The GOP calls itself the party of God and family values and this makes its conservative and neo-conservative members feel righteously superior to all other Americans. In fact, they believe themselves to be superior to all other humans. This is reflected in the messages posted here daily by the right-wingers. So, these words from the new Pope will really put a knot in their shorts.

The compassionate Christian conservatives have repeatedly accused anyone who is a non-Christian, especially atheists, of being evil, immoral, crooked, lazy, and just plain no good in general. Well, hold onto your hats folks, Pope Francis has decided atheists that do good will be redeemed, not just Catholics. In fact the Pope has included all humans as being able to be good people. What an epiphany!

The Pope making this statement about atheists will be viewed by most people of faith as appalling, but will be considered by atheists as simply more superstitious silliness.

Atheists know when they are good, responsible, and caring people, and understand when they are unethical, intolerant b@stards. The difference here, a large percentage of religious folks are unethical, intolerant b@stards most of the time, but are confident that an occasional prayer and a trip to church on Sunday makes them righteous. But it does not, in truth, these self-proclaimed righteous conservatives and neo-conservatives are nothing more than Bible thumping hypocrites.

I will take a good atheist who cares over a Sunday Christian any day. It is very easy to talk the talk. Walking the walk not so much

You're off your rocker. What you're saying isn't based on facts, it's based on your hyper-partisan propaganda.

Hi. Convservative non-christian here. Good to meet you.

    - - - Updated - - -

I have seen many arrogant and pushy atheists just on this board alone. They make it extremely difficult to talk to.

While at the same time pretending that their are no "good" christians. Either you forgot to clarify that leading to my misunderstanding or you're just duplicitous.

However it is a reasonable association to see the strength of the Republican party and the Bible belt

That is one MAJOR reason (hypocrisy) I steered clear of both organized religion and Republicans/Conservatives.

They have surely communicated the idea that they are THE party most deeply infused with the best or most proper moral values. No matter how you want to slice it, far too many HYPOCRITES (of the religious type) have FLOCKED to the "Right".

I want nothing else to do with that.

Who "hates" anyone? But for Pete's sake... Conservatives are NOT perfect, nor do they have some direct hotline to God or morality. (They are HUMAN beings.)

I did not say YOU said anything (per se); but I've witnessed MANY Conservatives carry themselves with an air of moral superiority; it was something that literally caused me to be averse to their ways, agendas and goals.

Be all that as it may, I want nothing to do with hypocrites.

    - - - Updated - - -

Exactly. The lip-service the Right offers up to 'seem' morally superior, is one of the worst things I have witnessed in my lifetime. :(

And far too many hypocrites have flocked to the left as well. Why not just admit you hate Christians?
