Pilgrim, there isn't a human being on the planet who can state with any credibility the total energy of every hurricane in the last century, never mind recorded human history, never mind the last 100k years.

    Didn't bother with the rest.

Can’t prove you wrong! Your assertion the absence of gravity would facilitate getting to work struck my funny bone. :)

we are also learning a lot more about Epigenetics, which ironically could bring back some of his thoughts on this

All scientific laws start out as hypothesis, what one thinks research and observation will prove. A theory is a hypothesis which is supported by evidence uncovered through research and observation, but which hasn't beeen complete proven tp be true, or which has holes which haven't been explained. A law is when something has been proven and explained completely. There are multiple holes in Darwin's theory that haven't been explaijned.

No! A hypothesis is a tentative explanation that can be falsified during the experimentation phase. A Theory is a completely different level. There is no such thing as "completely proven" in Science...."True" is a concept that belongs to the realm of Religion, not Science. The Theory of Evolution has the highest level of certainty that Science is capable of achieving.

Too many errors to correct. Read the post you are responding to if you want to start learning basic Scientific Epistemology.

Ok I am liking BOTH of these as I always respect a good well reasoned discussion and each has outlined thier stances nicely

Damn it is nice to see well reasoned polite disagreement after the quagmire that is many discussions on this forum

Play on I will watch with interest

OK, I was taught something a little bit different.

A theory is a collection of one or more hypotheses that explain how something works and have undergone serious testing and review. They can't be proven true, since humans don't have a way of determining all the possibilities (Newton never knew why he was wrong). So, one is always free to prove a theory to have serious limitations or to be false. Theories have value in terms of how well they help in further investigation.

A law is a statement of a relationship between variables. It doesn't explain why it works. One can test whether it "always" works, but laws don't explain the reason for it working that way. They just say that it does. If someone wants to explain HOW a law works, they would need to create a theory.

As for the theory of evolution, it's certainly true that we have a tiny representation of life forms that have lived on Earth (including first life through today). So, there absolutely WILL be lots of things scientists don't know. But, that doesn't downgrade or falsify the theory. Today, there is no competing theory or falsification.

Actually by definition, global warming would require that cooling events be fewer and fewer year to year, otherwise it isn't really a global warming event at all. The whole hoax has never once been held to account. For the past 30+ years we have been told of global warming, that has not in any way shape or form, panned out in reality. Instead the hoaxsters changed the goal posts and blamed 'climate change' and ignored the fact that warming was not happening on global scale...

The actual term is "climate change". That's the term that has been used by science from the start. Unfortunately, that term confused people about what is actually happening. So, someone ginned up the "global warming" term to indicate that it is warming and it is a global average - not Africa warming or whatever.

Climate change is happening due to the warming of Earth that we absolutely ARE measuring using numerous methods that confirm. The resultant changes in climate do NOT happen equally. So, some areas could get cooler, some get warmer, some get wetter, some get dryer, etc. It's a big Earth. It's not absolutely the same everywhere. It's NEVER been the same everywhere.

BS. Nobody ever denied climate changed. The 'climate change' argument came from the hoaxsters when it became apparent that their warming predictions weren't coming true, year after year. Instead they said that the 'warming' was in fact causing cooling or whatever else would keep attention off their lies. If the globe was warming, as a whole, it would be apparent on every continent, if it isn't, the globe is not warming. Not hard to figure out...

No, this is just factually in error. Science has referred to climate change. "Global warming" came later. It was created in an attempt by a scientists and someone from the press in trying to work out how to communicate to people that just didn't know what the heck was going on and did not understand the implications of the scientific terminology.

Models of warming have been highly accurate for decades, by the way. In fact, there is evidence that they have been overly conservative.

You're just wrong about how warming might be felt, too. Air composition is not equal around the globe. Continents have different characteristics, such as average distance to the nearest seas, prevailing winds, etc. There is no reason to believe all areas will warm in concert.

When waves of millions of refugees from global warming from the Middle East come crashing thru our borders seeking a place where they can avoid dying in the heat, it'll be too late to worry about the costs of reversing global warming.

Did you ever question what could possibly motivate a parent to allow their child to risk such dangers getting to the U.S. in the first place? There must be a strong reason they agreed to such a risky action.

You mean like the one who abandoned her husband, who had a good job, and her other kids, to come to America?

You know, the kid with her picture on the cover of Time.

But tell me, what would it take for you to give thousands of dollars to a drug smuggler and rapist to take your kid thousands of miles in a 140 degree trailer?

Maybe that's the problem with where they come from, and why it's so bad there.

    The people are the culture.

All you're doing is turning America into Guatemala.

If, as you say, "the people are the culture," then based on events happening under Trump's new immigration policies, Americans have devolved into something so inhumane, one used to have to travel to third world dictatorships to find similar behaviors. So, I guess, based on your point, America has devolved to that level regarding its commitment to human rights. That's not good news for America or the world.

I just noticed I left this post in an open window and forgot to send it.

