Those 'diagnosable' disorders are the RESULT of the trigger, according to the sufferer. You can't even get this stuff straight in your mind.

I feel like the physicist talking to the 4 year old .. about physics.

You don't know what you are talking about, so you're resorting to insults. Super impressive.

    Yeah, it's bonkers.

Everyone knows when a teen commits suicide it's for a valid reason.

How does that video justify anything you are talking about? Someone with suicidal ideation should be treated by a medical professional. The parents removed their child from treatment. That's not good parenting.

Just because you don't like LGBT people, and children too maybe, doesn't mean you can treat them like second class citizens.

Letting your 17 year old cut off their penis is neither "treatment" nor is it "good parenting".

I could care less what an adult decides.

If the state "professionals" agreed that exposing your 12 year old to group sex was "therapy" I wonder if you'd be so supportive.

WTF is a state "professional"? People don't consider that therapy and you're right if they did I would be very concerned. Again read the article then get back to me.

Oh I understand it quite well.

We have a mentally ill 17 year old who wants to cut his penis off thinking that will somehow make him a girl.

The state argues that the parents are wrong from stopping him from cutting off his penis.

And what happens when the boy cuts his penis off, realizes he's still not a girl, and kills himself anyway?

Is this how we should combat suicidal bulimics? The state will demand the parents allow the child to starve themselves?

    That fixes everything.

Best thing that could happen. Let him go. Don't recognize him and adopt a child or use his college savings for some fun and investment.

OK I think I get it. You just don't like sexual reassignment. That's fine.

Let's talk about this story. The parents of this child lost custody first. Then they tried to regain custody to stop the child from having sexual reassignment. You need to think about what actually happened here. The father of the child told him to "kill himself". They also pulled a mentally ill teenager out of psychiatric treatment and forced him to undergo christian therapy nonsense. That's why they don't have custody. That's what this article is about. It's not about if you think transgender people should have surgery.

FYI the teenager is a transgender male. He was born a female. No chopping off of penises. That's how I know you didn't read anything.

No, what I think is that letting the mentally ill harm themselves by feeding into their mental illness does not cure them.

You don't graft scales onto someone who thinks they're a dragon to help them, and you don't starve a bulimic to cure them. You don't chop off the arms and legs of someone with xenomelia to cure them.

You don't cure a boy who thinks he's a girl by chopping off his penis either.

The mental illness is that, in reality he is biologically a male. The only place he is female is in his mind.

That is why you don't fix the problem by attempting to make reality fit the mental illness.

That is also why, regardless of what surgery you perform, he will still be extremely likely to kill himself anyway.

at 17, you can petition a judge for such things, the law worked as it should in a case like this

doesn't mater the teens reasons, if the teen wants to live with another family member, they can petition the court and the current parents pay child support till age 18

Like I said, I get it. You don't think trans people should have surgery. That's ok. That's still not what this article was about.

Personally I don't really understand the surgery aspect of transgender identity. To me if you want to live as a woman or man then go for it. Medically altering your body seems like an alien concept. I feel the same way about people who undergo plastic surgery to "improve" their appearance. It seems strange. That said, if you want to do something and a doctor says it's ok who am I to judge or stop them.

No, I don't think the way to treat a mental illness is to reinforce the mental illness.

There is only ONE category of body dysphoria that is handled in this way, and it is the one where sexuality is involved.

Does that seem scientific to you?

I'm not going to debate whether or not trans people should have surgery with you. I already gave you my opinion in my last post.

At the end of the day if someone wants to have this surgery they can and it's not my place to tell them they shouldn't or can't. I don't know what their life is like and I am not a psychiatrist or doctor.

A child's brain is supposedly not fully developed until around the age of 27. Most 17 year olds who have sex with a person older than 17 will be considered sexually abused, even if the child wanted it and enjoyed it.

    You figure it out.

:lol Turning a hole into a pole is not medically necessary. Until we cure cancer, we should not be wasting precious resources on this. If it is important to her, she can get a job and save up.

Saying no does not equate abuse. And considering the child's state of mind I would be reluctant to agree with such a life altering decision as well. This kid becomes suicidal simply because his parents didn't comply with his wishes. Obviously he's not mature enough to handle adult situations. Life is not going to treat him kindly if his reaction is to throw a temper tantrum every time he doesn't get his way. Caving in and saying yes just to get them to stop, that's where the abuse is.
