How about if the media stops leading with race in their stories?

 

I don't think they do. At least I haven't noticed it. Most of the time I have to check pictures to see what the races are in most local news

What about that Buffalo shooting, that **** happens every weekend in Shitcago, but the only reason it got legs as a News story was because it was a single white guy doing the shooting. Over 50% the murders in the United States are committed by 13% of the population which is Black.

 

And the media should stop downplaying these types of events in the OP and instead broadcast them widely. At some point the "community leaders" will get tired of the death and destruction in the communities they supposedly represent. Then perhaps they will speak up against the culture instead of creating false enemies. And then perhaps others will also stand up against the culture and change will be implemented from within. Probably the only way things will change - from within the community - but that will take the honesty and courage to admit the problem first instead of placing blame on others.

 

And it is only a small portion of that 13% that is committing the murders. But to a large extent, the large portion of that 13% don't want to admit there is a problem. And when those outside of the 13% speak up, they are labeled as racists, as haters, and as white supremacists. So, the media and society have created a situation where only the 13% can solve their internal problems.

 

What metric do you use to measure this?

 

But it's so much easier to pretend it doesn't exist and simply call people racist and supremacists and whatever other ist... If they should dare to address the pink elephant in the room.

Unless you have eyes in the back of your head and a gun that shoots around corners, NO GUN is going to stop someone coming up behind you by surprise and hit you with an object.
You will be knocked off balance, thrown to the ground, physically held down , disarmed.
Why can you only see YOUR movie version of it? Do you really think any such scum didn't suppose the victim had a gun?
A gun is not the 100% ultimate answer to self protection.
Just drop the advertising speil and look at all the ways it isn't true. You do nor become unassailable when you have a gun.

It might help you to look at how many times self defense using à gun was successful vs. The 450,000 gun related wounds and deaths last year.
ISTM you really don't want to stop your own carnage and prefer to add to it.

I am an old man. A properly proportioned walking stick can smack a person pretty hard. Kinda like a cue stick but not as easy to break.

 

In a foreign environment keep your wits about you. It is not about fear but respect for the people around you. If assaulted, you must have an immediate and dramatic response. The response should inflict pain and immobilize the opponent. More than one opponent? Hit one of them hard .Without pain a response has no effect. Your mind is your best weapon. Use it wisely.

Yes, a stick is better than nothing. I know of an older gently who walks a lot in a town about 30 miles from me. He carries a stout walking stick that appears to be a bit stouter than necessary for just walking. He tells people it’s in case a dog attacks him.

 

I used to keep a bullwhip handy in my saddlebag on my recumbent bicycle for that.

I kept pit bulls off of me on two different occasions over the years with it.

 

Actually it could be. Carrying a baseball bat in view is more of a deterrent to any attackers than a gun that cannot be seen

 

I do if that's the story itself. Are you saying the media shouldn't take any notice of who's doing what racially? Like "X% of black households poor" or somesuch?

 

I know one thing and that's that this case should be mercilessly prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. But I wouldn't hold my breath, Philadelphia is a notoriously liberal city and we have a liberal mayor who has basically let this city down in a hell hole fast. So yeah, Philly's going through some tough times in her local politics.