Let me try to explain it as briefly as I can (because it's a bit complex) with an example from Physics. I'm sure you've heard that there Theoretical Physicists (TPs for short) and Experimenta Physicists (EPs for short)

TPs basically work with numbers. EPs do all the experiments. Einstein was a TP. You never saw Einstein doing an experiment. TPs are always trying to prove things. But they do it mathematically. Not in the "real world". A mathematical theory has enormous respect. Often times they are unanimously accepted by physicists. But it is not "settled science" until they are tested experimentally. Many times it's not possible to test them experimentally. For example, it was proven mathematically by Einstein that if you take two twins, and you put one on a spaceship that travels at a speed close to the speed of light, he will age much slower than the twin who remains on Earth. So the "travelling twin" would come back younger than their "non-travelling twin". There is no spaceship that can travel anywhere near the speed of light, so the experiment cannot be carried out. But no physicist in existence would doubt that the "Twin Paradox" is accurate.

One thing a TP will do is combine Laws mathematically. And they come up with Theories. Einstein's Relativity Theory is a combination of many such "laws". Every once in a while, a physicist will be able to combine other laws and reach a new conclusion by compressing them into a new idea expressed in a small "tidy" formula. These are new conclusions and it's how physics usually evolves. But these formulas are meaningless unless they are tested experimentally. They are "hypothesis". An experiment is devised, not to "prove" the hypothesis, but to attempt to falsify it. In other words, to try to prove it "false". If falsification fails, then the hypothesis increases in certainty. The results must be published in a peer-reviewed publication. And the hypothesis needs to be tested over and over. Once it has gained enough "confidence" the formula might become "law". But it's only a formula. That "law" is useless unless it can be used to form a Theory of something. In other words, it must explain something.

Einstein worked all his life to find a "Theory of Everything". He had laws that explained each of the forces of nature: magnetic, strong nuclear, weak nuclear and gravity. He managed to find a way to integrate the first three into his Theory. But was never able to incorporate gravity in his Theory. And he considered this his "biggest failure"

But Theories are never "complete". None. But this has nothing to do with them being incorrect.

    Sure.

Go try and cross into Canada, or any other country illegally, and write us a story about how racist they are.

And no, this is nothing new. Just Democrats refusing to enforce this nations immigration laws.

The concern will be every bit as merited then as it is now, seeing no one knows that can be done at any price.

As for immigration....Trump has done nothing different than Barrack Hussein Obama did. Only difference is, you thought Hussein would take you left. You hate Trump because he respects the Peoples right to own and maintain property. That is a sore spot with you Marxists. You think because you have four Marxist freshmen congresswomen you have a shot.....well forget it! The Spirit of "76 is on the rise!

You know nothing of what you speak. In Mexico, if you crossed illegally, (and without the behest of the Cartel) you stayed in a prison with a dirt floor and served at the pleasure of the prison guards. Does it titilate you when they come here and haul down Old Glory and hoist up the Mexican Flag? I bet it does and you are the culture that tolerates it!

We need to start addressing them as "Socialist Democrats". They drink from the Marxist trough now.

Keep in mind the most successful enforcer of our southern border ever, was Obama. But the question is, why is immigration such an issue now? In the year 2000, an annual average of 1 million illegals were crossing the border, but there was no "crisis" about it at the time. Today, it has risen from Obama's all time low to about 400,000+ per annum under Trump, who has manufactured a crisis issue about it for personal political gain. He has also slaughtered the system & managed to manifest the worst example of American inhumanity we've seen displayed publicly since the Jim Crow years. Many Americans believe that toughness & cruelty toward others is a measure of "greatness" historically. I'm not one of them. I believe the opposite is true. Trump's America is NOT my America.

No one knew a telephone was possible in 1865, but one man with vision made it happen. No one knew in 1915, that radio communication was possible, but one man with vision made it happen. No one knew in 1940, that TV was possible, but one man with a vision made it happen. No one knew in 1960, that Man could go to the Moon, but one President with vision started the process that made it happen. All major decisions that lead to historic turns in life happen without knowing the final outcome. They are done based on need coupled with faith in success. Global warming is no exception. Scientists have tried to give us a heads up, & some awareness of the anticipated climate changes & suggestions for reversing or at least softening the threat by acting now.

The thing I find most distressing, is climate change deniers fighting to prevent any action whatsoever, acting as if they know it's not real somehow, & steadfastly proclaiming their willingness to risk global disaster in the total conviction that they are right. If we listen to the scientists & act now, and it turns out global warming is a false alarm, then nothing is actually lost, for the effort made to fix the problem will itself result in a cleaner, more efficient, less destructive technology than we now have. Plus, it will create millions of new jobs for those who need them, along with $billions in new wealth. The world will be a far better, cleaner, nicer place for all humans to live in.

If we follow the direction of the climate change deniers & it turns out that global warming is real, we will pass on to our children & grandchildren a world where human life & possibly all life on Earth will be constantly challenged by rising temperatures & vastly more intense extremes in foul, life threatening weather. First, millions of humans currently living in equatorial zones will be forced to migrate into neighboring countries, where they will quickly become unwelcome. The immigration stresses we face today, will pale by comparison. Within a few generations, all the Earth's equatorial zones will become uninhabitable due to the extreme heat, and those coping with that reality then, will look back into history to our time today with great loathing. Our generation will be judged for its failure to act on the powerful evidence offered them by their own scientists. We will be scorned & ridiculed by our own descendants, for our stupidity & insensitivity.

Regardless of the accuracy of our current understanding of global warming, I vote to act on fixing it, and act NOW. It is the ONLY sensible course of action.
