    True story.

Three days ago there was this law abiding gun owner.
And then.... he broke the law. Shoot 20 kids dead.

Well if you ignore the 39 times he was reported some directly to the FBI, you might be sort of right!

What was he reported for, it wouldn't be making politically provocative comments online would it?
Maybe ones advocating violence. You know like defend myself from the state with my gun, or defend my family with my gun... nothing like that right? My right to use lethal force.
    No antagonised angry males here.
Not comments about blowing peoples heads off if they come for my gun was it? Policemen being described as jackbooted Nazi's who are going to be murdered.
Read this thread. You'll find a few here. Have you contacted the FBI yet?
If you have a gun and you openly consider using it to resolve your conflicts.... should I take those comments seriously?

Everyone is sane until they go crazy. Everyone is law abiding until they break the law.
I have to look at you, because I have to look at everyone with a gun. We tick all the boxes.

So to disarm every crazy in advance of any massacre, we have to be disarmed too.
It sucks being right wing. Having to take personal responsibility for everything. But hey ho.

Sounds a lot like "Our right to preemptively invade your country to prevent the possibility of your country launching an attack outweighs your right to National Sovereignty". Do you support preemptively invading other countries to try to keep the world safe?
    No? Didn't think so.

We have a list of people who we do not allow on airplanes. Not because they have done something, but because some aspects of their behavior say they could be dangerous.
We search everyone boarding a plane- hundreds of millions of them to insure flight safety. There has yet to be a single terrorist or high jacker caught by the process, but we continue to feel it's necessary.

We do something similar with people who trip some trigger of a regulatory rule be in international communication, where they have traveled, something they said.
We manage to find those people. We tap their phones, trace their travel, monitor their credit cards and bank accounts. All on suspicions due to circumstances

And you think we couldn't identify mentally disturbed people?
Normal people don't just become homicidal mass murders. These people, virtually without exception, have shown strong signs of mental instability that indicates they can be dangerous- and we do nothing with that.

Study the people who have done these things; the warning signs are there; the action in regard to them is not. Often that actions are known to police, psychologists, teachers, parents, neighbors and a variety of acquaintances. Yet, there is no database on them, no record of potential risk, no monitoring, no official warning to family or local authority- nothing until it's too late. Then you think that if we imposed new laws restricting weapons, the crazy people would just say "Oh well... guess I can't kill anybody after all...."
I mean, even a homicidal mass-murder maniac knows you shouldn't violate the law, so that should fix it.

"A local official said Cruz received mental health treatment at one point but stopped getting that treatment more than a year ago"

Also one family member has told authorities he was on anti-depressants at one time but stop taking them..

He lied :) Regardless of that, it's the over the top PC and civil rights that the Leftist are enforcing that's causing apprehension in investigations!

Not in the slightest, kazenatus. Where do you come up with these false equivalencies?

Nothing unconstitutional about restricting guns to crazy people.

BTW, this proves my point :) You leftist want solid proof before you do NOTHING! And then when it happens you blame law abiding gun owners for your silly safety nets :)

Now, you have a logical answer that could help to some extent.
We do already have a law doing that, however we do not have a way to know who those high-risk people are before we can add them to the no-buy gun list.
As far as the firearms law goes, if you have not been committed against your will or adjudged insane by a court, you are just another citizen- even if the police are having to respond to violence at your house every few weeks. We have to have a way to identify and monitor people who pose high risks of violence, and we have nothing like that.

If you say the wrong thing in airport security, you can wind up on the no-fly list, for the safety of the public.
Mass shootings certainly affect the safety of the public, and those at high-risk of doing it are mostly visible- but we don't want to address that.
It's not something that can't be done, just something we are reluctant to do.
