut down thereby closing the Museums in Washington for the tourists

I think you are defining the term "non essential" too loosely, you know all those Congressmen would be bitching like hell when the restrooms in the Capital weren't clean

Well, if they don't want to vote to keep the government open, hand them a mop.

Trump's not going to do something stupid, like Obama hinted that he would, default or halt Social Security Checks. Trump will make these payments. All not raising the debt ceiling means is that we can't go deeper into debt. I'm fine with going to a cash system for awhile.

Being able to deport the criminal element within the dreamers is important.

I have no idea. I'm sure Trump won't barricade the monuments.

Can't stay open unless they have a staff to open, close and monitor, you want someone running away with historical artifacts

Well then if a couple handfuls of Dems don't support raising the debt ceiling maybe it will be closed for a time. Perhaps Trump should call for Volunteers.

Wrong. If the government shuts down, Trump owns it.

He said, in a meeting open to the press, that he would sign whatever bipartisan immigration proposal that was brought to him. He set the ground rules.

The Senate came up with a bipartisan proposal and then he reneged on his own commitment. If he had just kept his word, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Republicans could avoid a shutdown if they wanted to - without a single Democrat vote. To try to blame this on Democrats, when it is entirely within the control of the Republicans to avoid it, is laughable.

But mostly this is on Trump for a lack of leadership. Actually the opposite of leadership.

Good luck with that. It's the Dems and their love of illegals.

If a government shutdown would mean that SS checks weren't being sent out, watch how quickly the Trump base would change tunes.
