    Pretty confident the marine was charged with singing the anthem...you know...given the microphone being right in front of her face. I have never seen military personnel, charged with delivering the anthem, do such saluting.

    So you expect the president to salute and sing at the same time, but not the marine? Also, she appears to be singing with her mouth closed. You are grasping at straws.

    Where did I say the president should salute and sing?

    Singing with her mouth closed? The anthem was about to start. Hence why Melanie and the kid have their hands over their hearts. My lord...use some common sense.

    In short, we do not know why Trump does not have his hand over his heart in that picture. He might have been slow bringing it up or fast bringing it down. He may have been distracted.

    We absolutely know why Rapinoe does not put her hand over her heart. She has no respect for the US. Presumably because of Trump or maybe some other reason. In my opinion, if she does not respect who she is playing for, she should not be playing for them. As I said before, she is no better than any other mercenary. She is playing for fame and glory and probably monetary rewards at a later date.

    Because the President of the United States gives a damn. So much so, that he questions her patriotism. But contrasting the patriotism shown by one and the other, the soccer player wins hands down.

    If POTUS were to question the patriotism of a homeless person, he opens himself up to comparing his own with that homeless person. Just like he would open himself to the comparison if he quesitons any regular citizen's sexual preferences, moral rectitude, honesty, or empathy for fellow human beings. In all those cases and others, the current POTUS is more likely to lose compared with any average person every time.

    Lots of people don’t put their hand over their heart. My brother is former marine and as hardcore conservative as one can get and even he doesn’t put his hand over his heart. He stands at attention. Same as other former military guys that I know. Same as thousands of people I can see at sporting events I go to. Do you get upset at those people?

    She is not just a spectator. She is a participant where it is expected that she will show respect for the US. She is playing for the US. The National Anthem is played because of the athletes and for the athletes. Additionally, she makes it well known that she has no respect for the US. Too many have sacrificed for her not to show respect. She doesn't have to like everything the US has done. Most of us don't. However, on the whole, this is where we want to be.

    There is also the matter that she represents the US and the world is watching her.

    This has nothing to do with "importance". It has to do with patriotism. And this athlete whose patriotism is being questioned by the President, is infinitely more patriotic than the President.
