I have not, because taking pictures of jurors and releasing them to the public is a crime, have you seen that happen

taking a picture of a court house is not a crime, even if jurors are inside it

Following the van to drop off and taking pictures of the van would count. It would be like hanging around outside the jury room and filming the door.

According to NPR news last night, the freelancer was a block away from the van. Is there a law that precludes any journalist from driving on the same street and in the same direction as the jurors?

I do not know if it would or not, but like I said, it was at the very least stupid, if not criminal

filming the door would be risky, as if a jury member did come out, then it would be a crime

He apparently ran a red light trying to keep up with them, and committed several other traffic and moving violations in an attempt to keep pace.
He's following this group of people and surveilling them. That's a stalking charge too boot.

Hanging around outside the deliberation room if you're not the door guard is a crime fella. You're not listening.
Just like following the jury van to drop off is a crime.

Or he just ran a red light like so many do each day. It isn't sure if he was indeed following the van or not.

He admitted he was following the van, to the police, and said he was doing so according to the instructions of his MSNBC producer, Irene Byon. This isn't a mystery.

First off, that's not what MSNBC said. They gave a very carefully-parsed and legalistic statement to try to give the appearance of innocence without outright denying what their man on the ground told the police:
See, there's no denial there that their guy was actually following the jury van, just that he didn't intend to contact them during deliberations (which, of course, this wasn't, as they had already wrapped up their deliberations for the day). Then there's the claim that he never intended to photograph them, which may or may not be true, but there are plenty of ways to dox jurors without taking their photograph. He could have just intended to follow them to their privately-owned vehicles and recorded their license plates so that they could be tracked down later and contacted by other MSNBC reporters. See how that works?

I'm fine with skepticism of the police, but I'm curious how you think this might work: the judge got the name of Irene Byon, an MSNBC producer in New York, from the police. The police say they got it from Morrison, which certainly seems like the Occam's razor explanation. Is your theory that the police maybe made up the whole story? Or that they did indeed find Morrison tailing the van, but they invented the part of his statement about it being under the orders of Irene Byon? In that case, did they just pluck Irene's name from thin air and happen to get insanely lucky that she was indeed a a real person and an actual MSNBC producer? Which part(s) of the police's story do you think might be fictional here?

His boss says he was indeed following the van. His boss just says he wasn't photographing them, he admits they were being followed.

Over the line. Mark it zero. World of pain.

That's what I think he was up to, getting license plates or some other information in order to identify them, and dox them if they voted the wrong way.

As an aside, although I find the number of lefty Baghdad Bob's in this thread fairly hilarious, I'm disappointed that they will stick to fairly terrible talking points no matter how dumb it makes them sound. That's why we can't have nice things, like honest political discussions. They are not here for that.

How is it questionable when the reporter told the officer he was instructed by his manager at NBC to follow the juror bus and photograph them?
